Well, with a lot of hard work and effort you can look like a guy who's been going to the gym for 3 months, but only if you have good genetics.

dood, you obviously ran in to some jacked black guy who just does muscles ups all day. well i assure you that guy still killed it in the gym for years before doing all bodyweight shit. if you wanna add muscle dumbbells and barbells are the best and most efficient way to do so.

also 20-25lbs is a huge amount of muscle to gain and your a faggit if your goals include putting on fat

You're really underestimating how much bodyweight exercises can do.

Go ahead and try to do a planche. No, it's not a skill that you have to learn. You're just not strong enough to do it.

I wanna gain a lot of weight and I know that its not gonna be all muscle, simple as that.

OP, lemme lvl with u

body weight exercises are good if you wanna loose weight, or maintain and lower bodyfat. but pumping iron is the best way, if you wanna gain the 20-25lbs you mentioned.

also diet is more important then anything if you wanna go up to 165
>>
>>37913390
Yeah, if all you want are big muscles as quickly as possible then weights are the way to go.

If you want to get there more slowly but become more fit overall then go wtih bodyweight.

Do both if you aren't retarded.

>>37912770
You can actually get pretty big and very strong with basic and some mid level calisthenics exercise.

Problem is that most people just...burn out or give up before they can get to that level.
>>
>>37913793
you can actually get pretty big and strong naturally with weights and just like 8 exercises.
Problem is that most people just...burn out or give up before they can get to that level.
OH WAIT
>>
>>37913934
So what you're saying, you people who claim that you can in three months get what the average bodyweight guy can get in 2 years, is that lifting weight is for fags.

Right?

Cause...if most people who got to the gym get nowhere even though they'll get better then every person who does bodyweight in a matter of months..then that doesn't say anything good about people who primarily lift weight or their mentality.
>>
Calisthenics
+ Cheap. You can literally go to a playground or your garage and do a work out for free.
+ Easy on your joints.
+ Harder to hurt yourself than using weights since failure usually just means you drop a couple inches onto the ground and don't have hundreds of extra pounds on top of you.

- Won't gain strength as quickly as you would with weights.
- Won't gain as much strength as you would with weights.
- Can't get as big as you could with weights.

Weights
+ Quickest way to gain strength.
+ Only way to reach your maximum potential strength.

- Eventually wears on your joints the as the years go by and the weight increases.
- Easier to hurt yourself than if you were using calisthenics.
- Either have to buy a home gym or a gym membership.

Both can give you a FANTASTIC physique if you watch what you eat and continue progressively increasing weight load/exercise difficulty.

I have said this before, but I firmly believe that anyone who is thinking about becoming fit should always start a calisthenics routine before going to a gym. They need to be sure they can stick to a routine for a few months before buying a gym membership; no point in buying one if you go there twice and then forget all about it.

The bottom line is do both. For 99% of people the gym is a vanity fair more than anything else. Calisthenics is more like a sport.

The cross over from the gym will have really nice transfer to bodyweight stuff. But don't go for vain reasons

why you just don't do weighted calisthenics once gains stops?

like, weighted pull ups, weighted tricep and chest dips, archer pull ups and the like?

buy a par of dumbbell and throw them into a backpack and you have enough weight for some months

Honestly it's probably best to mix free weights and bodyweight movements together, why not get the best of both worlds and hopefully achieve your results quicker?

I mean you can still use purely bodyweight movements and then eventually add external weight to those movements when you progress further, but it takes time and a good amount of dedication.

https://www.instagram.com/fitnessfaqs/?hl=en

Take this guy for example, built his body through bodyweight movements and eventfully added external weight on top of his bodyweight. Bare in mind this took him 9 years. 2012 is probably when he got that much mass, the cutting he's only recently done for the like the last year.

I don't do any bw work outs (aside from push ups, bw dips, and pull ups on off days) but I'm sure you could get a decent body from just bw exercises. Legs would be harder to do but it's still very possible to build them to a nice size I'm sure.

This is true but if you want upper body gains and strength bodyweight is really good. You can build good legs with bodyweight that are definetly way stronger than normie legs but you cant come close to the leg strength of powerlifters or olympic weightlifters.
The upperbody strength you can build with bodyweight is a whole different story.

Basically ill do a pull exercise, a push exercise, a leg exercise and a core exercise and that is on set. So ill do that for 3-5 sets. Its kind of like circuit training except with a differnt goal amd you rest as needed between exercises. Also reps depend on the difficulty of the exercise.
I hope this makes sense
>>37918626
Why is that?
>>
I guess a good mix between weighttraining and bw is recommendable.
What I find repelling with bw exercises is that pretty much all of them feel extremely weird in my shoulders, especially in the front-delt area. Anyone else has this?
>>
>>37918635

are horizontal rows a meme?
>>
>>37918841

No but as a beginner you will be able to just do it with your legs supported and assuming you can already do pull ups it will be too easy.
Once you get better do rows with your knees tucked but now i dont think its necessary.
>>
>>37918660
I hear some noise from my right one :/

>>
>>37918660
Either form or immobile.

True. I did it easily without being too good at bodyweight a while ago. Its especially easy with a table.
>>37919210
What?
>>
>>37919121
Yeah I know, pull ups are just fine. What I was referring to are exerises like a pseudo-planch-pushup or even just pushing your body away from the floor (in a seated position). Dunno, the tension these movements create in the shoulder is just so different from e.g. benching. Feels extremely weird, almost like my shoulder will simply break. It doesn't really hurt, but it's keeping me away from doing even slightly advanced bw stuff, even though I'd probably be able to do them strength-wise.
>>
>>37919250
Its just you arent used to it. Especially as you mean more into the planche position. Your delts are suppoused to be strong eough to support your whole body by the end and theyre very small muscles so its difficult.
>>
>>37919274
>mean
Meant to say lean
>>
>>37919250
That's how you know weight training results in muscular imbalances and doesn't hit everything the right way. Not saying that everyone should be able to do a planche, but a plance lean shouldn't feel bad, just exhausting.
>>
>>37919274
So basically I should simply do it more often to get the shoulders to adapt? Well, okay. Guess I'll include some heavier bw stuff into my shoulder session.

Sharing this post from another thread, I hope this settles the whole BW v. weights confustion... it's all a matter of time and whether you want to build strenth all over or just in the major muscle groups.

Your joints, tendons and smaller muscles play a heavy role in bw, and those are almost always the weak link that prevents progression into real bw exercises, even when your larger mucsle groups are already strong enough.

This is why it takes longer to build up big muscle groups doing bw, because you must build tons of strength in your tendons, joints and smaller muscles first, so you can apply more leverage to the bigger muscles.

Hope that makes sense.
>>
>>37922775

No. Pull up and a chin up work the same muscles except with a pull up you can transfer into muscle ups or other moves.
