Reminder that you should build a strength foundation before going for aesthetics.

Starting Strength is the answer.
>>
>>36827714
Here's the thing. You say that, and I'm constantly told by /fit/ that "you need a strength base" or that "it's all about progressive overload brah" but you know what?

Every built guy in the gym does shit like chest flyes and bicep curls. I hardly ever see guys who are actually built doing autistic shit like pendlay rows and deadlifts, it's only the quiet skinny autists who go at midnight who bother with that stuff.

>hurr roids hurrr
SURE, some of them might use gear, but I know for a FACT that not all of them do. I can remember when I was in MIDDLE SCHOOL there were 13 year old KIDS who were swoler than most men, what, you think they were on roids?

Face it, it's fucking genetics that matter. Not routine, not protein intake, not even progressive overload. Yeah, sounds like some tumblr landwhale whining, but it's so fucking obviously true that I just can't deny it anymore. We hit the GYM HARD, while Chad eats pizza.

those guys are trying to be pretty, with their pumps and their squeezes and their flexing. they are actually pretty fucking girly. physiques built that way look almost random, too - its like their body is a collection of random muscle, not a functioning and aesthetic unit.

now, find me a guy who built his body using heavy compounds who looks like this (who has low bodyfat). chances are he'll look pretty fucking good.

if you want to look good in a tshirt and have people comment on your meaty arms while you suffer chronic back pain from all your imbalances, go ahead, but i don't really consider that to be a worthy goal in any sense. much better to be as strong as you look and to look powerful and sculpted, not to look like a poor man's jeff seid.

Just so you know....
In a real progression program, and not the meme usage of /fit/, hypertrophy comes before strength. So how could your base come from strength when strengths base is based off hypertrophy. I'm sorry but progressive overload is a fundamental principle that cannot be violated or there will be no gains, neither in strength nor size or anything else for that matter. That said, there are many ways of achieving progressive overload and a lot of times it sort of happens automatically without people worrying about it at all. But it must happen or you'll just be spinning your wheels.

The "strength base" thing is bullshit though. Sure if you're stronger it's easier to build more mass but the opposite is equally true - if you're bigger it's easier to build more strength. It goes both ways.

THIS IS ABSOLUTELY BULLSHIT

First, you should work on technique (hight sets, low reps, light weights), then you need strength endurance (2-3x12-15), then you need mass gains (3-4x8-12) and only then strength training. This is common approach of hundreds really good coaches.

Also, I remind you that Ripp is a mediocre powerlifter and a bad coach whose "specialization" is beginners training, lol.

>First, you should work on technique (hight sets, low reps, light weights), then you need strength endurance (2-3x12-15), then you need mass gains (3-4x8-12) and only then strength training

That depends entirely on what you're training for. The approach you describe is common and it is effective, but whether it's necessary or optimal depends on what you're trying to achieve. And even then it's still just one way of doing things.

Frequent full body routines are the best way to Gainsville for new lifters, period.

The fact that you think that is such a strange statement shows how much of a faggot you really are.
>>
>>36840632
Literally who does this? Strength is gained primarily through adaptions in the nervous system, so there is no point in worrying about hypertrophy first if strength is your goal. Even if your goal is hypertrophy though, fast twitch muscle fibers are what have the most growth potential and those are best stimulated with heavy weight. The only ones who benefit from high reps first are roided up bodybuilders who might injure themselves if they rush into heavy weight.
>>
>>36841301
That SS is the best beginner program, and everyone that lifts agreed on that. It's because SS has perfect linear progression and is perfectly balanced. Every day the main lifts consists of a squat/push/pull movement

SS has a lot of pulling and overhead pressing, which should help prevent the classic shoulder problems some people get from only benching every time they go to the gym.

And the SS squatting style balances work between quads, hams, glutes, and adductors which helps prevent the knee problems people sometimes get from more quad-dominant squatting styles.

I didn't disagree about frequent full body workouts with linear progression being the best for novices. But I do disagree about SS being the best routine out there.
Almost everybody needs to hit their upper body about twice as much as their lower, to see the same rate of progress. And SS doesn't take that into account.
>inb4 read the book
Yeah I've read the book, and adding chinups every 6th workout won't change the fact that you squat twice as much as you The Press/bench, and don't even get me started on this "1 set of deadlift every 4th workout".

>>36841337
Not sure if trappy-chan with trip off, or simply troll.
>perfect linear progression and is perfectly balanced
Not perfectly balanced, cf first part of this post.
Also not perfect linear progression. Even rip himself doesn't prescribe SS to the letter. After a few weeks, every other squatting session is a light, recovering one. Proving that even the gyno dino himself knows you can't add 5lb to your squat 3 times a week, after a few weeks/months.
Yes, even with GOMAD.

