I predict an xfree86 revival
Aloha, /g/. I just put a system together with an i3 4370, and it's idling between 60 and 67 C with the stock cooler and arctic silver 5. Is that normal? When I google the issue all I can find is people talking about getting similar temps while running Prime 95, nobody seems to talk about idle temps.
Idle should be around 45-55C
>>51658956
that's high. Are you sure the cooler is properly attached?
What are the temps while under load?
>>51658956
That's super high for idle temps, even with a shitty stock cooler. Is the cpu fan running?
Take the cooler off, clean all the thermal paste off it and the cpu, and reinstall it.
Apparently my phone, which I bought last Christmas, is no longer receiving updates from my carrier, leaving me stuck at android 4.4.4. Is it worth the time/effort/possible repercussions involved with installing a custom firmware (I was thinking of putting on CyanogenMod)?

>android
Enjoy your botnet.
>>51658950
what else is there?
Holy moley a year and its outdated? Is this the case with all smartphone? I'm assuming a phone is like 200 so you have to pay 200 every year? Shit
>computers in 2015 are barely faster than computers from 2007
what the fuck happened? computers now should be like 100 times faster man
>>51658842
Consoles happened.
>falling for the Moore's law meme
Bullshit they are barely faster. You're probably just comparing cpu clock speeds and ignoring things like architecture changes.
Hi /g/
I decided to put some data into a rar archive with a 100 character long password ( both letters numbers and special symbols )
Thing is I forgot that password so I wondered how long it'd take to recover it by brute force.

Hello reddit!
why has /g/ become so shit since moot left.
Its pretty comfy to be honest senpai desu
>>51658579
>literally posting reddit memes and making /g/ shittier while asking why it is shit
>>51658579
Four mods and a handful of janitors left.
Greetings, /g/.
I am updating the screen guide, and it is a bit large, so I have divided it into three sections.
The 1080p section
-Two screens survive the purge
-A lot less 1080p screens than before: 12 screens to 8
-No more TN options
-No more 1200p options, either
-Prices went down tremendously: From $100-$400, to $100-$200
1/3
1440p section
-A-panel section deleted, since only 1 unit is still logically priced
-Overall choice pool slightly smaller: 11 units total to 9 units total. Normal quality screen choices better though: 6 units to 8.
-Included a 32" model. Y/N?
-Prices for 1440p have fallen dramatically: $500-$2500 range, to $250-$500 range.
4K section
-huge number of new options: Formerly only 4 units, now 11
-Added two TN options as the cheapest 4K alternatives. Y/N?
-Added a 40" unit. Y/N?
-Do I have too many options for 4K?

>>51658386
>>51658427
So that is the standard screens update. I am filling up the remaining missing data now.
Are there any screens that should be removed? Any screens that should be added?
Your feedback is appreciated.
What kind of naming schemes do you /g/entooman use for your devices?

Planets and locations from Star Fox games. I name my drives after the Sector _ levels.
I'm a huge faggot desu senpai
touhou girls, those machines that I named at any rate.
Alright /g/ I'm curious as fuck on how to start chrome along with a URL with C. Calling batch files are not allowed and can't get into the registry.
>>51658258
So far I can start chrome with just a new tab.
>>51658258
>main returns int, not void
You go back to Java, Habib, where you came from.
>>51658258
what kind of system lets you run arbitrary programs but not let you run batch files
or are you just doing this for the fuck of it

what are you even going on about

hello I recently moved into a room mate situation and my room mate controls the internet connection. due to this I am using a power line adapter from the living room to my bed room which is easily 50+ feet away so I can't use any cables. I am getting 3.9 megabyte second downloads which doesn't cut it because I download about 100 gigs a day.
The router we are using is a Linksys EA3500 N300 ...
if I buy a faster router will the power line adapter be affected by that and I will get much higher speeds? What type of router should I aim for or is there a better...

Your room mate controls the connection in which sense?
>I am getting 3.9 megabyte second downloads which doesn't cut it because I download about 100 gigs a day.
Powerline adapter is the limiting factor, you could have a fiber line hooked up to the PL, it wont increase your speed... also 100 GB/day?? WTF
>>51658187
well my room mate is a 60 year old woman but she pays for internet. despite the fact I am an IT professional she is okay with upgrading any of the products to make things better. I can't put the modem in my room because there are phone connections on it she uses for her home phone. Maybe there is other options available and I can put the modem in my room and allow her to use the power line adapter (she plays facebook games whereas I usenet a LOT of data daily my previous cap was 2 TB a month and I would go over...

there is no information on google about how a router affects a power line network this is ridiculous. you were the only person to answer it so once again thanks ...
it feels that the router is a little slow though based on some speedtests I just ran and what is being advertised at the ISP
So the main contenders of this match are
GNU screen and Tmux?
Which should be learned rather than the other and for what reasons?
>>51658105
Go with Tmux since it'll be the thing to replace screen.
want to say tmux but I've literally never used screen (or known anyone who has)
Screen is deprecated shit.
https://raw.githubusercontent.com/wd0/configs/master/tmux/.tmux.conf
Save in your home folder.$ tmux
^ is control
^j is the prefix for a tmux command
^j-c make a new window
^j n switch between windows
^j | split a window into panes
^j j jump between panes
^j ^j also jump between panes
^j x close shit
^j , rename a window
^j d detach from tmux session
$ tmux attach # reconnect to detached tmux session
You can close a terminal without...

I have an old beat to shit XP machine, what should I do with it?
pic unrelated
>>51657967
give it to someone in need, 'tis the season...

It would be a crime to give this to someone anon.

whatever you want family, old XP-era systems are good as simple servers, testbeds, legacy software boxes, pretty much anything they were capable of doing when they came out, get creative
hell, grab a cheap xyz domain and try hosting your own website, I just started running one off of an entry-level 650 MHz SPARC server and its entertaining as fuck
old shit in general is a great learning tool

nah, even the very earliest of XP boxes...
