Why does everyone always shit on arch, it works fine for what it is -- A nice hobby OS that is both functional and a toy.
>>53830860
Gentoo is better
>>53830918
I tried gentoo once, but I managed to fuck it up after a few months and picked up arch.
I'm addicted to the lazy, insecure piece of shit that I love: AUR.
Because of the exact dichotomy you demonstrate between "meh hobby" and "I'm better than you". You try being better than everyone else and once you can't argue back, you hide behind "wellll it was just a hobby anyway what are you some kind of no funner".
Same exact shit with BSD, haiku, we have those threads sometimes where it starts off with "Why aren't you using BSD, I'm better than you" and by the end of the thread, only 50 posts later, it's "wellll it was only for servers so fuck off". Only...

Your trusty phone charging cable is technology. What kind of cable does /g/ use? Bonus points for fast/quick/turbo charging.
I use anker powerline micro usb cables. They seem to speed up charging somewhat.
>>53830867
Hows the connector? Lots of reviews saying the connector breaks real easy
>>53831086
Haven't had any problems so far but I've only owned them for about 2 weeks. I got them pretty cheap (3-pack for $7) so if they turn out to be trash I won't feel too bad. They seem sturdy as fuck though.
How many gallons do you think this plastic container holds?
>>53830455
Somewhere between I don't know and fuck you I believe. Fill it up and tell us!
>gallons
>not litres
why?
you planning on holding your semen collection in it?
Does /g/ still carry physical cash? Technology has made it seem almost pointless now. For myself I never carry any kinds of coins at all.
>>53830112
I only use cash to pay.
I carry a few hundred dollars of cash at a time and pay with it primarily.

What cheap Chinese tech have you bought, and would you recommend it?
Yes, we know everything is already from China but in here we discuss the no/low-name cheap shit you see on eBay, AliExpress and similar sites.

mouse thread?
my zowie ec2 evo is double clicking after 3 years of use so either i fix the switches or buy a new mouse.
I'm looking for mice with comparable performance and ergonomics as the zowie mice and so far my friends have recommended me the mionix castor, but let me know what you guys recommend.
There's really no reason not to just get another Zowie. Unless you think they're a bit of a scummy company, which they kinda are.
>>53829668
Castor is a good pick. Alternatively one of these two (or Naos)
>>53829746
502 is way too heavy for anyone except for fat kids who like brick mice. Anything more than 100g is stupid.
is buying a license to all jetbrains products worth it?
i work daily with python, javascript, java, db's and maybe ios/osx in the future.
it's 250$ for a year, and after a year it's just bug fixes and security updates.
it's a lot, but it's also my job. what do you think?

one of my coworkers uses phpstorm to great effect. I prefer Atom or Sublime Text 3 in vim mode more. Honestly, whichever tool you can learn and be productive with is the best, whether that's vim or a more fleshed out IDE like PHPStorm. Take the trial and then decide if you'll use all of the features.
>>53829667
honestly their software is great.
if you're a student you get to use their software for free
>is paying money for an IDE worth it
Buy it, the people scamming you deserve your money more than you.

Yahoo was headed into the ground anyways. They'll get bought by Microsoft when they go down sufficiently in value.

My brother just ordered a new phone and it will arrive the next week so i'll take his old HTC One X to replace my dumbphone. I want to know what would be the best things to do on this phone? Like, i'm already looking on XDA forums and instantly saw the Cyanogenmod 12.0 rom availble but i'm not sure if that's the best to flash on it or if i should put something else like the Resurrection Remix rom. Any advice would be welcome mostly if you have experience with that phone. Also as the last question i'd like to know if i should just use my primary gmail...

stay away from cancerous custom ROMs. Only acceptable option is the latest CM stable.
>>53829541
CM12 is 5.0.x while other stable roms are 5.1.1. I don't really now what to get. Anything will be fine for me as long as it won't eat my battery or is full of annoying bugs
>>53829642
There's a reason for that. You need to choose who to trust: the entire CM team or some random french developer

doesn't xfce have a search function?
the keyboard thing works fine in the other *buntus.
Even if everything else fails, you could just use xmodmap. (I use it anyway so I can get a better layout for my own needs)

You configure the keyboard settings during installation, doofus.
Not being able to map to a location is a network issue, not the OS.

Xubuntu is almost perfect for Linux newbs. Everything just works. Being too heavy on the CPU is its only downside against Lubuntu.
