I need a computer that can run a minimum of 24 programs at the same time. No this is not a joke. My mother runs a small business. She has running at any time a travel program, 3 separate internet browsers with a minimum of 50 tabs each, pdf pro sommin or other, word and excell with 20 documents open minimum, and way too much more to talk about. No she is not flexible with closing these programs.
Im thinking an ssd, a 6 or 8 core processor, and 16 GB RAM. Beyond that im not too sure. Im thinking the ssd might be all i need though
>>54309576
16 GB RAM ROFL
>>54309576
Might as well do this

/g/, why most of programmers and especialy 'hackers' choose lenovo Thinkpad as a laptop?
>>54309554
>why most of programmers choose lenovo
Achtually, most of us choose Apple. Just saying.
>>54309554
the actual question is
"why is thinkpad such a popular choice?"
lurk more
if youve been on /g/ for a while youll eventually read on anons opinions on why theyre good laptops
>>54309706
so, the main cause is technical
characteristics or other special
features?
Is there any Linux distros that just come with a universal GUI installer for all deb, tar, exe, MSI, etc files?
Gentoo
>GUI install for deb, tar, exe, MSI
wat
deb files are special tar balls,
a tar is a file archive
and a fucking exe is a windows compiled binairy
and MSI some spoopy installer
>>54309543
If I knew how to install shit on Linux I wouldn't be asking!

do extraverts even exist in IT/CS?
>>54309494
How can I live?
How can I die?
Or you can just not do it and lie on your resume like everyone else
Just act like you do on here, most highschool student these days just like to act edgy and always think they know what they're talking about because they hold very strong opinions. Don't say anything that goes against sjw though you'll get fucked up real quick
Memes work well but make sure they're not too obscure, they have to be recent to reach a highschool audience
For reference I'm a senior right now

If only they made a new updated SD card standard without that switch. Maybe also make it more compact. A "micro" SD card if you will.
>>54309353
Course not. But I just had to get up my ass and search for an adapter that is tight enough to I can copy files on it. Thought I'd make a rage thread.
So I have been a mac user for some time and I am becoming increasingly dissatisfied. The hardware is crap. The software is lined with code so your device will crap. Mac is failing me and I want to know, is windows or linux better?
I'm a gamer and I'd like to know what lenox and dell are, they're hardware brands right? While mac and windows are software brands?
>>54309298
Mac and Windows are Operating Systems.
Windows isn't any better, only for video games, nothing else.
Linux doesn't offer much.
Dell is crap for everything but it's monitors and I have never heard of Lenox.
>>54309426
Aye but does windows have the same conversations surrounding it like mac does where the developers purposefully sabotage the computer device
>>54309298
But how many licks does it take to get to the center of a tootsie pop?
What are some practical new(ish) or forgotten about programming languages that have some quality that makes them unique.
Posting io for its simplicity and oop purity.
>>54309092
assembly
>>54309092
OCaml, ATS
Also, Rust.
>oop purity
kekkatus
Ruby woud be one such language, or Smalltalk which is actually the original OOP implementation.
It looks good and clean until you have to do siimple stuff that OOP makes overly complicated
Why do phone companies no longer do 2 year contracts?
>>54309023
because that was retarded and served no good purpose for the consumer
>>54309023
I think they still do, I just saw a commercial earlier

They are chasing frantically after consumer interests because of MVNO markets (ie contractless) increasing rapidly

I feel like im sitting on a bed of rusty nails.

I think you mean GNU/Rusty nail bed
Install f.lux and everything will become comfy.
Are these worth it over buying compressed air? How precise can they be?
They're worth it. They blow WAY stronger than any canned air can ever hope, and they'll last longer than thousands of dollars worth of cans as well.
I bought one while it was on sale for $50 or so, which happens routinely. They're probably on sale more than they aren't, actually.
I don't know about that specific one but I got a http://www.amazon.com/Metro-ED500-DataVac-500-Watt-Electric/dp/B001J4ZOAW and that shit is cash. You can get pretty precise with the attachments but the thing is so powerful that you wont even need precision. Make sure you zip tie your fans or stick a skewer or chopstick in it because you don't want them spinning as fast as this thing will get them going.
>>54308714
WOOOOOOOORRRTHHHHHHH IT.
Not that one specifically tho, like >>54308761
said
Sure it's expensive upfront($100), but man, you'll never have to buy a new can, it's not cold like the fucking cans, doesn't have the chance of liquid going on yyour shit, and it's strong as fuck.
Does /g/ mix different sticks of RAM?
I have some extra PC3U Samsung memory that I would like to use in computer as a RAM disk, and I am currently using regular PC3 Crucial Ballistix Sports memory.
What would happen if I inserted the different sticks?
lol are you stupid? it would work fine, as always
The only difference would be different access times but that would be unnoticeable.
>>54308606
I am not stupid, but remember, they could have different timings and shit.
Obviously PC3U could work with regular memory since the U just means more energy efficient.
I want to build a simple blog website, like this one.
http://www.dangerandplay.com/
I don't know anything about domain registration, or site creation. Is there an obvious resource out there that can lead me in the right direction?
Im Googling now but its just giving me shitty links to Wordpress etc
1&1 for domain & hosting
Google HTML tutorials
Google CSS tutorials
Write your shit in Brackets
Done
>>54308895
Is it true I won't own the domain if I get it through the host?
>>54308366
Start with this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cJxp_O5azc4 (code is here https://github.com/mackenziechild/blog_course_demo). mainly project contains disqus comments as your example. I hope I'll make soon something like youtube Mackenzie. Makes it in digital ocean(hoster) and pushes it to heroku. Payed only for domain and development. Site hosted on free heroku...Done.
