I honestly wonder what took them so long.
Even MS has it now. But I'm glad they have it now.
>>53435779
>Unix-the-code is owned by SCO
Stopped reading there.
Hey /g/ I made a speaker. What do you think?
>>53431779
I'm an audiophile and this fucking triggers me
>>53431779
You didn't make a speaker, you just fixed a card audio system to plywood
>>53431779
looks like fucking shit mate, learn how to fucking cut a piece of wood, and how to use a goddam paintbrush.
So I'm currently reading Structure and Interpretation of Computer Programs and I'm just wondering /g/'s thoughts on it.
It is quite an old book and I was just wondering if it is still worth its salt in regards to gaining a better understanding of the fundamentals of programming languages.
If not, could anyone direct me to a more current book that does a better job? I've heard it was one of the Holy Grail's of CS Books, so I had to pick it up.

It's good but you have to have some mathematical maturity to appreciate it.
I am reading intel 8080 by Barry because I was figuring out how a number like 22 is stored in computer.
I am OCD driven perfectionist.
I don't know who else to ask for help so here goes:
I recently formatted my HDD and now I can no longet install my monitor driver.
It's an old-ass LG E1941SX that I've had for over 4 years now. It's VGA only and I know it sucks but I really can't afford a new one right now.
I went to LG Support's website and got the recommended drivers there. I tried installing it via device manager and even though it says everything's fine, my video card still doesn't see it as an actual monitor and there are thousands of resolutions...

You can't just manually input resolution and refresh rate?
>>53439884
>installing monitor drivers
wh..
>for a VGA monitor
the hell?
1. look at the LG website for the native resolution
2. choose it from the list
3. ???
4. wow no need for drivers
>>53439928
Yes, but there are other things I can't do without a proper driver.
For example, I can't force my monitor to control the scaling for fullscreen applications. I need that to make classic StarCraft look normal and not stretched out as the GPU makes it.
>tfw you fell for the intel+nvidia meme
I don't feel like I've fallen for anything, infact I'm very pleased with my purchases while my AMD computer has given me nothing but trouble.
Nothing wrong unless you bought skylake
I have an "8 core" (2 logical per physical) AMD CPU and an NVIDIA graphics card; I'm very satisfied with the way things have gone.
I really don't notice a difference between an Intel CPU and an AMD CPU; if you put most of the people from /g/ infront of two different and told them to use it (without cheating) they probably wouldn't be able to tell you which is which.
The biggest speed increase I've noticed over the past couple of years has been when I switched to a samsung 850 pro 256gb; that shit has made boot times and application load times...

Why is Linux so damn frustrating to use? Nothing works and it looks so damn old.
Oh look. It's this bait again.
Install Gentoo
Windows is more frustrating to use desu.
Mac is only frustrating because I don't know the keyboard shortcuts
I am the borne of my shell
unknown to normies
nor known to bash
>>53438697
Id bash it, gnomesayin?
Programs run when they are executed

The theory was this:

>ssh
>mpv [ARRG]Unlimited_shit_anime_720_mxims_.ogg

I'm lookin/g/ for a new phone. I am trying to choose between the Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge and the iPhone 6s Plus (128gb.) Which one would you pick, and why?
>>53438087
What kind of person are you?
If you just want something fast to browse the internet and make calls with, get an iPhone.
But if you want a stronger device to customize into your own liking and have proper "freedom" with, get an Android.
There is no concrete answer to this, as there are many different people who want many different things from their phones. If you ask me, I would personally go for Android, but you don't know for everybody.
I have an Android phone right now (LG G3) and I personally like it, but I really want to use iMessage.
>>53438087
Neither. They're both overpriced tut
Would you let her spy on you, /g/?
only under my sheets :) teehee
>>53437550
Can we talk again about how much the artist fucked up the lower part of her body?
I'm trying to install Gentoo on my ThinkPad T510 and the damn installer just freezes on a black screen with a blinking cursor after I select the key map. It's been how many years, and you neckbeards still can't make an installer that works?! GAME OVER MAN! GAME OVER!
>>53437375
How can I install Gentoo, if the installer won't even boot?
>>>/wsr/
Also if you can't figure this out on your own you're too dumb for gentoo so go back to /v/
>>53437375
gentoo is a meme distro, not even it's creator uses it.
Get Ubuntu MATE or GNOME.
Is this the cheapest/best option for a 27 inch/144hz/IPS/<5ms monitor?
I'm not an AMD fag so the freesync means nothing to me.
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824236466
>144hz <5 ms
>IPS
Choose one
If you're not an AMD poorfaggot, you should get a G-Syncâ„¢ display in order to play the way it's meant to be played.
>>53437117
you could save 100 bucks and get all those features + 4k resolution if you'd give up 144hz.
just saiyan.
Has anyone done Google summer of code. What should one expect?
>>53437111
>wasting your summer coding with a bunch of fat sweaty and hairy neets

>not wasting your summer coding
what reason are you on /g/ then? unless it's video games then you got on the wrong board
>>>/v/
>>53437111
Expect assplay with moot
this k120 has lasted me about 2 years already and doesnt even cost $10 with shipping
that means it would take 20 years before a memechanical brown-switch keyboard would actually pay itself off in terms of value
and thats if it never breaks or the USB cable doesnt wear out on the back
and assuming my k120 is going to become unoperable anytime soon
With that mindset you must only wear caterpillar work boots and dickies jumpsuits
It's not about longevity, it's about how nice they are to type on. My $90 mechanical keyboard has lasted me 5 years so far.
>>53436496
i wore timberland chuka's for like 5 years, the inner sole padding was the only thing that needed to be replaced
but that doesnt make sense, cause if the keyboard isnt going to be as low profile and lightweight but also require switches to be replaced or whatnot within that 10 years then its not worth it
nearly none of the memechanical keyboards that are low profile even come in brown, they're all the loud ass blacks so alone makes it even less appealing or worth it
