So with BCLK overclock now being confirmed possible on non-k Skylake, should I change my purchase? Should I just buy a i5 6500 + Asus/Asrock z170 mobo?
The i5 6600k is stupidly expensive in my country, so this will save a lot of money in the long run.

Finally caved last year an purchased a $2500 i7 15" rMPB for work applications because 'muh software stability', first Mac I've ever owned; and the last I will ever own.
1.1 years down the line, the battery management is fucked so it won't hold a charge and is a brick unless permanently connected to the PSU, take it in to the 'genius' bar, it's already out of warranty (lol murrica consumer 'rights').
To sort the battery management they also have to replace the battery, trackpad, keyboard...

So I'm looking for a portable, light and cheap laptop with long ass battery life for uni. I would use it for notetaking and light browsing. Would a chromebook be a viable option? I have a good desktop computer and a MemePad X200s but its battery is shit (1 year old) and it's bulky as fuck and I'd like something lighter with a good battery life. I don't care about the "botnet"
Pic related.
>>51919441
Get a chrome book
Install Gentoo
Don't fall for the "you need nothing more" meme and buy a crippled laptop running a crippled OS. Sure, you could install real GNU/Linux and wipe chromeOS, but you might accidentally reset it on boot - or break something - or find some proprietary program you need for school like WPS office won't run on ARM - and find that the web-app equivalent is godawful, only works online, and has poor support for the format you're required to use.
Buy a midrange winderps laptop. 6-8 hours of battery life is pretty easy to find. Just don't be an autist...

I feel that /g/ needs more technology related threads, so I thought that over winter break (4 weeks), I would learn you a new algorithm. Hopefully this inspires more discussion of algorithms and maybe an algorithm general.
Week 0 - Huffman Trees
Huffman Trees are a compression algorithm in which you map a block of memory to a string of bits.
For example, let's say that we are trying to compress a message:attackatonce
First, we would analyze the string, to see the frequency of the letters:Comment too long. Click here to view the full text.

I don't like technology, I like shitposting. Go away.
Problem of the week:
easy:Create a huffman tree for the following passage (You may leave out punctiuation marks and is not caps-sensitive).
Gomenasai, my name is Ken-Sama.
I’m a 27 year old American Otaku (Anime fan for you gaijins). I draw Anime and Manga on my tablet, and spend my days perfecting my art and playing superior Japanese games. (Disgaea, Final Fantasy, Persona series)
I train with my Katana every day, this superior weapon can cut clean through steel because it is folded over a thousand times, and is vastly superior to any other weapon on earth. I earned my sword license two years ago, and I have been getting better every day.
I speak Japanese fluently, both Kanji and the Osaka dialect, and I write fluently as well. I know everything about Japanese history and their bushido code, which I follow 100%
When I get my Japanese visa, I am moving to Tokyo to attend a prestigious High School to learn more about their magnificent culture. I hope I can become an animator for Studio Ghibli or a game designer!
I own several kimonos, which I wear around town. I want to get used to wearing them before I move to Japan, so I can fit in easier. I bow to my elders and seniors and speak Japanese as often as I can, but rarely does anyone manage to respond.
Wish me luck in Japan!
You may use a frequency analyzer such as http://www.counton.org/explorer/codebreaking/frequency-analysis.php
normal:Compress the following bitstream:
001000010000011000100000101000001001000000000110000111
hard:Create a program that will take a string, and create a huffman tree. Print out the bit combos for each char.
HAPPY HOLIDAYS!

Intended for users of all levels, including absolute beginners.
There are three ways to try Linux, you can:
1) Install a Linux OS on a VM (Virtual Machine/VirtualBox) for "safety purposes"
2) Use the Live ISO directly without installing anything, that way, you can get a "full Linux experience".
3) Go balls deep and overwrite everything with Linux (not recommended)
If you are serious about switching to Linux and if you have Windows...
