If you Google when and why not to use a static method in Java, you'll get better explanations than I can give. But it is bad practice for many reasons
>>
>>37711710
Doesn't static just mean that the memory space is shared?

iirc, if something is static that means that multiple methods could be using it, so if you just default to making things static, you could be taking up memory when it isnt really necessary?

(im the guy who doesnt do java)

>>37711837
I'm referring to only making static methods, not static methods as a whole. They are certainly fine to use, but with OOP, you shouldn't be making every method static, like Isley is doing. https://docs.oracle.com/javase/tutorial/java/javaOO/classvars.html

>>
So what are we training today lads?
>>
>>37711842

Studies have shown that density doesn't affect strength or hypertrophy at all, and that volume for hypertrophy is just amount of sets in a certain difficulty level. iirc it's 8 RPE+

The weight x reps x sets is a meme.
Resting 90s or 120s is a meme.

The rest is fine.
>>
>>37711894
So when are you going to officially trade your hole for a pole?
>>
>>37711842
Pretty sure the intensity thing is really important for my bench.

can barely do heavy bench because my training intensity on TM is too low. so this week I need to just up it and redo last week.
>>
>>37711970
I'd like to see one of those studies desu, training density is talked about by people like Mike T and to achieve a higher systemic stress I thought?

>>
>>37712054
Er,

I was doing 5rm, then 3rm for about a week or two.

Now 2rm.

DESU I think the only reason I had to decrease from 5 -> 3 -> 2 is not because I'm not making gains, but I think I had too much submaximal volume.

Increasing %age will maybe let me get back up to 3rms tbqh, and certainly should let me keep doing 2rms.

Funny how Williams drop his whole "praise jaysus" act this time round. And Cornelius didn't even know the words to his own anthem - looked so damn uncomfortable when the camera was panning up to his face. Then Haack acting all stuck up, and Candito sucking his dick for it; Candito even begged to be allowed to commentate apparently. Really inauthentic athletes compared to the humble likes of Gibbs.

Can I replace rows with rack pulls?
The ego weights are insane
The trap gains are insane

I mean who cares about lats anyway?

Stronger bigger traps = more shoulder retraction when benching thus less ROM

Big traps = big Deadlfit

Big traps = secure bar when squatting

Lats do nothing

Why do rows or chins

Chins suck and feel big
I don't do lifts that feel bad

Rows don't feel as bad but aren't fun like rack pulls

So why do them?
>>
>>37712984

Not only was he not shaken up, he came out and absolutely destroyed the deadlift - rpe 0 on every attempt. That was beautiful.

>>37711588

What? Gibbs got gold in bench, and very nearly got his last pull. His total was 45.5kg higher than Hubbard's. It was all because of that bogus call on the squat for dipping, when really he just shook. *If* he had gotten the squat, he'd have gotten his third, not wasted energy on failing, and been ready to outpull Haack. Haack would've been the one shaken up from having to compete for the last kilo. Biased American judging all the way through.
>>
>>37713043

No need for the hostility, brother. Everyone has to start - or restart - somewhere, right?

I was on /fit/ back in 2010? 2011? I severed my AC ligament a few years back, and in the depression of losing my gains and the pain of the injury I fell into depression. Ate my way up to 375 pounds, what a dreamer bulk. I found /fit/ again back in September, and I've been lurking /plg/ since - it reminds me of what I'm missing out on.

My lifts are weak as fuck right now - though after seeing what you gents are capable of they always have been. I just hope I can get as strong as some the big dogs here - gotta try hard, right?

>>37712539

Not for competition.

But yes, one leg is doing a hack squat, the other is deadlifting. Those are different lifts that work your thigh/hip muscles differently.
It can also cause imbalance when it comes to your back and trunk muscles.

If you're doing it like a horizontal deadlift, then it can cause imbalance when it comes to your upperback.

So balance out your training.

This is just my opinion though.
>>

Can you explain why Eric hugenbagen doesn't switch his legs? He is adamant on muscle imbalances, he constantly blames them on injuries, so why do you think he wouldn't switch legs?

