Why does /g/ not like Cinnamon? It seems to be the best DE right now. Runs perfect on my meme T420
Arch, Install It .
>>53542135
Cinnamon is ok i just dont use it because it does not fit my personal taste
>>53542176
Yeah I probably will tonight. Ran it on arch before it is was nice as well. just dual booting right now so in cautious mode. haven't been on it in probably year and a half
>>53542194
I just dig how it works out of box well. easy for keybinds. I remember it being much mor ebuggy back in the day. Now the themes dont even take long to load the first time lol
Whats the point of using linux? This is an actual question i am just curious, as i am currently using windows and wondering if there is any reason to switch.
Passion, hobby, learning few (autistic) things
that and security, freedom, all tin foil /pricavy/antibotnet dreams,
yes it's take time, but it's a hobby, that can sometime pay off

Muh games
What is the foobar2000 of GNU/Linux ?
>GNU/Linux
It's just Linux.
>>53542011
Insert Stallman Pasta
>>53541961
sadly there is no music player that is as good as foobar on Linux
mpd+ncmpcpp and cmus are popular players but i dodnt like either of them so i just use deadbeef
>>53541961
deadbeef
Are vidyo gaymes and gaymin in general the cancer killing technology? Its their fault we are wasting technological resources on useless shit like video cards, 'moar ram' and 'moar cores', instead of focusing on quality and actual innovation. Thank good with have companies like Apple that don't think like that.
>>53541880
No, people thinking that shit will go down are the cancer.
>>53541892
Its not about going down, its about going the wrong way.
>>53542042
what's the right way, fampai?
>>53541778
music on console
ayylmao2000 or that bee trash
>>53541778
Foobar?
Why is Gentoo a meme and Arch supreme?
If you've got an i7 it compiles just as fast as Arch installs.
It's also easier to compile than Arch because it does it automatically.
It also has a better wiki.
>>53541427
Arch NEETs couldn't figure out how to install Gentoo so they went with Arch instead.
Arch isn't actually supreme, they've just convinced themselves so to cope with their own incompetence
>>53541498
Arch is pretty great actually. I like being bleeding edge without bloatware.
>>53541427
I don't know. I installed Gentoo twice and was disappointed both times. It's not like it's horrible or anything, but it's kinda like getting a pet and realizing you don't want the responsibility of taking care of it.
/g/ confession thread, share what you've been shamefully holding back
>I regularly enjoy watching LinusMemeTips
>I bought an XFX R9 390 over a Sapphire one that would've been cheaper because I didn't know anything at the time
>I use both my GPU and integrated graphics to run one monitor each, because my secondary monitor only has VGA input and I'm too cheap to buy a DVI to VGA adapter
Worst of all...

I got 8 gigs of ram for my current PC
I could've left the RAM equal to my previous comp
My Winblows 10 gaming PC intermittently freezes when playing gaymes and I've done nothing to solve it other than hope it goes away
Honestly XFX has gotten better over the years. I still have a R9 280X from them and it works great
Are there any interesting projects out there attempting to make a smart AI that has a personality and is able to think and communicate intelligently? I don't mean stupid chat bots that repeat memes that it learned from thousands of people talking to it.
Is this kind of thing even possible? How would you go about writing a program that is a constantly running process that learns how to receive string inputs from a user and understand what it means?
I remember downloading a program like this but it didn't have any genuine intellect. It was written in Pascal...

You are retarded. You don't know what anything means. You will never make a computer learn any of it either. You are just as dumb as a 4 bit half adder.
>>53541075
oh.
>being so socially retarded that you're waiting for someone to make an AI so you could chat with it
Go out and make some friends you fag
It's 2016!
Let's do this.
>>53541000
goodbye all value in that field
>>53541171
as if that would make anything worse considering how shit American education is to begin with
if you can get people interested in cs from a younger age it's better for everyone
>>53541000
but that's good
Let's write a software license, one sentence per post.
WE
The license for this software and other practical works are designed to take away your freedom to share and change the works.
Not responsible for any damage.
-Fast charging
-Streams video
-Faster transfers than usb 3.0
Why are modern laptops not using this new technology /g/? I can understand the absent feature phones, as theyre more targeted toward general consumers who dont care about such a feature, but at college, it would be a godsend to have a standard charging cable, as opposed to the half dozen or so proprietary charging cables people are forced to use.
When do you see USb type c becoming more popular? Also, I was reading it charges at up to 100 watts, meaning, if there were a wire tear, or even some...

>100 watts
>this voltage could do some damage to the human body
That's not how electricity works. Also usb 3.1 is 20v max.
None of this is remotely as dangerous as lithium batteries, which are everywhere. No we aren't holding things back for safety.
>>53540981
20 volts * 5 amps = 100 Watts fampai
>>53541014
Right, but that voltage will not hurt you.
What is the best CPU cooler I can get that isn't custom water cooling? Should I get an AIO cooler or an air cooler?
>Should I get an AIO cooler or an air cooler?
Depends, what will it cool?
>>53540829
...The CPU? I stated that lol
>>53540804
Noctua NH-D15
Building my first PC wondering what would be the best for gaming
An iPad
>>53540721
Depends on budget. You can get an i7k and overclock it for best results but if you want to save your money get an i5 or i5k cpu. You really don't need anything more. Spend most of your money on the graphics card
Razr by Motorola. Really good graphics, would recommend!
I've created some polls - please answer. I'd like to see if /g/ is memeing or is serious about free software.
Most of these are yes or no questions.
Please note my mistake in the first poll, if you'd like to call Linux a "kernel", sure, but I meant Linux Distribution.

Just voted. I use Windows on one laptop that I mainly use for gaming, and Linux mint on my other laptop which is for media consumption.
