What's the best book to learn Perl? I'm not really fond of things that are online and the age of the book doesn't matter, just quality.
Thanks!
Oh, just to add. I know a few languages already, but I'd really like to learn Perl for *nix administration stuff that I'm doing.
just learn python you dumb ass

I can't say I didn't expect this.
Hello /g/, I don't post often but I wanted some advice regarding a purchase I hope to make soon.
I need a laptop for class, and have also been needing an upgrade on my desktop. Should I get a midrange laptop and upgrade the desktop separately, or get a high-end gayming laptop and kill two birds with one stone?
For reference, my current laptop is the lowest end Yoga 11e money can buy, and my current desktop is a prebuilt Dell with a clearance-aisle graphics card, i5-4460, and 16 gigs of DDR3 RAM.
>>54330948
if you're tight for cash, get a chromebook and put ubuntu on it via crouton. 16.04 is available now, so it's all updated. a good acer chromebook costs about $250
>>54330948
Are you wanting to be a normy with your macbook pro sitting at starbux doing your web dev?
>>54330948
whats your actual budget
also
>i5-4460, and 16 gigs of DDR3 RAM.
you dont need no new PC
maybe few upgrades, like SSD or higher tier GPU, but not a new desktop PC
>Windows doesn't have a package manager
What is your excuse, /g/?
>>54330812
No UTF-8 support in Powershell
Powershell ISE isn't fully compatible with programs that run in Powershell
The filesystem is slow as fuck
Cygwin is even slower
>>54330812
It does, it's called the Windows Store. And nobody uses it.
>>54330812
Simply ebin.
Comeback when you can rank mirrors and update the whole system in less than a couple of hours

What's the deal with huge plastic gamer mousepads? do these people move their mouse that much? it doesnt seem convenient
Yes, they actually do, at least if they play CounterStrike or similar games. You need to run a really low DPI to be accurate enough at a competitive level. Most players seem to prefer large cloth pads and not plastic, though.
>>54330562
>do these people move their mouse that much?
There are kids who don't have much muscle control or co-ordination. Fine movement skills are beyond them.
i do 3d modeling and dual monitor shenanegans on one of these
Is this smart data looking suspect?
>>54330492
Yes, it is showing signs of CP. You should probably get that fixed.
Here is a better tool for smart info, maybe no issue?
>>54330589
Every HDD gets some problems over time, unless the values get worse every day I wouldn't worry about them
Even if some tools show warnings, most HDDs are usually fine
I've got m hands on Compaq R1000h UPS.
I replaced old dead batteries and all seems to work fine, except it hisses.
I pinned the problem to the transformer.
Although it's barely audible, it's pretty anoying.
Do you guys had this problem with your UPSes?
I was considering dipping the transformer in polyexter resin under vacuum, but i'm afraid it's not the coils but magnetostriction, so it wouldn't help.
>>54330367
bemp?
>>54330367
Actually, it might.
You could also try tweaking the frequency the inverter works at to shift the resonance.
>>54330367
It's probably just old. Or shit.
Guys, do I have to be gay to own Apple products?
Before you say "wtf", I have been in the closet for 19 years, and do not plan on coming out. Yet, I want to get the new iPhone SE (perfect size!), and possibly a MacBook to replace my very aging Sony laptop, which had served me well.
If I go Apple, would that throw a shadow of suspicion upon me, making it even more difficult to hide my love for peenus?
Thanks!
If you're anything like this guy you can hide it for years.
The final straw would be getting hired at Google, where they'd force you to use a MacBook, among other things.
>>54330228
>too much of a faggot to come out of the closet
that's pretty gay desu senpai
>>54330228
Why hide it?
Stop bending down and accommodating the establishment.
DOWN WITH THE PATRIARCHY!!
APPLE PRYDE 4 LYFE!!!

Left but without the media parent folder.
why not symlink both?
>wangblows
Just group them by type.
In /g/s option what are the best budget smartphones from 2014 onwards? Bonus points for memory and screens. Pic unrelated
Xiaomi Mi 5
Xiaomi Mi Note
Alcatel One Touch Idol S (used it and loved it, only 99 bucks at the time and has a beautiful screen)
Alcatel One Touch Idol 3
Alcatel One Touch Idol 4
SD 650 redmi note 3
No downsides to processor, screen quality, build, voice quality, reception (I get 4G in my country) or battery
Software is personal preference, I like the amount of customization you can have with miui like app preferences and the various settings. Most unwanted apps can be disabled/uninstalled and Nova + GAPPs work perfectly fine
Only downsides are camera quality (no major concerns but low light is bad) and rear speaker
Hey /g/. I hope you guys still do vaping threads.
I did some research but all the sites are either outdated or rather irrelevant.
I'm trying to find a proper guide as to what to look for when shopping for a new vape.
I started on a nobacco epsilon650 that i bought on the spot having done no research whatsoever. it's pretty weak though and im going for a change now.
my budget is around 40 euros and i want something that will give good amount of vapor, for the money.
I'm clueless as to what works and what doesn't, can you...
Comment too long. Click here to view the full text.

Just look for anything that isn't a vape and buy that.

Pic related, happened a few mins ago. Just plugged into the electrical outlet and the a few seconds later a loud 'pop'. Lodged the shell of the capacitor into the far corner and shit allover the place like a feather pillow. Ended up sending my PTSD gf (who was also in the room) into a a short episode due to the sudden noise. Story time /g/. What's your electrical/technical fails

in December I got myself a little stereo vu meter board and components
the caps seemed a little dodgy but whatever, I soldered this shit anyway
after hooking it up to the laptop PSU 1 microfarad cap went straight into my eye, then I had to spend 4 hours in hospital waiting in line
I love electrolytic caps