I'm not saying SS is bad. I'm saying that there is absolutely no consensus on it being the best beginner routine. SS does some things right and some things wrong.
It doesn't incorporate periodization. It has a low specificity for a powerlifting program (squat to DL ratio is 6:1 when it should be 2:1, squat to bench ratio if 2:1 when it should be 1:2). It doesn't give you any tools to deal with individual differences etc (stalling? keep stalling for 2 more workouts then deload by a shit-metric-ton). Etc.

Greyskull LP, for instance, is far superior.
>>
>>36841337
>everyone that lifts agreed on that
in your imagination
>>
>>36841528
>didn't disagree about frequent full body workouts with linear progression being the best for novices.
This was my only point.

I can't agree or disagree that other similar routines are better or worse but it's easy for us to discuss because we've already been through it. Hindsight and all that.

Noobs just need to go in the gym consistently, eat half way decent and do a similar routine to SS for gains.

Constantly looking for the "best" (subjective btw) like looking for gear in video games takes away from actually doing your best in the gym, IMO. Constantly wanting change your routine and diet for the new best this and that is circlejerking. Just go in and try your best the rest is fluff

can you shut the fuck up

Do you clean and snatch? If not GTFO and don't use this terminology. Deadlifts are not pulling in sense of opposite to upper body pressing movements

We talked about lack of upper body lifts, idiots.

>SS has lack of arm work
>NO IT HAS TONS OF PULLING - DEADLIFTS AND POWER CLEANS!!!!! EVERYBODY KNOW THAT PULLING IS ARM WORK!!!1111
>>
>>36841970
no one is talking about upper body lifts in that quote chain. only squat/push/pull

you started going full autismo and strawmanning
>>
>>36833952
I guarantee you he still gets laid but still lmfao i have better genetics than this cunt and they arent even good

He has me beat in the face department tho
>>
>>36841970
Bench and The Press works triceps (and triceps make up the majority of upper arm mass)
Deadlift and power cleans works forearms

If you're worried about biceps, just throw in a few sets of chin-ups and/or curls at the end of the workout.

And deadlift is both an upper and lower body exercise. It works the entire posterior chain, from the neck to the calves
>>
>>36841993
what a retard, lmao

>>36841337
>SS has a lot of pulling and overhead pressing, which should help prevent the classic shoulder problems
Now tell me how deadlifts should prevent shoulder problems.

SS has lack of upper body pulling and it is big cons.

>girl in first pic
>alone in the second

oh, /fit/
>>
>>36842030
Deadlift works the entire back, including all the antagonist muscles of those used in the bench press. Therefore, it balanced out the bench press and prevents shoulder problems caused by too much benching

>inb4 the back is not part of the upper body

SS and lifting for strength shill here. Pic related was from doing SS and then TM.

Just don't suck
>>
>>36842210
Same here. Always lifted for strength. Just heavy ass compounds, plus some ab work and curls once a week. One of the biggest guys in the gym, while those faggots doing 2 hour arm workouts stay exactly the same size for years.
>>
>>36842210
why did your gf leave you?
>>
>>36842311
>implying he didn't eat her for gains
>>
>>36842298
People on /fit/ don't get that there's more to looking good than an hour of lifting 3 times a week and sitting on your computer the rest of your time.

>>36842311
I broke up with her after a year of trying the long distance thing once I had to move for work. We still talk and smash every once in a while when our paths cross. Top lass

I think he means diet (and genetics)
>>
I am referring to things like diet, living a semi active lifestyle and not just being a NEET, proper utilization of accessories work, cardio (yeah, I said it), etc.

This guy gets it.

But Greyskull LP gives you a more proportional physique

Progress is kinda slower but it's worth it not becoming some Prehistoric Chicken
>>
Why does FACE, HEIGHT, FRAME guy type like Chris Chan?
>>
>>36827890
>Face it, it's fucking genetics that matter. Not routine, not protein intake, not even progressive overload.
Well, there is nothing wrong with doing a beginner full body routine then. You are contradicting your self you fucktard
>>
Literally face is the only thing that matters. If you have at least a 9/10 face you're set.
>>
People trolling or are you guys just talking?

If you go to any of Rippetoe's seminars, you will see that most of the people there are not beginners.
>>
>>36841995
Oh but I'm sure he's getting laid, the point I was trying to make is that he isn't some sort of superior 1 percentile male. It's all all angles/lighting/shoop.
>>
>>36844415
>If you go to any of Rippetoe's seminars, you will see that most of the people there are not beginners.

Then why do they go to a STARTING strength seminar?
