Alright im about to build my own PC for the first time and i did alot of research but im scared.
Heres the build im about the buy:
http://pcpartpicker.com/p/g96nsY
I will also buy a high speed HDMI cable and a CAT6 cable from the router to my bedroom.
What else do i need for tools or cables etc? I already have a no 2 non magnetic philips screwdriver.
What about a static wristband? Or thermal paste for on the CPU? Is all of that a waste of money?
Any constructive help is appreciated. Irony/sarcasm not welcome.
Wait for Polaris, their 480 outperforms the 980 for an expected price of $250
Static wristband only if you're mega paranoid/worried. All you do is wear it and attach it to your case to keep yourself grounded.
Make sure you have your case on a flat, hard surface. Also make sure if you're on carpet, you aren't wearing socks.
Make sure you install the risers (look like little screw holes that screw into your case) for the motherboard if they don't come pre-installed on your case.
Finally, aftermarket thermal paste or an aftermarket cooler is completely worth it. Both are extremely cheap, get some Arctic Silver 5...

Alright thanks.
But about the thermal paste, i heard you basically dont even need a cooler if youre not overclocking. So im getting a cooler anyway but not overclocking, so isnt the paste a little redundant?
Why do they call it a programming language if you make apps with it?

im not so sure you understand how stupid your question is

I wonder if Stallman read a thread just like this and that's why he called /g/ asinine.
What is your favorite WM and/or DE?
I like openbox

I like openbox too but right now my favorite is XFCE.

Scheme vs Haskell, which should I learn first? Why?
>>54398883
Haskell, it is a pure functional language, perfect for learning and you will focus only on functional programming. Scheme is not and it may complicate things

Great answer, thanks.
Hi /g/,
So I was just wondering about some Linux vs Windows bullshit. Say you had the game Garry's Mod or Counter Strike: Source on Linux and Windows. Which would have better fps? Can someone who plays both those games on both operating system, what is the FPS and how does it compare to each other?
bumpatron
I use to play Left 4 Dead 2 on my SandyBridge T420 laptop using the onboard Intel HD GPU. Source games run really well in Linux. I don't have side by side comparison, but I believe Valve made an effort to make them run faster than they would on Windows.
And how would you rate PlayOnLinux with League Of Legends vs the fps of League on windows?
/g/ i've tried google but couldn't find anything, is there anyway or place that sells perpetual license keys for autocad, i know as of 2016 its no longer offered but there has to be somewhere out there to obtain an old key?
Just use a .edu email
Also, Inventor is strictly superior to AutoCAD.
>>54398669
this is for a legit business, i don't want to deal with legal issues.
>>54398615
call up engineering or architecture companies in town, offer to buy a no-longer-used key to an older version for $50
Is malwarebytes free that has only scan and not real time capabilities discontinued and only a trial is available? I can't seem to find it
Learn English, fucktard.

What the fuck did you just say
I'm on a Linux system. I'm looking to settle down with a general purpose programming language for working on desktop applications of all sorts. From commandline to GUI, maybe even web apps to.
Trying to hone my craft to get hired on day, but not anytime soon. Just haveing fun for now.
So, shill me on your language of choice.
>inb4 meme langs and ded langs
*one
C is the best you can get on a *nix system. If you want something newer use C++ or maybe even Rust. But Rust is pretty limited library wise.
>>54398464
C, python
Anyone know what this part is called? It fell off my TV and I'm trying to fix it.
Nice index fingerprint you have there.

Why does /g/ sperg out over this shitty browser?
>Why the fuck do people use Firefox?
Because I like it.
haha epic post man
it just werks
So /g/ isn't it about time you organized that folder?
is this the new desktop thread?

I see functional programming being pushed here on /g/ more than anywhere else.
Why are people so obsessed with having zero side-effects when not even CPUs work like that?
Your computer is one giant state machine, after all.
>The Hurd status page states that "it may not be ready for production use, as there are still some bugs and missing features. However, it should be a good base for further development and non-critical application usage."
>The GNU Hurd is under active development. Because of that, there is no stable version. We mainly distribute the Hurd sources through Git. The latest release is GNU Hurd 0.7.

Now even Stallmanu uses Hurd. That should tell you something.

Rajesh, GNU has linux libre these days
Thank you Rajpeet. Another 10INR have been deposited into your account. Your continued support is noted.
Anyone need RAM?
Was cleaning out my great-grandfathers house and came across shittons of this RAM
Anyone on /g/ want it? I dont own a desktop so it's useless to me
>>54398123
You know, i do. Are you offering it for free, or is there a price?
>>54398123
>he fell for the upgrade man meme
>>54398154
The price would be whatever shipping is. The last time I gave stuff out for free on /g/ and paid for shipping people didn't even do the single thing that I asked: post unboxing pics of when it arrived.
sure mods that's fine delete the desktop threads they're killing this board, not all the tech support/build me a PC/shilling/blatant troll threads
doing a fine job, hope the pay (lol) is worth it
oh yeah and leave up homescreen threads too that's fine, it's not like they're the exact same thing or anything
>>54397961
I agree with the mods, desktop threads are barely technology and belong on >>>/w/
