High Intensity Interval Training
I usually do 1 hour on the elliptical (bad joints) so according to the machine I burn 600 calories in an hour. * to be taken with a grain of salt of course. For the first 30 minutes, my heart rate is at 160, then it starts to climb to 175ish in the last 30 minutes of my 1hour routine.
HOWEVER,
Today I said fuck it, I don't want to spend a lot of time in the gym for cardio so I did HIIT. Every minute I went at a steady pace, and every other minute I went balls out. By the end of my workout I had burned an arbitrary number of 300 calories according to the machine, but here's the thing, my heart rate was at 186!
So obviously my heart rate increases more significantly and in a higher burst doing HIIT than doing my one hour normal routine.
Now my question is, if i'm buring fat and trying to generally improve my cardiovascular health, would HIIT be ideal over a steady 1 hour pace?
pic unrelated but you have been visited by pupper
