>animated desktop wallpaper is still not a thing
explain this
>>54431948
Install Android ... I mean, Gentoo.
I had a animated desktop wallpaper on my Windows 98 computer when I was like 13

Why would you want some distracting shit eating up your battery life?
What does /g/ think?
Compared to a GTX 970 (3.5 lel), would it be a major upgrade?
What about the DX12 results, would it still suck vs Polaris?
It's faster than TITAN X/980 Ti so yeah, it's a pretty major upgrade over 970 but have to see the reviews first.
>>54431784
The show didn't really say anything about DX12 if I recall.
I'd say just wait for the benchmarks come in. You're already waiting a month for it, might as well give it a few weeks after that.
>>54431864
too low goym for that m8 r8 8/8
but still, should be big?
btw, what was that about it being faster than a TITAN X, 'cause some retard youtubers keep using it for either 1070 or 1080, which one was it truly for?
/g/'s opinion on Solaris? Is Oracle a botnet?
Not curious about using it day-to-day.
I use it for most of my *nix systems, I enjoy it.
Oracle's a real piece of shit though, shitting all over hobbyists and putting everything aside from the base system behind a paywall, including even shit like drivers for hardware even Sun wasn't supporting at the time of the buyout.
>>54431812
Doesn't looks so fake to me, unless you were using a bit of sed; I don't care though because it looks purty cool.
>>54432013
Thanks senpai
It's a bit of a kludge, you have to manually enter in hard disk specs and the CPU model still since I can't figure out how to get the info yet and the uptime display keeps fucking up for whatever reason.
What will it take for companies to stop hiring Pajeets?
>>54431433
For programming:
>more rigorous standards in certification
>higher reliance on aptitude tests for employers rather than certification
For tech support:
>shift from phone support to checking google and self-troubleshooting totally and completely

How many HDD have died on anons? The only one that Iv witnessed to die was a external portable HDD for all my back-files... yet the one I'v been using my my PC for 7 years is still going.
SSD will be in my comp sooner or later.
been using the same 1.5tb seagate for almost 10 years. sometimes it starts to click but then i just shake it and then it works again
I've only had a 320 gb maxtor drive die.
I'm still running a 10yo 160GB HDD on my crappy eee netbook I sometimes use (which saw heavy use years ago), don't know when it's gonna grenade itself but so far i haven't encountered any problems

Look in all the dictionaries.
There is no word for what we do.
It's not 'tradition', though our craft is timeless.
'Limitless' is too limiting.
'Enduring' is not enduring enough.
'Innovation' can only begin to describe it.
We sculpt, paint and explore.
But explorers, sculptors, and painters we are not.
This is the only thing we make.
The only thing we will ever make.
There is no word for what we do.
There is only a way.
The Rolex Way.

What is this kind of case considered to be, elegant or sporty? I don't understand, wasn't it used to make diving watches like Panerai and Rolex?

Is AMD finished? How will they compete?
>>54429965
is the 1080 a flagship card? i only buy flagships
>>54429990
it's the flagship _for now_
They won't, and can't. It's actually a huge problem. The 1070 beats out every AMD offering by a large margin and in almost every category, especially price / perf. Polaris is going to be midrange garbage. Fury X2 is a cop out / completely different market share (Xfire / SLI sucks anyway).
Remember when Sony was good?
>>54429261
Sony was never good except for it's gaming division.

C++ is a horrible language. It's made more horrible by the fact that a lot
of substandard programmers use it, to the point where it's much much
easier to generate total and utter crap with it. Quite frankly, even if
the choice of C were to do *nothing* but keep the C++ programmers out,
that in itself would be a huge reason to use C.
In other words: the choice of C is the only sane choice. I know Miles
Bader jokingly said "to piss you off", but it's actually true. I've come
to the conclusion that any programmer that would prefer the project to be
in C++ over C is likely a programmer that I really *would* prefer to piss
off, so that he doesn't come and screw up any project I'm involved with.
In other words, the only way to do good, efficient, and system-level and
portable C++ ends up to limit yourself to all the things that are
basically available in C. And limiting your project to C means that people
don't screw that up, and also means that you get a lot of programmers that
do actually understand low-level issues and don't screw things up with any
idiotic "object model" crap.
So I'm sorry, but for something like git, where efficiency was a primary
objective, the "advantages" of C++ is just a huge mistake. The fact that
we also piss off people who cannot see that is just a big additional
advantage.
If you want a VCS that is written in C++, go play with Monotone. Really.
They use a "real database". They use "nice object-oriented libraries".
They use "nice C++ abstractions". And quite frankly, as a result of all
these design decisions that sound so appealing to some CS people, the end
result is a horrible and unmaintainable mess.
are there any books on modern c++ for people who are already familiar with programming? Also are there any books that describe the theory of oopm?
>>54428730
Object oriented programming is dead
Lisp and Haskell killed it
>>54428712
Them consulting opportunities tho...
Who uses it except Pajeets?
Off yourself.

I use it, it's pretty good. I wouldn't choose any other language over it in my projects (except maybe kotlin but they are interoperable so who cares)
I don't know what else to say

It's not 7.5, it's 4 + 3.5. Get it right.
>>54428485
Oh for fuck sake, a 1070 is a 1080 with imperfections and cutdown. Would you want 7.5 or 7? Having .5 less doesn't matter at 6+ yet either
