Lennart Poettering - "If it's gone I guess we can close the bug. Feel free to reopen it if it reappears."
A stock install of CentOS 7 which is supposed to be the most widely supported and most stable Linux that there is magically stopped booting because of udev/systemd.
That's my ACTUAL EXPERIENCE with systemd and poetteringcode fucking my shit up.
>he fell for the meme
Complexity is the bane of developers and the boon of the users
But of course, not the incompetent, unpaid volunteer developers that have nothing to lose except brownie points. Why the fuck should they handle complexity properly?
>Open sores
If you want GOOD open source software and it's clear it's a minor component and not something so important it has corporations working on it (like the kernel), you have to stick to shit that's simple, because the hobbyist devs are always going to be too lazy and stupid to deal...

Well the system won't even boot now.
At least I know now to ever touch a distro with systemd again. What I'm worried about is all the non-systemd components that poettering has fucked with, namely udev.
Guys I bought a new phone, used it for a couple of days and then got no signal.
Apparently it has been reported as stolen or lost by the guy that sold it to me.
Any ideas of what I can do?

Phone doesn't charge/is slow as shit all the time on pic related. Probably from the mass amounts of porn I watch. I want a new phone that looks amazing and is also really good. Recommend me some phones.
>watching porn slows down your pc, phone, etc
Is it broscience?

If you get a PenTile AMOLED display you basically could not have fucked up more.
Remember when you could do super saver shipping and still get things within a reasonable timeframe?
Do you think Amazon holds non-Prime orders for maximum days in order to bully people into getting Prime?
>>52376992
no I believe prime orders have priorities so if you don't order with prime you need to wait for prime members and the orders before you. and I believe even then it doesn't take them so long to deliver.
sweet, technology
Nice paranoia. I ordered a bunch of books last week. I used Super Saver shipping. I placed the order at almost midnight on Wednesday and it was delivered Friday Morning. Total time from order to delivery was roughly 36 hours.
when will it be time to upgrade from this fucker? its been 5 years and still cant justify it....
>>52376931
ok mate
>>52376912
M8, I have I5 2500k, if ill upgrade, Ill upgrade to something like your CPU.
Why do you have desire to spend money when there is no need, Intel costs money, shit should hold its value.
Another thing is that , basically ,progress of games has dramatically slowed down to almost stopped(if consoles are any indicator, last gen of consoles is almost same as this gen, with higher resolution and bigger textures, also, consoles can run 60fps, I dont know why they are doing that crap, probably some marketing bullshit,...

Hey guys, I'm looking for a good battery operated soldering iron to add to my messenger bag, anybody have recommendations?
I know most people recommend butane for portable soldering irons, but it really feels weird to me to have a flame heating the tip. If you can get one that's powered by like a single 18650 battery, I'd love it.
>>52376830
Doubt it, you need to make a lot of heat to melt solder, an 18650 or any similar sized battery won't be able to do that well. Maybe a battery with a capacity >25 wh could provide the power needed, but then its too bulky.
When could you possibly need to solder something when you don't have access to an outlet?
enjoy that singed hole in your bag I guess.
hey /g/, is installing linux a good solution to my gaming addiction? I currently only have access to optimus laptop and play games which are unavailable in native on linux, will it make me more productive, stop wasting my time, get me laid? im speaking about some normie tier distro, not timesinks like arch
>>52376799

You have 10 seconds to tell me how your hobby OS is superior.

It has professional software, all linux has is desktop circlejerking.

It runs in my laptop.
Just for that accomplishment considering my specs, the devs deserve a nobel.
I'm making a cell phone by wiring a single-board computer (something like a C.H.I.P. or rpi zero) to a GSM module, a battery, and a touch screen.
Is there a version of linux that can take incoming calls and receive outgoing calls? It seems like they are all only capable of data and SMS.
Android
>>52376761
It is spotty on the raspberry pi and even spottier on other single-board computers, isn't it?
>>52376738
Read up on baseband firmware and discover why what you want to do won't work.
Alright /g/ents, I have a Lenovo y50 that I bought for uni and to play games on the road. It's great but the battery life is shit. I get maybe 3 hours, 4 if I cut it's performance dramatically.
I want something light like a macbook air but I'm worried if I get one, I'll get stuck with a piece of aluminum that has an apple sticker on it. What does /g/ recommend for a quality ultrabook?
The new Macbook is actually lighter than the Air, and it feels pretty good from the examples I've used. You're really not going to get good gaming performance out of an actually portable laptop, though. I don't think you actually need to play games on the go, and would suggest buying something small and light that's actually pleasant to use. A lot of chromebooks are actually very good laptops at a cheap price—though you'll struggle to use Microsoft applications on GNU/Linux.
>>52376710
I was honestly thinking about the "New" Macbook and run some different OS's on it. I don't want a chrome OS device (used them a while ago at work, and I didn't like the environment) I dual boot Windows 10 and Mint on my desktop. I just feel that the next macbook will make the current one look even more like shit.
>>52376737
There's literally no reason to buy the 2015 Macbook.
> 1 port
> performs worse than Macbook Air
> costs as much as Macbook Pro
> worst keyboard ever made
I need to build a billing software for my dad, he has a small company, what I need is something to handle 100 customers, 50 products inventory, and print receipts.
I literally know zero about programming, but this is a nice project for starters, if you guys know something better, I dont want something pre built, I want to make it from scratch.

join us at etrm-services.
we're hiring ;)
yes it's fine to build a windows-only desktop application with visual studio
you could also write something cross-platform but bloated in java
or with python and qt
or as a stand-alone single page web application with javascript
or as a standard client-server web application with any number of languages (...and javascript)
or as a mobile application for iPhone in Swift
or as a mobile application for Android in Java again
really any and all languages can do it, but your choice will affect your future. forever.
good...
