Java appreciation thread
I like Java, but I would never admit it IRL.
What's the reasoning behind Java not being a compiled language? Could've been the successor of C++. Now it's just another fart in the wind.
>>52526330
A fart in the wind that happens to be the most popular language in the world

> Sick of Firefox 40whatever taking up so much RAM and being shit
> Try Pale Moon
> So fucking old that no extensions work with it
> Try WaterFox
> Still eats up a shitload of RAM
>forks of a massive shitty project are still shitty
surprise surprise
Guess what, works fine for me faggot.

Midori is rubbish and crashes like mad and nobody has the skill or commitment to make a new browser.
If /g/ wasn't just arguing about Java vs Python and never actually writing anything, we could fix this.
Does this thing fix a slow ass laptop? My dad still uses a shit laptop and won't let me buy a new one for him.
as long as it's not a single core celeron then yeah, it'll make a huge difference.
You usually can't unshit a shit laptop. Probably slow cpu and whatever. If adding ram doesn't fix it just give up.
>>52526181
depends, I own an i3 ULV-laptop and without ssd its pretty shitty, but with it I'd say it is fast as hell for that price range.
I broke/force-removed DBUS on ubuntu 15.04.
dpkg --force-all -i dbus.deb is spewing dbus-errors.
I'm in terminal as root, what do?
>>52525967
>retard
apt-get purge dbus.
apt-get install ubuntu-desktop
>>52526003
I force installed dbus_1.8.12 but it's screaming systemd not found or something.
i'm going to try the purge now
>>52525967
you installed dbus through a .deb
you may have unmet dependencies
apt-get install -f
Whatever happened to this company?
Carly Fiorina happened.
Women suck with business.
What happened?
>>52525945
Now there are two companies.
Let's discuss laptops. I'm a uni student looking for an ultra laptop that weighs no more than 1.6 kg/3.5 lb.
What do I choose? Yoga 3 Pro? Macbook Pro? Asus Zenbook?
>>52525920
Unless you hate OSX for some irrational reason, there is no excuse not to get a MBP.
>>52525920
T450s

What is /g/ consensus on whatsapp? Is it good? Is it at least kind of secure? I know signal is better in that regard, but no one uses it. How does it perform in comparison to Skype? Does it lag?
>>52525622
they had massive issues with encryption a couple years back. it's better now, but obviously backdoored by the NSA. don't trust it with anything important.
WhatsApp was bought by Facebook. That alone should tell you it isn't secure and anything you say will be on record somewhere.
I'm forced to use it because of normies, i don't even have a fagbook.
Which browser respects my freedoms more? Vivaldi or Opera?
Tor.
>>52525621
Opera sucks the Botnet cock now, and Vivalidi is closed-source.
>>52525621
Neither of them respect your freedoms at all
>Wileyfox Storm
Gonna buy a new phone, should I get this one? I really love the design of it and the price is great at 199£. The only drawback I see is that the battery could be better. What is /g/'s suggestion for a budget phone? I don't want to go over 320€/350$/250£.
Just buy a noname chinese shitphone
>>52525593

>>52525530
I don't understand these fags. Its been patched and saying its vulnerable is like saying XP is vulnerable.
>>52525780
my theory is that they are literally slightly retarded. like how autist get obsessed with apple. they jump on any opportunity to say "haha *nix isnt as secure win10 botnet masterrace"
Why would this even upset you?
What math do you need for computer science?
All of them
To do more than basic shit you will need at least calculus, linear alg, discrete math, probability, estatistics
let us bow our heads, and say a prayer for MS...

I will find you, and will take that from you!
More seriously, this is extremely cool, where did you find it?
Help me /g/. I am seeking the wisdom of people that use FreeNAS.
Which RAID should I use for 4x4TB drives?
Many people advise against RAID-Z1. Most of the time it is compared to RAID-5 which seems to be very common in busuiness and home enviornments - says the internet; and the interntet would't lie to me.
Z1 also offers security for one drive to fail. It's not likely that two of my drives would fail, is it? Why should I go for Z2 then?
My biggest gripe is that for 4 drives with 4 TB of storage place I would only have a little bit more than...

Z1 or mirror. Z2 with 4 drives would be retarded.
Also, you still need backup. Raid is not backup.
>>52525288
Raid z1.
You should also get a tape drive for critical backups.
>>52525288
Also you shouldn't listen to people on the freenas forum, they've grown into something of a cult and have a habit of contradicting the authors of the software they use.
