Welcome to the technology board, where technology is discussed.
You may be shocked to hear this, but laptops are a technology.

video games are not technology
>>>/v/
what is the purpose of linux over windows?
When your life is so devoid of anything that you want to complicate basic tasks so they take more time.

GMail obviously, gives you the most storage, has probably the most reliable servers in the world, is a perfectly suitable domain name for both business and personal use, has a great web UI with powerful features, etc.

What are some decent-paying computer jobs that AREN'T programming / sysadmin?
I'm good at computers, but I want a more physical / active / hands-on job. I literally HATE being sat at a fucking screen all goddamn day.
I used to work in a computer factory and that was fun. Maybe I should try and become a warehouse manager? Or maybe a components buyer? But are any of those jobs well paid?
IT guy
>>52499672
More specific?
I mean look at pic related. I guess he's some server maintenance guy? Is that kind of thing fun? It certainly looks more practical / active / hands on than just a straightforward development job. I imagine you have to go and visit sites, carry around hardware, replace faulty hardware, perhaps make purchasing decisions on hardware? And then I guess you just need some basic networking and sysadmin knowledge to get things up and running smoothly?
I just really fucking hate desk jobs,...

The Navy has lots of active hands on jobs that pay really well and have amazing benefits to boot.
>You get to travel all around the world too.
who would ever believe this bullshit?
do ppl actually put LP on their phones or anything other than 1 single PC which then requires prompts to try an install on the other device without being at that physical device to grant access?

So /g/, I just pulled this little baby out of one of the old PCs I had lying around the house, and I was wondering, has anyone else had any issues with re-using old HDDs?
I don't really need the space, but an extra 600 GB couldn't hurt.
I have a friend who hooked his old HD up with a SATA/USB adapter and it's worked fine. However, he only really uses it to store images, music and videos. He hasnt tried putting anything too major on it yet.
>>52499482
Yea, I'll probably just use it for old games, movies, images, and other shit I don't want using up space on my main HDD.
>>52499446
I use a decade old HDD for backup of my main SSD and to run a Linux OS, it's slow but just werks.
why did they disable search feature?
http://userscripts-mirror.org/scripts.html

Because you shouldn't be using that site anyways. Nothing on there will ever be updated.

It's 2016 why does every major cell phone company still throttle our speeds? We should boycott this nonsense.
I'm more concerned about if ComCast is bringing data caps to Seattle desu

i have a desktop, when i'm not at home i have a smartphone i can do what i need to on.
>>52499436
it's not about the price but the fact that this is pretty much the only modern free laptop out there.
>is completely unmarked
I don't understand how this isn't a massive trend in laptops
Everybody has this compulsion to slap a big ugly logo or name on the lid
Give it to me straight, /g/, can NTFS be used on Linux with no problems? Are the horror stories about tons of stuff not "just werk"ing true even for a noob distro like Ubuntu? Do you need to learn a ton of command line junk to use many of the open source alternatives to Windows only programs on Linux?
>>52499133
ntfs-3g works well but why would you use NTFS in the first place?

>Are the horror stories about tons of stuff not "just werk"ing true even for a noob distro like Ubuntu?

>Do you need to learn a ton of command line junk to use many of the open source alternatives to Windows only programs on Linux?
No, but it will make it easier.

Dude just move to ext4.
As for cross platform file-system on flash drives just use FAT32

Can someone explain to me the reason that my 150mbps connection apparently isn't sufficient for YouTube to run 720p videos without stopping every couple of seconds?
