I made the switch
Not easy. Nothing worked.
Got it working. Installed gnome... Looks shit. How do i make arch pretty /g
How is Arch Linux so light on RAM with a DE like Cinnamon? Only 770MiB and running Steam and Firefox. I've switched from Windows 10, and that bloated piece of spyware would hover around 2700MiB at idle.
Is all that RAM usage in Windows just for their botnet?
RAM usage on arch is low because it's usually a minimal installation.
An "out of the box distro" installation usually tries to be usable for the majority of population, so it starts up software that you on your arch installation will never use so it's not even installed.
stuff like avahi, firewalld (which are useless on a desktop, but not having them on a laptop would be fucking annoying) cups server to name a few.
Windows is bloated.
If you ever wondered why Vista was trashed by the average consumer is because fresh installation of...

Mine is 1920x1080 on a split monitor display for each monitor
>It's unfortunate that Debian is named after Debra and Ian, because having the project named after a white supremacist, who used his ex-wifes name as an trophy. Being that the current year is almost 2016 and is 20 years after Debian started, we should look to the future and not the past. We shouldn't tolerate the project being named after a person who uses the N word, or marginalizes women who've been sexually assaulted. Instead I think we ought to rename the project "Euphemia", which means "good speech" and represents...

Botnet aside, who makes the best chinkphone? Oppo? Meizu? Xiaomi? Huawei?
I'm finding the Redmi Note 2 and Mi4C tempting due to the specs for the price and their inclusion of an IR blaster, something I really miss from my old LG.
What do you goys have, and what of it would you recommend?
Is it true SSD's have a shit life expectancy?
So I grabbed a DS4 today to use with my PC Gaymen and I thought I was going to have to compromise when it came to the on-screen button icons since the controller is pretty much emulating an XBOne controller.
I loaded up Shovel Knight, though, and I was surprised to see the PS icons being used.
Now, is this on a game by game basis, or is the game seeing the DS4 as a DS4? I'm confused. This used to not happen with my DS3.
>implying that flimsy POS is better than the DS4
Now, I'll give you that it's a lot less of a pain to get it working (as in, you don't have to install another program, even then it takes seconds), but that hassle is still worth it being that the DS4 is a better overall controller (I'm looking at you, Dpad).
> Launched in 2011
> Still no need to upgrade
> What is happening to Intel?
> i7 6700k get?
Because AMD is behind so Intel is free to release new cpus with minor gains.
No reason to go to a 6700k over a 2500k unless you have a good reason, and gaming isn't a good enough reason.
>tfw i5 2410m since 2011
>all I do is browse 4chan and twitter with either itunes or spotify open
won't have to upgrade until my laptop dies
and this is the last straw im installing pale moon fuck this dwanky buikak

Will converting my password to sha512 before using it make it more secure?
I mean, say I'm signing up for gaymeninhats.com and it wants a password, instead of putting
which is the SHA512 hash of "password1". Is that more secure?
>deepin is a Linux distribution committed to providing an elegant, user-friendly, safe and stable operating system for users all over the world.
>deepin 15 pays more attention to internationalization, and is featured with brand new mirror image acceleration (CDN acceleration). Languages supported are up to 30 kinds, thus the infinite charm of deepin can be experienced globally! Newly added languages are as follows:Malay, Bulgarian, Swedish, Croatian, Japanese, Korean, Finnish, Spanish (Latin America), Hindi (India), Ukrainian
>Besides, we have reached an important cooperative relationship with Intel. We will collaboratively utilize Crosswalk Project to migrate existing Web applications to deepin (Linux platform), thus to enrich the diversity of application for deepin and improve deepin experience!
>Beautiful to Eyes, Pleasant to Ears
>With simple, elegant and content-first principle, flat design has been adopted for the interface, new Control Center is more unified with Dock. Meanwhile, a whole-new white system-theme has been used in this Edition. Awarded wallpapers from Deepin Wallpaper Contest are preset in the system, to customize a deepin for you!
So /g/, have you already installed the latest version of the best looking linux distro?
I would like to remember you that Deepin 15 is no longer based on Ubuntu but on Debian. They've also redone their DE and it's now based on Qt.
Enjoy the extra performance.
The detailed changes are as follows:
>Desktop environment front end uses Qt to refactor, back end still uses Go to write and communicates through d-bus
>Window manager is changed to Mutter and Metacity from Compiz, and realize the intelligent switching of window manager
>Fully realize pluggable Dock and Control Center
>Use the latest kernel of Linux 4.2.0 stable version
>Add more drivers of bluetooth, network card and sound card
>The system base is changed to Debian sid from Ubuntu.
>Initializer (int) is changed to systemd from Upstart.
>The default shell is restored to bash from Zsh.
>Basic packages upgrade: GTK+3.18.6-1, Qt 5.5.1, gcc 5.3.1
Deepin is not Puppy linux nor it claims to be it, but if you ask me this version has improved performance if you compare it from 2014.3, which was good anyway.
