I'm probably going to hit 1 plate for overhead press before 2 plates for bench. Should I be concerned?
>>
>>37733379
>probably
theres a long road between 50 and 60kg ohp
>>
yes, you should be concerned that you're that weak in both lifts.
>>
>>37733436
Good to know, I'm at 50 kg right now.
>>
>>37733456
We all start from somewhere
>>
>>37733465
Are you microloading?

What are you eating?

What program are you doing?
>>
>>37733456

Where can i get that jacket?
>>
>>37735344
Microloading at sub~80kg ohp is just a shitty method to try to overcome bad programming
>>
>70kg OHP
>100kg bench
Is it because of my weak triceps?
>>
a lot of people get stuck around 60kg ohp for a long ass time. Took me almost a year to get from 70x5 to 78x5 ohp. Shoulders are notoriously difficult (unless you roid).
>>
>>37733379
I hit 72kg ohp for 1rm before I hit 2pl8 bench 1rm

Then again I pressed 2x a week and only benched 1x a week after pressing so whatever
>>
>>37735666
Making arbitrary statements such as don't do x before x weight is retarded and bad programming.

I had never tried driving forward with my hips when doing OHP
>mfw i do it like Rippetoe shows it and i lift 20% more than before

I was wrong with assuming the 1.5pl8 as a limit of conventionspal progression, but microloading at 50kg ohp
Cmon m8, there are much faster ways around those sticking points
We obv can't determine what's his problem since he didn't post what he does currently, what he eats and how much he rests, etc.

How to progress without microloading?
>>
Currently I can do 45kg (99lb) OHP and 75kg (165lbs) bench, I've been adding 2.5kg each week and hitting Push twice a week. Realistically, assuming my diet is good how long could I expect to keep progressing 2.5kg per week before I begin to stall?
>>
Im at 50x9 OHP and 65x10 on bench. I know my OHP is high by comparison but I still thought getting it first was the norm. Looking at symmetricstrength, 1pl8 OHP gives a lower strength score than 2pl8 bench. I fucked around doing OHP at home before I went to a gym with a bench, I imagine a lot of people did pushups before starting at the gym.
>>
>>37736298
same shit here, my friend

just keep progressing in both, having a good OHP is rewarding as it transfers pretty well to your bench press strenght. I'm willing to bet your BP form needs to be addressed. Once it is, your BP will skyrocket

Blog moment to ilustrate:

around august 2015:

OHP: 110x5
BP: lol nope

Got squat rack in september
OHP: maybe 115x5
BP: 145x5

July2016:

OHP: 195x3
BP: 285x3 (touch n' go)

And of course we're talking about strict press, knees locked
>>
>>37736574
Yeah I was stalling on BP due to shit form but I'm progressing linearly now, but only by 2.5kg/workout (every 4days). Should I be trying to add 5kg instead?
>>
I hit 1 before 2. 1/2/3/4 is a neat goal but a pointlessly arbitrary strength milestone. Not to mention it's either 1rm or 5rm depending on which autist you're talking to.
>>
>>37733379
3plate diddly, 1plate OHP
>>
>>37733379

I did, and I am not.

What I'm more worried about is the fact that I don't think I'll ever hit 3pl8 squat.
>>
>>37736716

It's 5rm, anyone who says otherwise is a giant faggot. I actually started a new thread to ask this very question, and 100% of respondents said 5rm.
>>
>>37736697
imho, no, keep it slow and steady, it's so easy to stall on BP due to excessive overloading. 2.5 kg/ workout is plenty for stress/adaptation to occur while mainaining greater control over the weight
>>
>>37737075
It's 1rm. Or rather, it's just weights without any associated rep count. If you want to lift it 5 times knock yourself out, but anyone who can OHP 1pl8 has a 1pl8 OHP, and 1/2/3/4 is 1/2/3/4 even if you do it 5 times.
>>
>>37737055
You doing accessories brah?
>>
Is there anything wrong with using the smith machine for OHPs?
>>
>>37737630

>wrong
>using the smith machine

chose 2
>>
>>37737316
I'm using side safety bars so I won't die if I fail. Since I'm doing 10 reps I can afford to miss one, 70x9 is still slightly better than 67.5x10, and 70x8 is slightly better than 65x10.

Isn't stalling due to overloading mainly due to the all or nothing nature of the step between 4reps and 5reps? Or is it that even a successfully completed set with "too much" weight can be hard to recover from, and set me back in the long run?
>>
>>37733379
I ohp 145 x3 and bench 200 x 6

Symmetric strength gave me a symmetry score of 100

1/2/3/4 is a meme for people with weak delts
1.5/2/3/4 is more like it
>>
>>37733465
Wow, you really don't know much about The Press, do you? Difference between 110 and 135 is huggeeee
>>
>>37735666
Which program is good for OHP ?

Inb4 531
>>
>>37733465
Speaking from experience seated dumbell presses got me to 60kg on the ohp. I lost a fuck ton of power in lack of core strength and inability to explode and drive that power all the way up!
>>
>>37737630
thts called a seated military press. And yes. the press requires much more technique, control and force.
>>
>>37733379
I did this

I do slight push press though
