for a beginner, would be better to do a push up progression first (leaving the press for ohp)

Sometimes I use a weighted vest but there's only so much you can load into one of those.

Any anons know if there's something you can use to help put plates on your back? I prefer to lift at home but I live alone so no lift buddy to help ;_;

Depending on your living arrangements, I recommend a pulley system. Can also be used for triceps pull-downs.

Do knuckle press-ups. So make a fist then do the press-ups.

Protects your wrists and makes your skin toughen up on your hands so you can fight better.

My buddy has a nice little home gym in his basement with rings set up. When I train their on the occasion Ill do weighted ring pushups. Absolutely destroys your chest and tris. Rings are superior to most thing in regards to developing the upper body though. Dips, pullups, muscles ups ect. Gymnastic rings are just fantastic.

Also it's not too hard to lie on the ground and grab a plate, position it on your back and then do pushups. Anymore than a 45 though and it's a bit too much effort.

By fully pro and retracting your scapula you will work the antagonists (middle trap, rhomboids, one of the -scapularis muscles) and synergists (serratus, the other -scapularis) to the pecs in a proper enough proportion to avoid impingements by having the pec minor pulling the shoulder forward at the AC joint.


You can get the same general effect by "bending the bar" and balancing with pulls, but since the arm really moves along all three planes, the curve of a push up (or push away, as in a tire flip) gets closer to the mark

In reality it isn't that big of a deal unless you have rotation issues of an existing impingement

No. I do my chest routine, which is barbell bench, dumbbell incline, flys, barbell decline and dips. Afterwards I do three sets of push-ups to failure and I definitely don't need any extra weight after all that lel
