I think starting strength or stronglifts are perfect programs to start out on whatever your goals as they are the most effective and simple way to help you build a base strength and get your strengths levels up to a respectable level in a short amount of time.
Mark Rippetoe is a great instructor in terms of form. If you read and watch any videos by him, he is very specific about the details of the form of the different main compound lifts and if you follow his advice you will find your lifts greatly improve as you perfect your form. He isn't a great coach if you want advice for aesthetics but he never promises this anyway.
I would recommend follow his advice to all beginnings to begin wweightlifting, whatever your goals.
