>Apple Music subscriber gain below expectation
>Apple contemplating shutting down Beats 1 Radio, which is bleeding money and has hardly any listener
If it didn't require a subscription then I would listen to it. There's no way in hell I'm paying to listen to the fucking radio!
Problem is Google snatched everyone up by adding YouTube Red to the Play Music.
That and normies just use spotify anyways. This makes hardly any sense though, why would you choose anything but Apple music unless you are a hardcore Google user?

Beats 1 doesn't require a subscription to listen to it, but it's not going to pay for itself.
>Pressure is rising on Apple, Google and other technology companies to allow law enforcement and intelligence agencies access to encrypted phones and other devices.
>In the wake of the coordinated terrorist attacks on Paris, CIA Director John Brennan, Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.) and other critics are amplifying their arguments against Silicon Valley.
>The rise of commercial encryption technology, they say, risks shielding terrorists from surveillance — raising the bar for law enforcement to thwart future attacks.
“We in many respects have gone blind as a result of the commercialization and the selling of devices that cannot be accessed either by the manufacturer or, more importantly, by us in law enforcement, even equipped with the search warrants and judicial authority,” New York City Police Commissioner William Bratton said Sunday on “Face the Nation.”
>Some lawmakers have revived calls for congressionally mandated access to devices.
>“In the Senate Armed Services, we’re going to have hearings on it and we’re going to have legislation,” Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.), who chairs the committee, told reporters on Tuesday, calling the status quo “unacceptable.”
>The terrorists who more than 120 people in Paris last Friday were able to plan their strikes under the noses of French and Belgian authorities. Senior European counterterrorism officials, speaking anonymously, told The New York Times that they believed the attackers used some form of encrypted device to communicate.
>Brennan called the attacks a “wake-up call,” while Feinstein, a member of the Senate Intelligence Committee who represents Silicon Valley, said in an interview Monday with MSNBC that it’s a “big problem” if tech firms “create a product that allows evil monsters to communicate in this way.”
You support this, right /g/? I mean, you're not a terrorist are you?
Paris attackers used PlayStation 4 to communicate.
Leave our phones alone.

You're attacking a problem from the wrong angle anon.
Being able to spy on some users to "Prevent" some terrorism is just moronic, you need to educate your kids to know what's better, so they grow up wronly, then offer a solution to the parties involved, and if that doesn't work then you go to their place and erradicate them, you assume the casualties and kills on your side but you erased the problem from its root.
The thing is that goverment want more control over people putting "terrorism"...

>The thing is that goverment want more control over people putting "terrorism" as an excuse. They just want more control at all costs.
This. The government never lets a good tragedy go to waste when it comes to grabbing power.

I just recently got offered to do a masters or phd in computer science completely paid for by the company I work at provided I continue to work for them two years after graduation.
I didn't want to do grad school but it's two years and paid for me so I'm going to do it. Now my question is choosing an area. I went to look at some options and I can't fucking choose.
Here are the options for one particular program:
Artificial Intelligence and Databases
Programming Languages and Software Engineering
Systems and Networks

There are a handful of reasons to say no and I'll cover them really briefly. If one point is more interesting than another, I can elaborate if I have time:
- "Professional PhD" programs are something I only hear about from Europeans. European PhD programs are seen with a *deep* negative connotation compared to American PhD programs. Without getting into it (unless you're curious), European doctoral programs are much shorter (and undergrad curricula are shorter than the corresponding undergrad curricula as well). I've talked to professors and heads...

If we had to remake Internet from scratch, how would we future proof it in regards to security, encryption, scalability, etc? Goal is to produce Internet that scales smoothly, works okay with huge bandwidth and has built in protection against spying, even from the government. Yes, I know it won't be implemented in the US.
>IPv6 only
>optimising software for terabit transfer rates
>mandatory unbreakable encryption for all connections
There has to be some privacyfags...

make it a decentralized system.
The majority of internet traffic is funneled through the backbone. A decentralized system would have no backbone at all.
>>51404936
Good luck decentralizing the underwater cables without exploding costs
>inb4: satellites
yeah no
>>51404936
I was under the impression that the Internet is already pretty decentralised. Are you referring to high bandwidth fiber connections that are owned by private companies? I also don't see what positive effects would it have, it's definitely better for them to be in private hands than the government.
How much did you think Microsoft paid him to shill against SteamOS?

They don't need to pay him.
Steam OS runs on ubanto and debian.
So drivers are always outdated and slow out of the box.

Will we get to a point where we have permanent 64 or 128gb ramdisks that just save and load from a hdd during shutdown?
Seems very doable, so why don't high end comps do that?
Hi I'm looking to improve my system
Current system specs
Motherboard: asus M5A78L-M/USB3
GPU: Nvidia GTX 970
CPU: AMD FX -4170
RAM: Patriot 8 Gig
I'm currently thinking of upgrading the processor to a FX 8320 or 8350 and adding another 8 gig of Ram.
Or should I upgrade my motherboard and get a different processor or even switch to intel.
Any advice or suggestions appreciated appreciated
>>51404533
If you play video games you are going to be bottlenecked as fuck by anything FX series related with that video card. So yeah, new CPU/mobo and add an SSD. You don't need more RAM until you do those other things.
8370e if you dont feel like spending 400+ to get a decent swap to the next generation. (or you could look second hand for an LGA 1150 combo).
Honestly, that's a pretty poor motherboard to be slapping in an AM3+ 8-core.
If you can afford it go LGA 1151 + 6600k/6700k or grab a Xeon 1231 + LGA 1150. (Down side is you'll need another mobo swap for next gen but it is cheaper.
>>51404533
An 8350 and more RAM is a pretty sensible upgrade. Depending on what you're doing with your machine, or what games you're playing you should get a decent bump in the speed.
I wouldn't spend the money on a new motherboard until socket AM4 is out or until Intel's latest socket has dropped in price a bit.
Is this a joke?

why would it be a joke?

No.

You think it would be worse off with SL though?
>>51404340
Most likely. I also have an old macmini with 512MB ram and the only hope it becomes usable I think is to install some Linux on it, but I'm too lazy to bother doing it.
You're better off buying an Intel compute stick and plugging it in a TV than upgrading such old hardware. An Intel stick is about 150$ and has better specs than those old PCs.
I'm an indian fag and here the graphic card prices are way too overpriced. Last month i bought a gtx 960 4GB and now im kinda regretting it after looking at how bad it performs. Should i sell it and get a 970?
How to improve the card's performance?
I used the 770 in place of he 960 in benchmarks because anandtech didn't review it, but take a look at the second link and you can see that the 770 is slightly better than the 960, and in the first link I have the 970 FTW vs a 770. You can see the performance improvements.
http://anandtech.com/bench/product/1037?vs=1354
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s8_bZMbJ9vM
The 960 is a high-value performance card.
If you want more performance you need to stop being poor, or get used to only running things at 60fps.
>>51404385
it doesnt run recent games @60fps 1080p. its not too good for 1080p
