I think the worst part about slack is that it can't scale for shit. That is what really buffdles me about the whole situation.
I use slack to talk with former coworkers in rooms, it works pretty good for us
>>54762853
I had never previously considered that, but you're right.
Things like Slack are responsible for devaluing the US dollar desu.
Why does all the good Damn routers look like jet fighters with 12 antennas now?! Can we discuss good routers that don't fall in the Meme category?
They invaded and disguised themselves as routers. Such an easy way to infiltrate homes.

This doesn't look so bad.

Are HDD palters aligned?
As in, if (in a clean rom and proper equipment yada yada) I rotated one OF TWO platters 30 degrees on its axis, would it be unreadable?
I have access to a clean room and a donor hdd; , and I was going to replace the reading head, but the idiot of me decided to replace the platters instead, but I didn't considered that they might be aligned....
when it hit me I sealed the hdd again and decided to do more research before proceeding....
p.s. the original m/b is fine, I tested it on other hdd (I did swap firmware chip).

>>54762637
Yes. This is why you shouldn't even bother switching them out if there is more than one.

What did he mean /g/
he didn't say that
gnu/linux was a mistake
He meant the $4.7 million spent on the windows in his $50+ million home was a mistake, could have just used less windows and saved a few bucks in the process.

>>54762396
Design then code, but accept that your design will be flawed and you'll have to change some things.
Design should take about 90% of the time, while implementation takes the other 90%.

Would it be possible to have a mini vm running in the background on Linux so when you try to run an exe it'll just run like on windows, but through the vm that's always active in the background? Similar to wine, but instead of a compatibility layer it'll be more like an OS layer.
So pretty much it'll be
>Linux os
>windows vm active in background but inactive to prevent it taking system resources
>when...

Would it be dumb for an individual to acquire a 970 with the 1070 release so close?
there will be a pricedrop in the 970.

Depends on the price, but probably. Especially with Polaris coming out in a few weeks as well.
>>54762199
You can get it for liek 230$ maybe so no , its a good idea for 1080p.

Hey /g/, I'm switching from Windows to Fedora, and was just wondering what the best software is to replace Microsoft Office. The issue is that my university only accepts .doc or .docx files, and I don't want to spend time fixing the format between open/Libreoffice and Word. I was thinking of using Google Docs via chrome, but I want to make sure I can work offline. Any suggestions?
Thanks in advance!
>>54762091
I haven't had any issues with libre office, though other anons may contradict me.
Another, albeit more basic, option is abiword, and there's also open office.
Has anyone tried running Microsoft office in wine?
>>54762112
OP here. I researched it, and you can definitely run Office '07, but (and I know this is a technicality) my school gives me a copy of Office 2010, which doesn't run well via wine.
>>54762091
libreoffice works fine most of the time
office365 should work fine
installing word into a VM or wine
I run my university provided office in a Windows 8.1 VM so I don't spend time fucking around with this stuff
I still use Linux everyday for my personal computing, but Its easier to just use Windows for my university work
If a government agency is monitoring your internet behaviour, do VPNs really make a material difference? Data packets still travel to and through your ISP's internet infrastructure. Let's assume that this hypothetical government agency can circumvent any encryption. How would one, to the best of their ability, hide his online activity?
>>54762055
use burner 3g sim cards and break into wifi, also, possibly building and hiding proxy bouncers in various public locations that you can use.
that said:
>circumvent any encryption
lol, k
>circumvent any encryption
>hide his online activity
Build your own network
99/100 times VPNs will give out your information on serious government request
the 1/100 cases that avoid that, probably already have agency workarounds
avoiding active detection by the largest agencies is quintessentially impossible, but that's if they already consider you a figure of interest.
just don't be one.
datamining, mass surveillance and honeypots can be evaded with Common Senseâ„¢ and tradecraft, but tradecraft is also what outs you as an object of suspicion (especially by the DoJ nowadays)
tl;dr dont do anything suspicious or suspiciously...
