How do i get faster while maintaining endurance?

you move your feet faster every time you run and you eventually get better at it.

it's just disheartening when i can't make the same distance as when i pace myself

Run further. My mile time progressed when I starting doing 2 miles, and my 2 mile progressed when I started doing 3.

Start doing Fartlek running. This is what I do:
We run on the side or the road through our neighborhood, and sprint based on light posts. Sprint for 6, then jog for 6. After a mile, 5 for 5, and so on. Our path was just about a 10k, so it worked to the point we were sprinting one for one. Try it. It'll kick your ass, but you'll get faster.
Also, remember the golden rule of running:
You can always add a little more speed.

People are screwing up this part of their training for example for a marathon.
The most important thing is to finish the run regardless your time. You need to finish your marathon without pausing. As soon as you have the stamina to finish your work on your speed. This takes some time because you increase weekly training mileage by no more than 10 percent per week. Most injuries I experienced (I'm not only talking about me idiot but also the people in my social cirlce who run) are caused by overstressing your body. Take your time and listen to your body. I would prefer to train two more weeks before reaching my goals instead of giving it a try and end up pausing for a month due to injury.

Improving your speed:
Is your form good? Proper running form makes a big difference.
I was giving the advice to run the first half 'slower' and speed up in the second half.
Google some workout plans to improve speed without increasing mileage.
