are you an arch user by any chance?
why spam these shitty threads all the time?
>>52366847
Parabola actually
>>52366876
>quick reminder once per day
>spam
Because when I started posting these there were 3 different "oh no cryptoransomware ate my files wat do" threads up, so I reminded people that regular backups will prevent that from happening
Are there any virus today that can completely destroy a computer?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RrnWFAx5vJg#t=10
Only scared of encryption viruses nowadays.
>>52366642
This is the biggest threat, but if out there there's a virus that can fuck with your HDD/SSD firmware then you should be worried about that. That is the ultimate bricker.
Pretty much anything that runs at ring 0 could in theory rewrite firmware with bad shit. However if you happen to have a motherboard with a switchable BIOS, you could save your ass pretty quickly.
If we're talking about halting and catching fire, then not really. I'm guessing you *COULD* write code that tells the BIOS to overvolt to 2.0V and fry the CPU, though.
Ever dropped a CPU before on a hard surface?
Did it end up working?
Tested once with a Pentium 4 CPU, did all kinds of resistance.
Dropping, Stepping and dropping stuff over it was okay.... But slamming an hammer on it didn't work so well.
Never truly had a cpu out of the comp for more than a couple hours for maintenance.
Generally gets sat out of the way while I fuck with other parts
I dropped a new and expensive CPU, and bent some pins. I bent them back with a creditcard and all was well.
What does /g/ think about the new surface book?
>>52366378
New?
Bump because im about to get one
It could be good if it could shut properly, oh and when I went to the store to try it out it static electricity shocked me.
Raspberry Pi thread?
I really like the device but the rasbian OS is shit.
What are some cool things to do with it /g/?
>>52366181
Kodi. Best thing ever.

This.. And

Sega Studios != Sega
Gems Angry Birds Go != Angry Birds
Its a free market after all, why are you so jealeous some people earn money with their work?
WE
Pic related.
Makes me kinda sad we can shell out massive amounts of money for tech that really does not belong to us, we cannot do with it as we please.
I really don't give a shit about the AVG, but I do find it very annoying my OS can and does uninstall programs without my permission, it is in control, not I. And at its core it seems designed to harvest as much data from me as possible for the profit of someone else.
You pay for the hardware, but its useless without the software, the software can do what it wants, how it wants, you are forced to accept...

They saved you from being sold.
>AVG
dont see the problem here, all free antiviruses are shit but avg beats them all in that, you should be thankful, to top it off youd have to reinstall it anyway since its current version wasnt compatible and actually might have broke something
What the fuck is wrong with people.
You will all use xXXxCleanYourPC420DoctorxXXx Ultimate-dank edition.
But as soon as it comes with the PC you all throw your shit around like monkeys.

Sup' /g/,
got an offer from Lionbridge today as "Internet Ads Assessor". I don't even know what the fuck exactly I am supposed to do, some content rating and translation afaik.
Anyone got experiences with that or a similar company?
Rate of pay is 12,51€/$13,60, which is pretty neat for someone with nothing except A-levels.
Task Description:
In this role you will be reviewing online advertisements in order to improve their content, quality and layout. You will be required to provide feedback and analysis on advertisements found in search engine results and provide ratings on their relevance to the search terms used. Another aspect of this role will involve reviewing the language used in advertisements by examining grammar, tone and cultural relevance.
Probably some localization QA job. It really depends on where you work for them. I really enjoyed their polish office many years ago.
>>52365679
Definitely localization QA. Just checking that the spelling is correct and that the translation is contextually correct. Also checking that words don't get cut out because of lack of space or goes out of the box.
Very boring to quite fun job, depending on what you get to work on. Apply for their video game QA department(s). Lots of fun (usually).
Is this for a English language or is it for non-English stuff?
How come Eclipse, the worst one out of these, is the most popular?
Lots of unis use it and most code monkeys can't be bothered to learn anything else
>NetBeans
>better than Eclipse
IntelliJ is legitimately the best but you're probably only using it because it's a meme.
>>52365542
Netbeans is decent
Whats the best VPN?
It needs to:
>fast speeds
>allow torrenting
>no logs
>rare flags
>cheap
Optional:
>Firewall
>Antimalware option (filter bad domains)
>>52365410
certainly not the one on picture
>>52365443
It was a random one, it doesnt have rare flags or a cheap price.
>>52365410
Rent a VPS and setup your own VPN
Cheaper and you learn something
>eye have post vitrous detachment
>floaters everywhere, one big one in right eye, smaller on the left
>cant stare at a white background on a 27 inch monitor
No VR for me probably
>>52365378
I get glowing red dots in the centre of my vision and my minds eye at night.
Apparently my aura is purple
I have lots of floaters too, you get used to them. Someday I want to have them cleaned out, but I hear that can sometimes cause other complications so I've just been dealing with it.
>>52365378
You watch too much /tv/
anyone else notice the wiki is down?
>>52365052
You are fucking retarded
tst
>>52365052
It's not down.
I used windows 10 before and i'd like to upgrade to it.however, my pc is full of illegal downloaded tv series and movies. should i worry or give it a try?
Put the content on an external drive of some sort. Wipe all of that crap off the drive youre putting the new os on, upgrade the os
>>52364872
use windows 8.1, its better and less botnet
>>52365256
windows 10 search through all your drives though. read the terms and conditions.
Is watercooling really useful ?
Only for extreme overclocking but air cooling has caught up to the point where the difference in performance is negligible.
>>52364853
Air:
+very affordable
+simple to install
+quiet, can be very quiet when idle
*cooling is good enough
AIO:
+cooling on-par with or a little better than air, depending on specific AIO
*fairly affordable
*trickier to set up but difficult to cause component damage
-pump noise loud compared to air coolers, most noticeable at idle temps
Custom loop:
++can cool multiple components easily
+can be very quiet depending on the fans/pump chosen
+looks pretty
-tricky to install,...

Watercooling is really useful.
But for most people, air cooling works just fine.