Try 4, minimum. Clarence rests 7-10 per working set, Alex Kang 10-15 for deadlifts.
There is literally no downside to resting more, while only a negative to resting less.

How do you guys deal with working full time jobs and lifting?

I lift 4 days a week, but on those days I work 9-5 and then hit the gym after, including driving I get home by 7. Then by the time I shower and eat dinner and get shit like laundry, shopping or various household chores done it's basically time for bed and to do it all over again.

It's really starting to fucking exhaust me.

>>
>>37715930
>>37715930
I think the answer is to stick to something simple, which could mean either high frequency with lower volume or more of a 5/3/1 or Juggernaut kind of setup. I just don't see a four-day Sheiko template being sustainable for most of the year for someone with serious demands on their time, 40+ hour work weeks are manageable but toss a family in there for instance and that's about all the time you have. This is my own future I'm seeing here and I've started to think about it a bit in the last month or two. I'm sure a home gym would help.

Also trip on norse.
>>
>>37715981
Yep. They don't just need to be better/more efficient at spotting, they need to be straight up stronger. Like if you cant press or deadlift even novice numbers for your bw how the fuck are you gonna be able to heave up or help stabilize a heavy bar. Just plain retarded.

>>37716074

>I'm sure a home gym would help.

That's always a good way to go as long as you have the cash and the space for it.

I was working 10 to 12 hour shifts and running CLP and without a homegym I don't think I could have managed it. It's not just that it's convenient, I found it really helps with the decompressing. Heading to the gym right after work it extends the day by 2 or so hours where you have to be 'on'.

With a homegym you can get to your place, relax for a half hour or so, prepare a quick bite to eat, and then when you're done you just hop in the shower and you're ready to decompress for the rest of the night.

Also, the better your nutrition and your sleep the better you'll of course. Try and get on top of your micronutrients, make use of melatonin (if it works for you) to help crash after everything's said and done.

And if you're working indoors all day definitely look into picking up some vitamin D. 5000 IU a day will help tremendously with energy levels and motivation.
>>
>>37716104

That's not even relevant.

This is one of the biggest powerlifting events, and they should have more concern for the safety of the lifters.

Yeah you might be right. Good to know I'm not just a bitch.

40 hour weeks and lifting were fine until I moved out with my GF. I get my weekends to enjoy. But the week is such a marathon of fuck that I'm ready to collapse by friday night. And sometimes I think "Hey I'd like to enjoy this old hobby of mine" or "you know watching a movie with the GF tonight would be kinda nice" but you just don't have time, even when you rush everything and squeeze in all the time management you can you have such little time left it's hard to enjoy it when you're watching the clock cuz you gotta make sure you're in bed by 11 so you don't have to do this shit without sleep the next day.

>>37716181
One day I want a home gym, but that won't be for many years.
>>
>>37716193

It's not relevant what kind of spotting experience I have at meets.

Maybe I know I'm shitty at it so I don't volunteer.

My point is that they should instruct spotters properly, and find people who will be good at it.

(2) Start cuckolls next week.

For what it's worth, I am cutting right now.

ANyone have advice?

>pic very unrelated, but nice and memey.
>>
>>37715930
I'm usually at work from 8-4:30, go home eat a small snack, lift at 7. Sleep at 11. It helps that I literally live a 3 minute drive from my gym though. That still leaves me about 4 hours of free time a day where I'm not lifting, working, or sleeping, which is plenty for chores, video games, etc. Plus on rest days you'll have lots of free time.

Now that I'm seeing someone it's gonna be interesting finding how I can squeeze in time with her during the week though.
>>
>>37716226
It's entirely relevant. There are too many selfish people such as yourself who want to lift but aren't willing to give back and it's a massive problem for every level of the IPF. Being on the platform is hard work. But learning how to do it is not.

How many 200kg+ squatters were sat in the audience complaining about the unpaid spotters, but didn't offer to do it themselves? How many lifters thanked their spotters after competing? How many dumped the bar and risked the safety of the people protecting theirs?

