what software or workflow do you use to track your projects and tasks? I use
- trello for work (visible by all colleagues)
- trello (2nd private account) for organizing certain tasks in a way I don't want my colleagues to see
- workflowy for keeping track of meeting notes, etc.
anything other than these tend to be too time consuming to use effectively
I agree it is handy, but the Trello shilling for the sake of background images and dog stickers make them feel childish. Trello gold - fuck off.
I tried using github issues purely as a project management tool and it wasn't very effective due how much clicking through the ui was required
>>53757890
We just run a gitlab instance and use the issues system. You can assign issues, set milestone dates, tag, etc. It's not the most sophisticated thing, but works well enough for my company.
I have a question, /g/.
Almost every major OS out today is based on a kernel older than many of its current developers, and has decades of legacy bloat so that businesses who use it don't completely lose compatibility.
But... Why?
Why must the inner machinations of the most important invention in human history since the wheel be so difficult to comprehend that even the people who work on it don't completely understand it, if at all? Why does everything have to have such significant overhead? Why can't an OS be designed from the ground up to...

Simple, fast, pick one.
>>53757402
Is it really that simple? I would think requiring the processor to... Well, process less, would lead to better performance. Less lines of code should therefore equal a faster solution.
Unless I'm missing something?
The requirements are too complex.
A text-based OS would be able to do what you say.
A graphical one that needs to be both modern and 30 years old, not so much.
Imagine rewriting C64's BASIC every release, not so bad.
Imagine rewriting the 15GB Windows. Very bad.
Apple has removed Molex from its pool of preferred suppliers and shifted new business to Hirose.
Apple is Molex's largest single customer.
Molex was acquired by Koch Industries two years ago. Koch Industries is controlled by Charles and David Koch, brothers who have donated hundreds of millions to conservative political causes.
The fuck does Molex even make that Apple uses?
>>53756852
You know all the weird custom interconnects between circuit boards in iPhone, MacBook, Mac Pro, etc?
Those are all made by Molex.
I don't understand why misinformed people always demonize the Kochs, as far as conservatives go they're some of the most tame people, Cato is one of the biggest supporters of immigration for example.
And they're not even the biggest fundraisers for political causes, plenty of left-wing Democrats like Soros and Tom Steyer spend much, much more on much more questionable causes (including funding people smugglers in Greece-Turkey right now, or femen in Ukraine & Russia)
Wayland won't be the default display server protocol in Gnome Session on Fedora 24, despite all the hype.
Wayland as default was rescheduled for Fedora 25.

>We have decided not to make Wayland, the next generation graphic stack, the default in Fedora 24 Workstation. However, Wayland remains available as an option, and the Workstation team would greatly appreciate your help in testing. Our goal is one full release where the non-default Wayland option works seamlessly, or reasonably...

What's the benefit in spraying a computer with smoke? I know fuck all about them, but it seems to me like it would damage it. I called the dudes at Best Buy, but they don't carry it. Any help would be appreciated.
mesquite gives your computer more zip
That's just compressed air pushing the dust out of the computer.

I hope he disconnected the fans from the motherboard first, or at least jammed the blades with toothpicks or something.
Below and behold the most ridiculous database solution ever seen.
A Arch database package ( core.db, community.db etc.) is a tar archive inside a tar.xz, with a list of folders, for each package a folder.
Interesting decision making.
What's so terrible about it? It's simple, easy to manipulate via shell scripts, and optimized for small file size. It's also easy to keep an exploded version in version control for easy management.

Programming challenge:
write a good function/method/subroutine for calculating exponents, such that f(a,b) = aᵇ
choose whatever language you want
#include <math.h>
double exp(double a, double b) {
return pow(a,b);
}
F (a,b):
Int result = 1
For int I = 0, I < b, i++:
result *= a
Return result

Nice try. I said a good function, not an easy one
My C drive crashed yesterday morning, since then I've been trying to boot a copy of Windows from my bios to install it on a new hard drive that I bought yesterday. I don't have a physical copy of Windows, so I've been trying to launch the installation via a flash drive and burning an ISO to a DVD, neither worked. Any suggestions?
Install Gentoo.

Never have I ever had more problems with the stability (tab crashes, application crashes, plugin crashes, unresponsive tabs and an unresponsive application) and general usage of a web browser in my life.
Why do they impose mandiatory extension signing on beta?
What the fuck happened.
Everything used to be so easy and now...I have to shoot myself in the fucking foot just to use a few important extensions.
I just...
Why do things have to be this way.
Mozilla hates it's userbase

All I ever did was use their program and recommend it to everyone I know...
Wait...
Oh no.
I put more normies on to firefox...
I...played a role in making firefox think that their browser had to function perfectly for normies...which means taking away freedoms.
What have I done?
What have we all done?

*BSD General Thread
Discuss FreeBSD, OpenBSD, NetBSD, DragonFlyBSD...

Are you a Linux user wondering about why someone might choose BSD?
Give this a read: https://www.over-yonder.net/~fullermd/rants/bsd4linux/01
OpenBSD 5.9 released early!!! http://www.openbsd.org/59.html
I'll give you a pitybump and also because I was curious to know if anyone has tried a *BSD with Vagrant i.e. actually creating a box of a *BSD VM and how it went?
I'm looking to build a little server VM that I'll use for projects but I was using Debian then I remembered how nice FreeBSD was to configure and install, so I might try it again.
Why is this thread so unpopular?
>>53755404
Because /g/ is made of a bunch of 'tards obsessed with ricing up linux installations to watch animu, view photos, and run colored terminal windows.
Meanwhile, I'm concerned about launching my next jails-style web server. So I'm here. Sorta.
Why does both Ruby and Python exist?
They are seemingly nearly identical other than syntax, what is the point of both of them existing?
>>53744535
Know that xkcd meme about how standards proliferate? the same process operates with programming languages
>>53744535
Their syntax is wildly different. That's reason enough: people would rather use the one they like better, and programming languages are not a scarce resource.
Now python and lua, that's a valid pair for this question. I honestly don't know why lua still exists.

Welcome to /fg/lt/, or as I've recently taken to calling it, /fg+lt/. We are always open to users of all levels, including absolute beginners.
There are four ways to try GNU/Linux, you can:
0) Install a GNU/Linux OS on a VM (Virtual Machine/VirtualBox) for "safety purposes"
1) Use the Live ISO directly without installing anything, that way, you can get a "full GNU/Linux experience".
2) Dual-boot GNU/Linux with Windows/Mac (recommended...
