What languages do you think need to die because they're being propagated by retards, hipsters, and SJW's?
Here are some good choices:

What's a good IDE to learn FORTRAN with?
I wonder if C/AL falls under this category...

Will this shit ever die off?
Hello /g/
I'm building a pc for the first time since xp was new. was hoping that you could tell me if these specs were good enough to run fallout 4 on ultra. Pic related, the case I'm using.

Just wait for Pascal. I know people always say to wait but this time it should actually be worth it.

Nvidia's next line of cards. The 900 series is a bust. Plus there's supposedly some pretty big performance gains. Even if they turn out to be shit the prices for the 980 Ti might be lower by then.
My shitty Samsung monitor that I was using as a secondary screen just broke. Should I buy a second Asus VG248Q to replace it with, or should I save up a few hundred bucks more and get either an Asus ROG PG279Q, or an Acer XB270HU? Currently I only have a GTX 680 but I'm probably going to replace it next year with a 980 Ti or whatever comes after, and I'd really like an IPS panel for my art and animation projects.
If I go with a 1440p IPS panel, the Acer looks like it's a better value, but I do like Asus from my experience with their monitors and mobos,...

And before anyone asks, the Samsung monitor is beyond fixing. I replaced all the caps with good quality Japanese ones 2 years ago the first time it broke, but this time the logic board is what's dead and there's nothing I can do for it.
Might as well ask here, what's a decent monitor for €150 or less?
I've been looking at the Asus VX239H-W, 23" IPS, it's 155 eurobucks
Is it good or are there better options for the money (or less money)?

I would def save up and buy a decent G-Sync monitor. I just got me the BenQ 1440p 144hz Freesync monitor and it is amazing. Be careful though because I think some G-Sync monitors only work between certain Hz. Same goes for Freesync. Mine is between 40 ~ 144hz.
What's your honest opinion of women in STEM, /g/entlemen? Any stories?
I'm first year software development, and I've already seen majority of the girls in there drop the course.

The only people who dropped out of the Intro to C++ class I'm finishing up now were female.

The people at college aren't much different than high school.
This is going to be a quality thread, I can tell.
Newbie at Ubuntu here.
Can someone tell me the survival applications for Ubuntu, as preferably the sudo commands to install them. Also is chromium better then firefox for ubuntu, because firefox is slow and unresponsive.
>>51425851
Are you too retarded to use Google to look up what's in the repository?
>>51425851
>sudo commands to install them
Do yourself a favor and sudo apt-get install synaptic
Best frontend for apt.
Survival applications depend on what you are doing.
And chromium is never better. It may be slightly faster but it's an unreliable pile of shit.
>>51425851
install synaptic and gdebi
remove amazon app and online search
install unity tweak tool
>firefox
>chromium
shitty memes senpai
install opera/vivaldi
Best C++ compiler/IDE?
I like it lightweight.
(Include reason)
You should try clion
I'm not going to read this thread again so don't worry about replying. If that suggestion isn't enough just try googling a bit. lol.
Bloodshed. No bloat

Also my choice for C.
Why is it that Nvidia is the only company to make a wifi-direct controller? If they really are the next best thing to wired shouldn't there be some of competitive device out by now?
Because it's fucking worthless.
>wifi
Is it ad-hoc or do I need to go through my wireless router? Why not just bluetooth directly to the device like we've been doing for years. Do bluetooth controllers have significant latency.
Why would you even bother talking about shit like this.
What is the best linux distro for someone, who wants a very minimalistic but good looking OS?
I will use it mainly to develop Websites, Web Applications and Java/C++ projects.
OSX
OSX
arch
Does /g/ like my new gaming laptop? Got it for a steal at $700 today

Give it back jamal
Man, that looks like a real piece of shit
What the fuck? You can't purchase Adobe software anymore, you only can "rent" it? When the fuck did they make this change? I was looking into upgrading from CS4 and checked out their side and there is no buying option?
Are you fucking kidding me?
There is only butt now. Welcome to the future.
And the joke is that you can pirate it without issues
Let's say there are backdoors in our cpus. How would one go about detecting them?
>>51425275
Take them out of the socket and inspect the pin side
>>51425275
You probably couldn't until activated.
Very carefully.
Why is it called STEM when science degrees don't actually get you a job?
>>51425224
They do though, you just need more than a bachelors to become strong in it. And what does stem have to do with jobs?
Because it stands for "Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics"
>>51425233
>They do though
They don't. You'll be lucky to get a temporary position and probably won't have a tenure until you're like 40-50.
Will humanity be able to shrink microprocessors below 12-9nm or we are condemned to reach the max computational limit in 6 years?
yes, of course
>>51425079
>Will humanity be able to shrink microprocessors below 12-9nm
Yes.
> or we are condemned to reach the max computational limit in 6 years?
There is no such thing, and area scaling is not the only way to improve performance.
>>51425079
Die shrinking is so last decade.
We die stacking and power efficiency now.
