There was a good thread about this up yesterday. Look in the archive.
Okay /g/ I'm going to buy a laptop soon I mostly just want to use it for streaming and programming.
I've been looking at ultrabooks because they just seem awesome for programming but are they really worth the cost?
Also has anyone ever done one of those pay once a month for 12 month plans from dell, lenevo, hp, etc.? I could pay the lump sum but I'd rather just pay like $40 a month if that's a nice option but I've honestly never heard anyone talk about that if it's nice or not.
>>54293176
Ultra books are great if you arnt doing anything to intensive
You'll end up paying more of you do monthly rather than lump sum.
/thread
>>54293176
Don't EVER do a plan on something like a laptop or a fridge or whatever. You'll end up paying a much larger total (MUCH larger) than if you were to just pay a lump sum.
Just streaming and programming?
Any cheap used laptop with a 1080p screen and a good build quality should do.
Anyone here with this OS? What are the best and worst things about it?
>>54293106

Hey /g/, I'm new to this whole networking gig and I've got a couple questions about expanding a network.
I'm currently with Comcast, and use their Arris TG862G-CT all-in-one (and yes, it's shit).
I live in a two story home, and want to expand into the lower second floor on the house.
Would it be possible to bridge it with another router (Netgear N600 for ref.) with an ethernet cable
and essentially have the Arris do all the DHCP work and have the Netgear work off of it
(static IP, and identical wireless credentials), giving me 3 wired...
Comment too long. Click here to view the full text.
Have a gift from /g/: call geeksquad
Yeah it is possible. Not sure about the n600 specifically... but I have a router from the provider that handles the dhcp and an ac66u with dhcp disabled. My old belkin router had a wireless access mode which basically did all the setup automatically.

Hello, I'm a new filmmaker in the Detroit area. I was wondering if anybody on this board could give me some critique on this short film, and maybe recommend a better camera than the Nikon D3200 that is also somewhat affordable. Also, what boom mic should I get as a starter?
Here is the video

>>54292661
For video recording - mirrorless is better.
But a Nikon D3200/3300 should do the job.

AMD Zen will have soldered lids, right?
Do current AMD CPUs have solder under their lids?
I will dump intel in a heartbeat if Zen has real soldered CPU lids.
Seriously, tin is not expensive and it takes low energy to melt tin and pour it. Why the fuck did intel cut this?
>>54292165
Their current line-up is soldered, yes. Only Intel would be Jewish enough to try and save $0.000001 per chip by using cheap TIM instead.
>>54292204
thanks
i suspected this
it's amazing how intel dominates the market share of desktop CPUs and they would do something completely drastic and careless by cutting out solder.
solder is very important for CPUs
AMD on the otherhand, hardly sells any desktop CPUs but still refuse to cut soldering because they are not fucking retarded and no person in their right mind would do this to a desktop CPU
that shouldn't even be an option to sacrifice of quality
>>54292165
Because they want their chips to thermal throttle so you don't just jack them up to 5 ghz and not buy another on for 10 years.
