So has anyone tried out 16.04 yet? I usually wait at least a few months to make sure there are no surprises. Kinda curious tho. Anyone know any specifics on the SNAP security issue?

Unity runs better by a mile, mesa supports 4.1 ootb meaning I get all muh games without padoka.
>>54213549
Are you running it? Can you check if they fixed the "Move Window to Workspace" keyboard shortcut?
The last few times I used Unity it was broken and had to use some compiz hack
I've been digging it. First thing I did was uninstall ubuntu session and install Cinnamon, and mine looks great. apt is slightly more powerful than apt-get, and other than that it's just any old debian based operating system.
Can I get more info on this snappy security issue? Is it an actual issue, from what I understand it just executes code anyways: as long as I don't download malicious packages from malicious repos I should be good?
Gimme your best reasons as to why I should use Linux

I have f.lux on my desktop. Having said that - I NEED a red light filter on my ereader and tablet which dont support any f.lux.

>kindle paperwhite
Whats the most elegant way to go about this?

Why do you need flux on those machines? They're not driven with backlights like LCD screens are.

I know things like TOR, tails, etc. but how do I REALLY go off the grid? Student researcher, completely for legal purposes.
feds have tor cracked.
go to a super dense urban area, buy a laptop with cash, use a cantenna to steal wifi a few blocks away, and pay cash for your room.

You don't use the internet and get info/evidence whatever from people you trust in person.

Still no fix for improperly detecting unwatched files. Literally been an issue since at least 12.x. I'm just going to fix it myself.
Is it a bad idea to buy a 4k monitor to watch 1080p content?
Is it a bad idea to buy a semi truck to commute to work?
>>54208508
It's a waste of money, but since 4k is literally just 4 times more pixels, every 1 pixel will turn into 4 and you won't notice a difference.
nah, nnedi3 and upscale that shit. you won't notice a difference.
you're better off getting a 1440p high refresh panel though.

Any of you /g/anoomen have kids?
I'm thinking to give my kid a laptop for his 5th birthday, not sure what distro to put on it, I want him to have a lot of kid-type stuff available by default so I was thinking Edubuntu but they don't seem to want to upgrade it to 16.04 which is kind of annoying.
Might just end up installing Edubuntu 14.04.2, it's not like much changed in 2 years anyway.
>>54203570
Honestly, your 5 year old is not going to care or know the difference. The most important thing is giving them something they'll know how to use. Edubuntu is probably the right choice unless you'd like to switch to TempleOS
I gave my wife's son my own laptop with riced Gentoo on it.
I'm now using only my phone because that was my only laptop. He said he's very happy with it.
