What is the best lossy format and why?
I nominate .ogg vorbis--widely supported, free and very good quality.
>>53798053
for what media?
MP3 v0 for music and MP4 for videos, but personally I only use lossless - FLAC and H.264 lossless

Ubisoft to start favoring AMD?

>>53797969
Don't worry--as soon as NVIDIA outbids AMD (not hard to come up with over 20 dollars) then they will change their tune.
They've been doing this for awhile. X1 and PS4 both use AMD and Ubisoft's PC ports are complete ass.
This is my OS.
It's called Porteus-Kiosk. Based in Gentoo.
The only thing I can do in it is to browse using Firefox or Chrome (choosen in installation).
What do you think?
truly amazing

>>53795397
Hey, a real Gentoo user on /g/. I've never used it, but I'm about to install it for the first time, can you maybe help me out?
Is there a good guide somewhere? The website's documentation is really shitty compared to Arch's
>>53795397
another pic
>>53795433
the site's handbook is quite good. following it from a to z will get you the os running with minimal trouble.
i didn't rely on other sources of information, maybe googled about portage a little (quite new for me). 'man' is always there to help you with your commands
Ok /g/. I've fallen for the linux meme and I've just installed debian with xfce. I have no idea what the fuck I am doing. I guess first I have to install drivers since I'm not getting any sound videos just play at max speed. A driver disk came with my mobo but it and all the downloads on the website are for windows only. What do I do?
don't install debian first go even if some /g/ faggots tell you to
Ubuntu will come with newer drivers.
Sudo apt-get install drivers
1) Don't use xfce if you're new.
2) Try again with linux mint
3) Google your particular MOBO or video card for proper drivers.
Why is Windows XP the one distro people refuse to move away from and why are XP users moving to Linux insisting on forcing their Windows XP clone desktop environments down everyone's throats? I mean specifically MATE/Cinammon/Lxde/Xfce etc.
Why does it matter to you? It's not like there aren't alternatives to that kind of DE

General mpv player discussion

I want my network streams to cache as much as possible (within reason)
Despite having added--cache=1024000
I still get[cache] Cache size set to 75032 KiB (75000 KiB backbuffer)and the stream stops caching at 10s
Also even though 10s are cached, I'm still unable to seek within those 10 seconds.[cplayer] Run command: seek, flags=9, args=[3.000000, exact, unused]
[lavf] queuing seek to 3.834167
[lavf] execute seek (to 3.834167 flags 41)
[lavf] seek done

Now that we know microsoft won, why are you still wasting your time with opengl? DirectX12 will be open sourced too to destroy vulkan mess.
This player runs like shit on windows especially with streaming sources.
Can't understand freetards who use this shit just because it doesn't use proprietary api.
