Why there isn't an OS with the best of every OS?
Like Winux OS X?
As easy as windows, supports exe files of Windows, Mac OS X and Linux (and Android apps), as good looking as Mac OS X and as good working on servers as Linux

Haha there are no positives for OSX, had to make one up.
Which is the best GNU/Linux distro?
I've been using Mint with cinnamon casually with my laptop some time, and I'd like to take a step forward
looks like bait, but I'll bite.
Go with Debian, only distro you will ever need.
>inb4 install gentoo
>inb4 arch
install templeOs
Trisquel GNU+Linux
ITXfags, do you have to use a low profile cooler, or can you fit a full-sized cooler in some cases?
I want to change my existing i2500K setup to ITX, you can still get boards off eBay
>>54560250
I have that case and I use a noctua c12p
>>54560250
Depends on the case you nigger. If you use the Prodigy you can use the NH-D14.

What are your thoughts on the GRUB bootloader?
free as in freedom
It never just seems to work out of the box on all the shitty laptops my classmates seem to buy. Never had an issue myself, just werks.
it might be my dying HDD bit I still feel like grub is shit. Never had boot issues with Windows
Anyone on /g/ use NFC wireless payment, either through their phone or directly on a card? I've pretty much given up on it.
>banks no longer issue physical cards with the wireless chips in the US
>Apple Pay only allows you to add eight cards total, meaning I can't add all my credit and debit cards
>Android Pay has extremely limited bank support
>even when you do have a card it's slow to open the wallet and pick the correct oneComment too long. Click here to view the full text.
>>54559919
I use apple pay when I can, which is maybe a couple times a month because most places I shop don't have an nfc reader
seems somewhat pointless still
>>54559919
contactless cards are not using nfc you fucking retards.
>>54559919
I use Samsung Pay. Works on most every existing card reader (except the insert and remove type).
Hi /g/,
I recently purchase a cheapish IP camera off Amazon which is pretty good apart from one thing, the login/ menu/ GUI isn't HTTPS.
How much of a security issue is this if my general network security is bretty good to start with?
Also IP security general. Not enough of these threads.
Pic related: a pretty sweet set up.

It's fine unless it faces the internet.
Just join it to the open webcams group.
>>54560325
And if it does face the internet, is this an inherent risk if the admin username and password are changed from default?

Not sure what private trackers are all about?
>The mission of /ptg/ is to promote the highest possible standards of tracker service by providing members with opportunities for professional development, by recognizing technical competence through examinations and by advancing the interests of its members.
Check out the wiki and update it yourself if you want more instead of complaining like a fucking faggot. https://wiki.installgentoo.com/index.php/Private_trackers

What's a better career (in any field at all) than software engineer?
Op follow your dreams. If you're just trying to get a paycheck then you're going to have a bad time.

Are there any that support CDDA audio?
So how are ultrawide monitors? mainly for gaming
I know windows is pretty shitty with resoultions higher than 1440p how is it with handling different aspect ratios?
also if buying a monitor in 2016 should i be looking for a freesync or gsync model or is that just a meme
>>54559702
Pretty decent. Got one myself, it's a nice resolution for Workingand for newer games if you're interested. The biggest plus is that it's not that much more expensive compared a normal full hd IPS monitor.
Would recommend.
But I've got to say, you might want to get a 25 inch monitor and it doesn't seem like a very big screen due to the aspect ratio so you might want to get a 29 Inch.

>I know windows is pretty shitty with resoultions higher than 1440p
How come? Do you mean 1920x1440?
They're nice, but a hit too pricey still.
I have one at 1440p and a second 16:9 1440p.
I use them both for music production and the 16:9 for anime and IMAX movies (the uktrawide one for movies).

They can, that's why they're taking all your jobs doing what American coders do for less.
They're to programming what chinks are to manufacturing - cheap and good enough
What is the problem with calibre?
what is the best fsf approved distro?
windows 10

Isn't MSDOS open source now?
Is ddr4 memory a meme? How many of you actually own ddr4?
>>54559079
It is forced by Intel and upcoming AMD processors. It's a dead on arrival technology, but you don't have a choice if you upgrade your hardware.
>>54559079
16GB DDR4 owner here because I bought Intel i7 Extreme Edition Processor.
>>54559079
For mini-ITX users it's the only way to get 32GB (16GB x 2 slots).
