Why do people pay for Windows when you can install a superior Unix-like operating system for free, or buy devices that have far better build quality than any Windows computer that come with an actual superior Unix operating system?
>>54726669
Because they are either poor or do not care.
>>54726669
It takes more effort that could be spent playing angry birds or farmville
Because it is impossible to get a PC without Windows at any retail store?

/g/, I am so irritated and I have no idea what I can do.
I had a laptop computer whose parts were actually falling apart at the seams (left hinge was completely broken; we found small pieces of the plastic from it scattered throughout the case. It was bad.) and last night I put all of the survivable parts of it into the case of another computer. Everything seemed pretty okay last night, sans the processor being a little iffy, but I survived.
Today, I wake up and open my computer and I have this "activate windows" thing on the corner of my screen that won't...

when will fvwm finally be replaced with spectrwm in openbsd
isn't spectrwm developed by openbsd devs? who the fuck uses the dead gay fvwm version it ships with
>>54728189
I know, this has always baffled me. I mean why not at least ship the latest fvwm, which is actually pretty good. It's available as a package, so why not just update the one in base?
>>54729591
i guess they probably put too much work into their own variant
but still, they could at least try to move it a little
what are some good NON butane lighters? I dont care too much about price either, but try to keep it around 50 dollars and below.
I like cigars, and i like the butane lighters i use but i want a nice large flamed lighter that is a more natural flame

Does such a thing even exist? What does it use for fuel?

Can you recommend me a new 24-27" display, /g? I'm still using sammy T260 that I bought back in 2008... seems to be ok for my use case. What are the current trends in display tech? From what I hear 4k and all this curved bs is pretty gimmicky. Is it even worth it to upgrade at this point?
Forgot about budget: $500.

What are your opinions on the new iteration of Project Ara? Is true smartphone modularity an unobtainable pipe dream?
Maybe not a pipedream but it seems like new phones are so cheap in the first place that the project lost its luster. Why would you need an upgradeable phone when so many carriers are practically giving phones away now a days? It would have been more sensible if phones prices had skyrocketed and a new phone was $1500.
>>54724884
It's not upgradeable in the since of cpu, gpu, ram etc
It just has module space which I am hyped for
>>54724986
What if I told you the CPU/GPU/RAM is upgradable, you just have to buy a new frame
Can this retarded "durr botnet" meme please end?
There's literally NOTHING wrong with Windows 10.
Also the stupid "hurr it upgrades without your permission" thing. Everybody knows it doesn't and that's the dumbest anti-MS propaganda I've ever seen.

Have something that you are trying to interface with a computer that isn't normally supposed to interface with one?
>pic related
My first project with this sort of thing.
It's a portable TV set unable to receive over the air broadcast anymore. What exactly were you wanting to do here? You would need a PC capture card most likely with coax I/O. Does that thing even have RCA jacks?
I haven't done much research yet to be honest but my overall goal would be to interface it with my computer to use it as a spectrometer for currently playing music. If not.. somehow use an arduino to program the knobs in the front to create different frequencies.
What's a good desktop environment that's not GNOME? Not looking for a window manager (too much hassle fiddling with scripts), GNOME 3 feels too much like a toy DE and I'm looking for something that looks a bit more professional and minimalistic.

Welcome to /fglt/. We are always open to users of all levels, including absolute beginners.
There are four ways to try GNU/Linux, you can:
0) Install a GNU/Linux OS on a VM (Virtual Machine/VirtualBox) for "safety purposes"
1) Use the Live ISO directly without installing anything, that way, you can get a "full GNU/Linux experience".
2) Dual-boot GNU/Linux with Windows/Mac (recommended if you want to learn more about GNU/Linux)
3) Go balls...
