I'll be receiving $850 to build someone else a computer.
Is there any moral ambiguity in using some of that money to upgrade components in my personal computer, and passing along my used components into the new build?

Given Intel and AMD's focus on APUs, does /g/ think they will ever catch up with the budget GPU market?
They have before on several occasions, but the discrete GPU market keeps advancing to keep pace. An APU comes around that out performs a Radedon 6570 and before you know it the 6570 is entirely irrelevant.
>>51967490
They have caught up with sub $80 low end GPU already.
Its only a matter of time before they catch up to sub $100 GPU sector.
>>51967490
They have already.
Both intel HD 5000 and AMD's high end APU's can do the exact same thing as low and mid-low tier GPU's.
Hey /g/ I forgot to bring my PC adapter with me when going home over christmas and I am currently using a substitute that doesn't have the same voltage nor the same current as my usual adapter. The original one has 19 V and 9.5 A totalling 180.5W and the one I am currently using has 20 V but only 4.5 A which brings it to roughly half the power. I took out the battery from the PC so that the adapter both has to charge the battery as well as supply the PC with power. My question is if this can in some way harm my PC since the voltage is 1 Volt to high. I have a "MSI GT70 0NC".
>>51967278
doesn't have to both power the PC and charge the battery*
>>51967278
DC inputs almost always have a regulator behind them, so it will have a tolerance of around 15%.
20V will be fine and dont worry about the wattage unless you run benchmarks or some shit

Makes sense. Thanks!

Well since we never have them, and most threads devolve into memes and assholery, I thought we could do with a /friendly hacking thread/.
So ask away.
I am no expert myself so I though I would just kick things off with the basic standard recommendations of starting with:

and
http://nostarch.com/pentesting
and then working on machines from:
www.vulnhub.com
Even just reading walk-throughs for machines on Vulnhub that are beyond your ability while also doing the steps in the walk-through...

If you don't want shitposting, never use the word hacking to refer to anything other than tinkering with something.
Where the fuck is it? It's still due to come out this month.
Or did it get delayed?
I do love how AMD like to do silly things like put two gpu chips on a single board
and then it appears at the top of the benchmarks for a long time
theres no competition from nvidia so AMD doesn't need to release it

It is come to my attention there's been so hardcore anti-linux shilling on here. I have to ask you, what do you gain by doing so? Money? Discounts of Microsoft products? Tell me.

There's even more Linux shilling on /g/. What do you gain by it?

Nothing, I wouldn't mind if most of it was real concerns, half the time it's uninformed opinions from people who still think linux is stuck in perpetual 1994

Do they just open up uTorrent, add the latest blockbusters to their downloads and check for any (INSERT TROLLS COUNTRY HERE) and copy paste their IP to an angry email to the ISP demanding your name?
Or do ISPs feed them information on any users using Bitorrent protocol?

Yes, also throw in a few automation scripts. That's why you use a vpn with no logs which servers are based in a country where nobody gives a fuck.

Only the ISPs who are in the back pocked of the entertainment industry (every big ISP in the USA).
Feels good to be europoor in a country where the ISP and judges says fuck off.
Yes, that's essentially it. Specifically they usually use a modified version of Shareaza because that normally supports multiple protocols and is open-source so it's easy for them to add logging.
A VPN that didn't care about nastygrams would solve that. An anonymous network would also work, with considerably more overhead (at present), although that is more sustainable in the long-term.
A few of the shit ones just connect to Bittorrent trackers with the infohashes they're after to scrape peer IP addresses, and that's it. There are numerous...
