CPU thread. How much of this stuff do you CompSci folks learn in school? Seems interesting.
Networking/Security crew checking in, so obviously this isn't a part of my mainstay; but it sure is neat.
What would you CompSci folks recommend as far as books and such go?

CPUs are rather electrical engineering. Comsci students only care learn about programming and shit.
>>51936375
Well that's not true. There is barely any programming courses in CompSci, some don't have any.
Convince me to learn C++ over C# now that I have a solid understanding of C.
Go.
no. heres what you do
>your desktop. meet hammer
>your body. meet cold, dark corner.
>curl up in fetal position and wait until you starve

C++ compiles to binary. C# compiles to .NET bytecode and requires Mono on non-windows. C++ is like bloated C. C# is like Java with no compatibility.
I say go with C++
C# is just fine anon, don't listen to the losers stuck in the past

>no mini ITX thread
Let's fix that. What does /g/ think of mini ITX builds? Is anyone here using one or working on one right now?
My machine is using an ITX board at the moment, but I'm still using my old POS Cooler Master Storm Scout case. I'm thinking of switching to one of these Lian Li beauties so I can travel with my rig. Does /g/ recommend it?
>meme-ITX
>>51933969
Yeah, so what? I've been wanting an ITX rig for lan parties and shit. Plus, they look cool as fuck.
If I wanted a toy I'd buy a console.
>You were part of the last generation which didn't grow up with smartphones
How does this make you feel /g/? Do you think having a smartphone when you were younger would've made your life easier?
I don't see how having a portable tracking device with me as a 10 year old would've made my life any easier.
I think it would have been even worse. Having Internet on my home already ruined my life, can't imagine having Internet on the go as a kid.
>>51929277
Easier for your parents
who /opus/ here? I just converted my whole library to vbr 96kbps Opus, it saves so much space with no quality loss.
Did you convert from flac?
>>51927896
yes mostly flac
I'll stick with qaac q127
No smart phone thread?
Smart phone thread.
I have three phones I'm considering.
>Moto X Play/Pure
>Moto X Pure/Droid 2
>Nexus 6P
What one do I go for
$50 off of nexus 6p for holiday season,
Does anyone know if it is easy to get Verizon with this phone if I ordered it unlocked?
What would be the cheapest way for me to get it if I am about to switch to Verizon from sprint?
>>51926048
I am about to make that same decision.
Probably going with 6p
How much software and media have you pirated? What are your morals on the matter?
Have you ever stolen hardware?
Have you stolen from Intel, nVidia and AMD by unlocking cards/CPUs?
>How much
99.9% of it since I bought my last game, DOOM on floppy.
>Hardware
No.
>Unlocking = stealing
I guess the other 5 curiously written threads weren't enough from /b/, I'm guessing.
>How much software and media have you pirated? What are your morals on the matter?
literally everything ever. I don't give a fuck about morals, it's a victimless crime. you cannot convince me otherwise.
>Have you ever stolen hardware?
No, because that is a crime that would actually affect people. Im stealing an actual item that someone owns.
>Have you stolen from Intel, nVidia and AMD by unlocking cards/CPUs?
le jew meme xDDD
>>51924652
You're literally stealing profit the owner of the material would of otherwise made. How is that not victimless?
Will the technology field ever be freed from shills and consumerism?
>falling for the shills and consumerism meme
>implying competition is an inherently good value
>implying a company wholly supplying all the demands of the market to the amount the market needs and the amount of business the market can support the industry to mutual satisfaction is a bad thing
It's very unlikely, and competition does generally exert a net positive influence, but nothing is inherently wrong with a "monopoly" in an environment where all political, forceful, barriers to entry have been removed.
If enough people are...

no, faggot
My wife is pregnant. What python audiobooks should I get so that my wife's unborn son can start learning python in the womb?
Can't the little faggot learn C++ instead? Does he already have downs syndrome or something autistic?
>>51943026
I'm not sure if he's ready for C++ yet. Python is what my wife's obgyn recommended.
it's like you want him to be retarded

What were they thinking?
They had a ton of success with their iMac and wanted the iBook to resemble it.

they appear to have been right
Posting from my clam. 576mb 64gb SSD

Can you help me, please?

it literally says what you have to do

Install gentoo
So /g/,
what is the best mobile computer one can buy?
I am interested at those stone cast 5 kg setups that will never overheat and will feel confi compiling 5gb of code while playing gta5 on max settings.
what is the best new?
but to make things harder what is the best for the money from the aftermarket, lets say @ US$500, as the selection pool is huge.
Do you have an opinion on that issue /g/?
pic unrelated I guess
>>51942662
Cyka
My opinion is that desktop replacements are a really bad compromise. You can have a powerful desktop for serious work and a thin, light laptop for use on the go for similar money to the cost of buying a high-end desktop replacement.
There are specific situations in which they make sense (on-location pro video production, for example) but they're few and far between and I think it's really worth considering if your application really demands something that's barely mobile.
>>51942900
Workstation laptops make sense in all scenarios where you have hardware requirements which necessitate a workstation, but mobility requirements that rule out a desktop. In such a situation there isn't a compromise to be made, as a desktop/ultrabook combo would not solve the issue. Examples include civil engineering/architecture, CAD work/rendering, and as you stated video editing.
OP, you're retarded and you won't find a new desktop replacement for $500. Maybe if you go on ebay and buy a used...

What's wrong with proprietary software? I don't get it. Unless you live in the woods, almost everything you use in real life is proprietary, it is unavoidable. Someone please explain.
What other people do with their computers is not my responsibility. Proprietary software affects my freedom whenever I choose to install it onto my computers.
>>51942115
Nothing is wrong. Just /g/ worshiping commies.
>>51942115
because i want to know what kind of shit they're putting into my computer
Hey /g/, is 93 degrees C an okay temperature for my CPU? I'm getting kinda worried... It's an rMBP..
>>51942056
it is not an ok temperature for your CPU.
>>51942056
No.
Your shit is fucked.
Are you running anything on it right now, or is that idle?
Just hold it a few inches above your desk and drop it :^)
