20/5(4) = 20/5*4 and using the proper order of operations, you divide first and then multiply, as shown in this very thread

In the order of operations brackets are gone through first.

Only because it can't be written as a x and / together.
It's an incomplete equation if you have them together. Online calculators try to adjust for human stupidity by rewriting the equation to make sense, but it's meaningless.
>>
>>37911244
I actually can't tell if what you said is super autistic or if I'm too stupid to understand it. Why would it ever be written with a x and / together, you can't have 2 operations together. its a complete expression not equation. there is only one answer.

>The equation is ambiguous.
>>
>>37910802
BODMAS, Holyshit americans can't actually be this stupid.
>>
>>37911556
It's not ambiguous at all, thats just what retards have started saying about grade school mathematics they don't understand. People don't have to put brackets around things to recognise equations. Computers do.

20/5(2x2)

is
20 / (5(2x2))
We see and understand that there are 2 equations, and that you are supposed to divide the end equation by 20, therefore, to write it in a way that a computer can understand - and people that don't understand grade school maths - you rewrite it in a way that makes mathematical sense.

What a bracket effectively means is multiplication, but it's on a higher priority of operations.

5(2) is 5x2
5(2x2) is 5x2 + 5x2

20 / ((5x2)+(5x2))

People who do maths at school learn that you don't need to expand simple equations to get the correct answer. 5(2x2) is the same as 5(4).

20/5(4)
5(4) is a part of the equation related to a bracket, and thus gets done first.

Mathematics is pure language - the language of science. It is unique among languages in its ability to provide precise expression for every thought or concept that can be formulated in its terms. (In a spoken language, there exist words, like "happiness", that defy definition.)

>Simplicio: But isn’t math different? Isn’t math a language of its own, with all
sorts of symbols that have to be learned before you can use it?
>SALVIATI: Not at all. Mathematics is not a language, it’s an adventure. Do
musicians “speak another language” simply because they choose to
abbreviate their ideas with little black dots? If so, it’s no obstacle to
the toddler and her song. Yes, a certain amount of mathematical
shorthand has evolved over the centuries, but it is in no way essential.
Most mathematics is done with a friend over a cup of coffee, with a
diagram scribbled on a napkin. Mathematics is and always has been
about ideas, and a valuable idea transcends the symbols with which you
choose to represent it. As Gauss once remarked, “What we need are
notions, not notations.”

YOU FUCKING RETARDED PIECES OF SHIT THIS IS OVER THE REAL NUMBERS MEANING IT'S A FUCKING FIELD WHICH SATISFIES ASSOCIATIVITY WITH MULTIPLICATIVE INVERSES AND IT'S TRIVIAL FROM THERE ON. IF (.) DENOTES A FUCKING NUMBER THEN YOU SHOULD REALIZE THE OPERATION WITHIN THE BRACKETS FIRST
>>
>>37918647
>t. I think using big words to convey simple info makes me seem smart
>>
>>37918656
And it's irrelevant as well. In abstract algebra we use ^(-1) to denote inverses to avoid stupid notational ambiguities that led to all the retardation in this thread..
>>
>>37918666
Pretty sure its used once you leave grade school
>>
>>37909697
Do people really think you should stick to low weight on curls..? That's so fucking boring.

I don't see how this makes more sense than it being a language. Music is a language, math is a language, art is a language, we assume that a language is a "written" thing or something that can be written. But thats not exactly true. You can invent your own language without a written part of it. As long as it can be repeated and understood over time then it can hold up as a language. What you are thinking if is dialogue. Which is the written part of language.

It's fine if you don't understand but please refrain from making up stupid shit.

how many reps is high reps in high reps low weight brah.
asked my asian gf she said its 16 so stfu
>>
>>37909619

That equation makes no sense

To get 1 it should be 20/(5(2*2))

To get 16 it should be (20/5)*(2*2)

The equation is missing brackets
>>
>>37919398
No it's not. The answer is 16, cause math goes from left to right.
>>
>>37919422

It is missing brackets though. And maths doesn't work from left to right it works on BODMAS. This is a question of if you should multiply the bracket by the attached digit first which would make it 20/20 or bracket then division then attachment which makes it 16. You're supposed to use the brackets to note what you do first and since that equation is retarded it misses it

>>37909619
goddamn bitch fix your projector
>>
>>37919398
>>37919422
>>37919509

division is defined as multiplication with the multiplicative inverse of the numeral or variable to the right of the operation symbol, so /5 (or :5) means multiplying with one fifth.

Although you could argue there are, eventually there are no missing parenthesis, just ppl not being able to math; it's not logical to assume an operator applies to anything except the right next symbol

kek, this reminds me that many people think
1+1+1*0 = 0

dude it is 0 lol are you mentally ill

PEMDAS
Multiplayer first so it's 1 +1 + 0 = 2

The op image is regarded anyways, there's like 3 answers cause if ambiguity

Whoops ya I sperged out there. Shine on you crazy diamond

do the 30 day squat challenge :^)
>>
>>37918042

This is correct because the brackets take precedence, then you work left to right. So it's 16.
>>
>>37914184
Which means that a multiplication is also simply a division by the inverse of the multiplier, so the anon you responded to was also right.
I suspect he was gently baiting for the exact /sci/ autism that you are displaying.

ok
5 + 2 * 3 = 21
>>
>>37921831
20/5(2*2)
20
= ------
5(2*2)
=20 over 20 = 1. Prove me wrong fags.

No it doesn't lmao. Composition of maps goes from right to left.

Left to right following the order of operations

P-Parenthesis (Complete in order from left to right.)
E-Exponents
MD-Multiplication and Division (These are done at the same time in the order you run into them going left to right)
AS-Addition and Subtraction (Also done at the same time)

So we take an equation
20/5(2+2)
Look for P
D M P
20 / 5 ( 2 + 2 )

Now we have to complete the P before we continue our PEDMAS on the equation.

So we take what is in the P and apply PEDMAS to it from left to right
A
2 + 2

only A so we complete it and go back.

20 / 5 (4)

Now we look for E, and find none.
Next is MD which we have one of each.
D M
20 / 5 (4)

So we do them in order from left to right
D
20/5=4

leaving
M
4 (4)

4x4=16

And we do a quick check for AS

16

nope, no Addition or Subtraction left

We're done and the answer is
16
>>
20
_______________

5 * ( 2 * 2 )

If both are right I take the old way any day

Congrats OP, masterfuly trolled

I love how you faggots get sperging about this shit. I do math for a living and when some faggot uses poorly written equation like this (only pages long and different type of possible ambiguities), I make them rewrite it to check the validity if I spot such dumb faggotry.

Why would I rely on some other doofus knowing the order of operations in this shit as they hand it to me when I can smack them and tell them to make it so clear even the fucking noob machinist wouldn't make a mistake. I chose math because I don't want to rely on faggots making mistakes and losing time because they wanted to use some obscure fucking notation to appear smart, asking for validation takes whopping 3 seconds.

But oh please do continue, KEKing hard here at your attempts to look smart. I didn't know /sci/ visited /fit/. How much do you have to massage your egos to visit TWO narcissistic boards, ffs.

Depends on if it's 20 divided by five times 2^2 or if it's 20 over five times 2^2.

ATM I make sure bots on production lines do the shit they are supposed to do, don't break under changing loads and can successfuly operate with big blocks of material as well as tiny electronics, despite the stupidity of their operators. What I will do when I get bored of this, who knows, studying chem on the side, maybe will kick back, take up law and be a consultant when I get tired of BS.
