>>

>>

>>
>>37966919
the press is a shitty movement that uses momentum

80kg is my highest single
60kg for 10.

BW is 90kg so I'm close (but not really because 10kg is a fuckload for The Press)

I can push press bw at least, but its just an ego thing.
>>
75lbs for 8 reps
I can't advance because I bench before I The Press™

Sorry, should add I've been lifting 4 years.
>>
55 for 5 reps @75kg bw, what should my 1RM be? Never tried.
>>
I was doing 125 for reps before I got injured in construction :(
>>
>>37966919
I'm pathetic and can't even rep half a plate.
Why is this shit so much harder than bench.

Press RM1 130kg
>>
>>37966972
Same boat. Strict press form, no bounce from the clavicle.
135lb 3x10
160lb 3x5
185lb 3x1

I'm not stalling yet though, still moving up in 5lb increments every third workout. Currently doing 3x5 programming.

Just started doing press (didn't have a shoulder day before) and got 35x8. Feels bad man
>>
>>37966919
1pl8 lmao
>>
200 at a bw of 255.
Yeah I know, but I've never maxed and I only ohp after my deadlifts.

Also, how does everyone else get their weight into position without a bench .I have to power clean it.
>>
>>37966972
90kg here too

87.5 kg was my best single and was going for 90k next session
BUT
couldn't bw ThePress(TM) because I injured my shoulder benching after that

I'm doing 80kg 4x4 now. Going up again slowly.

3 years liftan

we're gonna make it anon

Recovering skeletor here, started with the bar and went up to 30kg after 3 months with very small increments

This is the one lift where I feel like I really gained strength as I remember this weight feeling impossible
>>
t-the bar, started last week
>>
>>37966954
It doesn't use any more momentum than any other lift unless you do it wrong
>>
>>37967249
>what is a squat/power rack
>>
If you count the bar, 31 kg Aka 62 lbs aprox @ 64kg bw. Feels actually good cause my first time at gym (4 months ago) I was struggling with just the bar
>>
185x1 at 170lbs bw
>>
160 for 3x5
Not sure what happened, but a month ago I was at 175 for 3x5 with no issues, and I've just been going down since then
>>
Weigh 195 bench 280lbs x4. Goal is 300 by January
>>
>>37967695
Try working with dumbells more, and do flies if you already don't
>>
Hit 50kg for 2 reps last week.
My best bench is 85kg for two reps for reference, but I think my technique is better there, plus I've just done more bench overall.
>>
>>37967665
Something I don't have and the thing I asked others about.

My question was how do people without them get the weight into position.
I'd probably be able to lift more if I didn't have to power clean it into position Yeah I know doing them after 3 sets of heavy deadlifts isn't helping it either.
>>
>>37967695

>>

1rm is 70kg.

Best 3 reps was at 65kg.

Target is 100kg.

I've begun looking at ways of trying to get it higher but in all honesty its just a matter of small increments.
>>
>>37966919

do you guys do rippetoe's bounce press or do you do regular straight up press

i started today and i'm basically starting with 65 lbs.

pretty embarrassing but i'm going slow to assure i dont get hurt

90kg. Hit it when max testing last week. Pretty stoked 'cause I'm finally over BW (88kg) with it.
>>
>>37968663
no I don't cheat
>>
lmao2plate for 1

Pressing heavy gives me elbow tendonitis though so I don't max out often.
>>
>>37967170
please be kg
>>
>>37968847
I.e. Rippetoe's breathe at the top bounce at the bottom press, not rippetoe's contental kipping press.
>>
>>37969043
yeah rippetoe changed method in one of the editions of the SS book, IIRC the 3rd.
fuck the new method.
>>
>>37969315

i've never seen any serious lifter do it like ripp teaches, and it's super hard to do with heavy weights

i think i read somewhere it's just a teaching method to automatically get you into the correct position, even though it's exaggerated, and when you go heavy you don't even notice it, all you see is tight glutes and a high/big chest.
>>
>>37966919
The hip bounce shit rip suggests in that video doesn't seem to help. Am i doing it wrong?

I did 50kg for 3 sets of 5 today (110lbs)
>>
>>37966972
same, I could do 70 for 1 with a little hip drive but it doesnt feel good at all, I could never roid with that mentality
>>
>>37967170
>>37968986
He has a "shoulder day" what do you think m8?
>>
>>37969454

you need full body tension when pressing so you don't get energy "leaks" anywhere in the kinetic chain

1. grab the bar like rip suggests, i.e. at the base of your hand. squeeze it super hard just like bench to keep wrist and forearm in line

2. squeeze your shoulder blades while pushing your chest up when you unrack the bar, again like bench

3. keep elbows in front of the bar/close to your body to engage your lats

4. tighten your glutes AND quads and press

5. shrug at the top of the press or you might shoulder issues

6. also breathe at the top and not the bottom

nothing else to it
>>
>>37969509
>when you unrack the bar
There's only one place to rack it and it's usually in use so i just clean it into position lel
>>
reminder to clean the weight and do it OUTSIDE of the squat rack

>people assume you're gonna deadlift babyweights
>or that you have a mediocre row
>but surprise surprise, you lift it over your head
>>
>>37969509
feet shoulder width or one foot forward?
>>
>>37969588

feet fairly wide with toes pointed slightly outwards, (similar to squat) for maximum stability, but whatever works, not one foot in front though
>>
>>37969550
>deadlifting in the squat rack
>acceptable
>>
>>37966972
that's some kind of sissy squat, RIP cuff rotator
>>
>>37966954
Only if you're doing a push press.
>>
>>37969633
hack squat

sissy squat is different
>>
>>37969606
thats how i usually do it, but ive seen people with foot in front like theyre chest pressing a medicine ball or something, just curious. Thanks anon
>>
My OHP is much lower than all of my other lifts. Is this normal of someone who's only been lifting about a month now? It's just obnoxious that I can add about 5-10lbs a week to everything except for my OHP.
>>
>>37969723

It's teh first compound you usually stall on, and you can't even expect a 5lbs increase each workout, you have to drop it to half that when approaching 1pl8 OHP, sometimes earlier, sometimes later.
>>
>>37969723
Yes, it's completely normal. It's the hardest lift to progress with. Most people struggle with linear progression very quickly.
>>
>>37969723
It's normal for everyone. It has a huge kinetic chain and comparatively weak muscles vs stuff like quads and glutes. Bench makes up for it through the hugely reduced kinetic chain
>>
80kgx5
>>
>>37966919

185lbs 1RM. That was a couple of weeks ago though. Probably 190-195lbs now.
>>
totally strict: 160 lbs
with hip movement (rippetoe style) THE PRESS: 175
push press: 225.
>>
I can only do 65lbs at the moment ;-;
I'm 5'10 and 160 lbs but I just started lifting like a month ago. Before I was doing retarded isolation exercises for like 2 months.
>>
50kg for 10 reps.
>>
Did 225 pounds for 5 reps last month and tore my left rotator cuff.

Considering suicide.
