Android status: SUICIDE WATCH
http://www.extremetech.com/mobile/223684-microsoft-cancels-effort-to-run-android-software-on-windows-mobile-focuses-on-ios-compatibility
Post yfw you realize iOS is superior than Android
>>53245651
Thus only hurts Windows phone retard.
They actually had a full on android subsystem working. people sideloaded the play store onto wp10.
I can totally see how that would have killed the windows store, and why they're not doing it. Still sad.
not surprised. goog would have eaten their app store whole. If MS wants to be a software peddler it couldn't stand for that shit.
at least with the ios bridge that shit has to be republished to their store. surprised the android bridge wasn't just downgraded to that same level though.

What did you expect, really?
Linux Mint's website got hacked for a month because they used WordPress. Wordpress is really shoddy. That being said I changed distros because fuck supporting anyone who uses wordpress
I just started working again, making bank too. So I'm gonna build just about the highest end 1080p machine I can. Post your best parts and reliability with those parts, and why I should use them over others. Pic unrelated.

Which is the fastest DE? I've been looking on the internet ans I cannot decide which to install .
Currently running Ubuntu 15.10
>>53243998
just try them out and use the one you like the most. If you want a light DE you should check LMDE, MATE ans XFCE.
>>53243998
In the picture? Xfce
Cinnamon is pretty decent
How do you keep your family pictures and videos for long term storage. Using optical myself atm. Keep re-burning to new discs every few years. And have made printed the importent ones. The re-burning is getting dedious. Surely there is a better way.
>>53243921
>dedious
>>53243921
When you die, even if someone keeps reburning the CDs, there wuold come a time pretty soon when you would not even find an optical drive to read them.
Save your stuff online. A cloud service. Or if you are savvy, just find space on some server hosting and drop your files there. If they are sensitive, make sure to thoroughly encrypt them before uploading. Shouldnt make them impossible for the FBI or your neighbourhood chinese hacker to decrypt, but should keep everyday snooping to a minimum
>>53243997
Not sensitive at all. I'll think about it. Cloud gets me paranoid for reasons. Something about giving my stuff to others. I'll have no controll over them. Something happens to the keepers (bankruptcy, war, zombie apocalypse) and I lose them. But I would be willing to fight for them. The only things I take from a burning building. Stuff I can buy but these moments will be lost forever.
This is your God.
Getting angry over nothing.

What is the best programming language to learn first? and why?
bottom-up: assembly or C
top-down: lisp or haskell
>>53243774
I think C++. Many people say that it's hard and all, but it's pretty easy to learn and to do great stuff with it, once you buy a good book that'll guide you.
>>53243783
Never learn Assembly first
What's the most common real world sorting algorithm? Which one do you actually use when programming with C or a real language like C#/Java?
>>53243696
.sort()
>>53243696
Quicksort
I believe it sorts in O(log2(n))
>>53244048
Also, it's a general sorting algorithm. It can be implemented in any programming language.
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Quicksort
The complexity is O(n*log2(n)) not O(log2(n)).

Still shit.

come on peeps
People always talk about how making side projects is good for getting hired.
What the fuck do I make? I'm decent at programming I can just never think of anything to make that would be new or do something better than something previous.
At this point I'm considering writing a program to recommend suicide methods.
Don't bother, that's just a bad meme.
What kinda job are you trying to get? Just make a website that you can view on your phone and show an interviewer, "hey look I did this using PHP/MySQL/CSS/whateverthefuck you're looking fuck"
>>53242564
Go into one of those programming threads where they roll for things to make and just do shit from the table and stick it up on github.
It isn't so much about making things for a purpose as it is for having code examples up where they can easily view them and see your competence.

I felt the dead horse needed another beating.
Do people really still use Windows in production environments? Is that not dangerous and/or just plain irresponsible?
I thought companies would work very hard to keep malware off of their network.
>>53242373
I worked for a company that manage identifications (using cards, biometric stuff etc.).
Windows wasn't released we already had clients asking when we will get a windows 10.
I'm starting to wonder if people that decided which language, technologies or OS to use just know a little bit about the subject.

What's /g/'s opinion on the Logitech MX 518?
It's the best mouse I've ever had, I got so used to it that I've been using Logitech mice styled similar to it (ergonomically) ever since
