Yeah, it stems from the traditional viewpoint that men should be men and not some cucked cunt, this view of masculinity is lost in major cities and is more concentrated in lower working class/agricultural/farming communities.
I've found the gym culture different too, places like America people come into a gym headphones in, ignore people around them, go autismo mode and doe their routine and leave, whereas here there's a sense of community unique to each gym with pics of famous competitors that have trained in that gym, people help out a lot and motivate you when you need it.
The more high end gyms focus on machine work, 'toning' and paying rediculous amounts to a personal trainer to make you bulk and cut.