Me posting this will not make you learn. You will not learn except on your own, maybe a year and a half or two years from now. Have you tried intermittent fasting? A lot of blokes consider it a meme but I think it can definitely help if you're lifting heavy while cutting.

If you just want to cut 10 pounds you could always run a protein sparring modified fast for 2 weeks. It's a pain in the ass but there's no more effective way to drop the weight and let you get back to building muscle asap.
>>
>>37716312
This. Since I decided to stop fucking around with cutting/recomp and bulk past 170 lbs, my lifts are going up so fast.
>>
>>37716377
Way too many newnigs decide they're too fat once they wrap up SS and decide they need to cut (see a certain trip cutting on 1900 calories a day). This stalls forward progress hard as fuck, because when you're training with real volume your TDEE is actually pretty high, and you're in a phase where what you really need most of all is more muscle.

Basically just don't be a stupid fuck. Still eat lots of food, just less whole milk and PB&J's. Good luck.
>>
>>37716377
Dony switch to a harder or more complicated program if youre cutting. Accept that cutting will reduce strength and just try again, or check the fitsticky website for how to break a stall.

Often times the best training is the simplest and least intensive you can get away with.
>>
>>37716262
>>37716377
To provide a slightly more productive answer, cycling rep ranges is a good idea, when you can't make a 1x5, go to 2x3, then 3x2, then 4-5x1. When only have two or three singles left in you, go back to your last 1x5 weight. Tinker with volume all you want until you find something that's enough to smoke you and drive up ID without being so much it ruins the whole week.

But seriously, eat plenty of good food.

I would like to if I could, but I'm diabetic (t1). So I can't really do IF per se, but most days I don't really eat to much for a lot of the day anyway.

>>37716433

Yeah. I think everyone is right and I just dont wanna be a lardass. I'll probably just accept my fate.

>>37716478
I'm going to see if I can improve / spur progress by having some higher percentage sets of doubles, triples. I think for bench I really, really need higher intensity on VD for it to transfer to ID.

>>37716507
Thanks man.

I am cycling rep ranges right now.

As I mentioned in the above reply, I think that I really need higher intensity on VD to make ID, and probably some extra volume on VD, ID, especially at higher %age.

also eating at maintenance is what I'm thinking I'll do now.

>webm unrelated

>For what it's worth, I am cutting right now.
>ANyone have advice?

Run something super simple with slow progression and low volume. 5/3/1 would be great.

The slow progression and low volume and unambiguity make it a fine cutting program. If you chose to do the BBB variant, keep the percentages low, or you won't recover from them in time.

More volume sounds good.

I actually added a lot more volume a couple weeks ago but it didnt seem to make much difference and I think it was because the percentage was too low. So Im thinking rather than doing 3x5 or something at 185 (dropped from 225) it would be a lot better to do 2-3x3 at 215 or 210 or so.

>That might be your best bet, brother.

>>
>>37716730
That's fine then, like I said they're your hips. The only time I start with forward knee travel is front squats.
>>
>>37716749

>slow bulk

I'd advise against that. As you're at a high body fat percentage your hormones aren't in a good place for bulking. You said you hated how you felt at 255, and if you get back up to 240-245 you may get real discouraged.

Definitely start by trying to find your maintenance and keeping the the numbers on the scale constant. If you're getting stronger and you're at the same weight you can know that you're dropping body fat and building muscle mass.

As soon as you start to stall again that's a sign that you've raised your TDEE enough that you need to add an additional 100-200 calories a day.

Also, when you start eating at maintenance you're probably going to gain 3-5 pounds just from water weight/glycogen/food in your gut/etc.

Good luck, brother! I hope you make it.

It's a better angle from the last one, but since it's not quite head on with the barbell and plates, a little off. It seems like you're pitching a little too far forward, shifting the barbell past mid foot in the bottom half of the lift. More knee travel or trying harder to stay more upright could help.

>>37716884
Not to mention that upper back, i guess if i combined upperback tightness, with forward kneetravel and just trying harder i will be squatting pretty gud in no time
