What would be the best distro for a normie like me?
All im going to use Linux for is browse the ebin internet, shitpost on 4chan, watch YouTube Videos .. communicate with friends on Steam/Skype.
I am aware that Skype for Linux is utter garbage cause of the microsoft jew.
How can i install it in a dual boot type of meme so i can switch back to the botnet whenever i need to.
Thanks /g/
t. Normie
1. install windows
2. shrink windows partion by some 100GB
3. install linux, it will allow you to install side by side
go for xubuntu
Arch senpai
Antergos if you are lucky
What is this shit on the motherboard?

Wuz gud /g/s, any networkfags lurking?
TL;DR:
>block all incoming and outgoing traffic
>except for a handful of programs plus the package installer / updater
>???
>profit
Is this possible with iptables without white/shitlisting specific IPs/ports, like can you just say allow programs XYZ to do whatever and drop everything from any IP destined for any port that isn't coming or going to or from programs XYZ?
If not what's the closest thing / way to make this happen?
>pic unrelated
>>54605598
start with a "block all" rule and go from there
if you really want your progs to accept any port you should set up a DMZ to redirect incoming connections to transient ports 49512-65536 on the LAN
it's really retarded to configure a firewall with "app X can do anything" and may not be possible in iptables
>>54605676
Shieeet, bit too advanced for me my nigga, or maybe not, like what would i have to specifically whitelist in order for a browser, torrent client, and the package manager to just werk while errything else gets fukken dropped.
And i might have misspoke in the OP, by >do anything i meant just work normally, not have access to any port or stuff like that.
>>54605739
whitelist all outgoing traffic and ur apps will work
the config will look like:
block in all
allow out all
a DMZ is simply a machine connected to the internet running a firewall. it's useful if you want 1 computer to be your point man on the net, and have him pass messages to little guys in yr apartment (if you want to ssh into yr laptop for example).
the DMZ says "here i am, this is for you." the shell server says "tanks, here's my response" and the DMZ...

Remember those holographic discs everyone was talking about back in the 2000s that could store terabytes of data on one disc and was supposed to be the successor to Blu-ray? What happened to those?
>>54605596
probably too large/expensive/impractical
>>54605596
lost the war with blu-ray
>>54605596
Useless now that we have streaming services like Netflix and Amazon Prime going 4K and gigabit internet. The Roku 4 and the Amazon Fire TV support 4K.
Optical media is toast.
Exynos 9 is being fabbed on 10nm process right now to be used on Galaxy Note refresh coming in Late August/September time frame.
Snapdragon 830 will also start production soon on Samsung's 10nm process.
It appears Intel's manufacturing advantage has all but evaporated.
Samshit's 10nm is just only reaching Intel's 14nm in feature size
But hey, keep falling for the meme I guess
>>54605254
>It appears Intel's manufacturing advantage has all but evaporated.
Intel's manufacturing advantage lies in the fact that they can make high performance chips, while Samsung's process is optimized for low power phone chips.
>>54605268
>no production sample available to outside research firms to determine whether feature sizes on Samsung's 10nm node is smaller or larger than Intel's 14nm node

is 802.11ac a meme wireless standard since 802.11n is both good enough and inexpensive enough for most users?
Yes.
Yes it is.
>>54605210
AC has better range, penetrating power, and throughput speeds. If you need this that N doesn't offer you, then you go with AC.
The next wireless standard is likely to be a meme since we don't need one after that for probably a few more years at least.
802.11ac isn't expensive though, you can get a gigabit router for under $50, there's no excuse
maybe for web browsing it's fine but for data transfers or streaming, especially streaming games (to things like steam link or nvidia shield), there's definitely a huge difference. If you live alone and only web browse no reason to upgrade though.
Is it a good idea to use gloves for handling technology equipment? Does anyone use some?
>>54604907
I only use Gloves when coming near my precious IBM ThinkPads in my Tempreture controlled and UV Lightless echo chamber.
Looks like the J key grew a god damned pimple.

I have shit Comcast so I can't run my own server. An affordable VPS will probably have the IP blacklisted. I don't want to use Google or Microsoft to host. Aside from the street shitting Zoho seems like it would be ok for personal email. Unless it's not?
It's finee~

That's basically it, I'm thinking of probably just watching you tube and shit, nothing hardcore.
I'm pretty hyped rn.
Will a 6 inch phone fit in it?

You can install linux mint after watching a 5 minute howto on youtube.
Nice going if you get through it though.

Would an Intel Skylake i5 6600k perform well enough over an AMD FX-8350 to justify the extra money spent between the chip/mobo/ddr4?
I am looking to upgrade from my A10 (seeing as I now have an R9 380) and am not really sure.
I5 6600k is a great processor, far away from the 8350. It's near the i7 4790k. Upgrade only if it's worth the extra pay for a decent motherboard and ddr4. Fx 8350 is doing well too
>>54603785
I would choose the fx as it is well appropriated for a r9 380
The 8000 and rarely the 6000 (FX series) are pretty good chips.
Cheap.
Yes.
Better that Intel
Barely worse.
I would go for an 8000 series because you can get a better mobo/ram
