Is technological progress slowing down?
Computers have been the fastest improving thing we've witnessed it the past 20 years but generally speaking we've had no major improvements elsewhere. Robotics is more or less the same, we still rely on fossil fuels, our military tech isn't too much better, planes, and cars haven't had a major improvement in at least 30 years.
Look at the 20th century the first half witnessed incredible improvement even with, heck, because of two major wars.

We've been focused on making things more efficient, rather than on making new things.
Our progress in improving today's processors, storage, and energy management are frankly amazing, as is today's energy efficiency with vehicles.

The cost for a custom water loop alone is around $500 for a CPU and single GPU. + fans, radiator, tubing, fittings, etc.

Hey /g/. Has anybody here had laser eye surgery? If so, was it worth it? My eye doctor tells me I might be eligible in about a year, but not to expect 20/20 vision. I've been wearing glasses since age four, and my vision has become slowly but steadily worse. I can't see well beyond 2 metres, and I have visual snow, starbursts, and halos.
I really hope replacement, mechanical eyes are a thing in my lifetime.
I don't know exactly what my values on X/Y are but it seems that its good enough that I won't need any glasses anytime soon.
The eye person told me later in my life I may need glasses since I will get short sighted from looking into a monitor all day (kind of job-related) if I don't start doing more outdoor activities.

Sorry to hear that anon. I'm thankful that despite the trouble I have my vision is generally correctable to 20/20. My prescription is so strong though that it causes me considerable eyestrain while using the PC, and if my glasses fall off the nightstand, I have difficulty locating them.

It should only exit the program for lightweight utility-type apps. Basically if all the functionality is in one window, and you can't open documents or anything, you can do it that way.
OSX has been getting a little bloat-y, but that is one of the features that has had a pretty low impact on cognitive loading.
