Yes. I lift 4 days a week and I do jump drills and other plyo work on two of my off days. I don't go too crazy, but I do try to push myself a little bit. It's supposed to be 'active recovery' so if I feel myself straining I back off.

Don't do sprints, though. Seems like an 'off season' activity.

You're never too weak or new to start getting competition experience. The more you compete, the easier it will be in the future. The main diff is that old coachs programs were also geared towards the crossfit people lifting in the gym but i wasnt at the same sched/timing to be on the nat. Team program

For example today i have 3x3 back squats at 90% (130kg)
W previous coach i dont think i ever really touched anything above 80% let alone heavy trips

Just do it then. Physical strength almost doesn't matter before 120kg snatch. For lighter weights a strong mental resolution is usually enough.

For a weightlifting specific example look up Mattias Steiner. He was a natural German lifter who beat doped Russian and Latvian lifters. They may have been more physically strong but he was motivated by a desire to avenge his dead wife.

as long as your program has decent exercise selection and has a balanced intensity you should be able to gain no matter what.

as for personal records, you should attempt it every 3 or more weeks.
focus on gaining at least 2.5 kg on both snatch and cj every 2 months.
it might not sound that much but if you accomplish it in a year you could gain 15 kg by the end of the year.

you can and should gain a lot more in squats and pulls.

there are often times people dont get the 2.5 boost but there are multiple factors why it would happen.

i think technique is most common for people at this level. you can add exercises to your program if you feel the need for it (like hang stuff and jerk stuff).

mentality can be another factor but if you have strength to lift it, you can drink a lot of caffeine and cross your finger.
an example of this would be back when i did 80 kg snatch i couldnt jump to 85 for few weeks but a month later i did 91kg.


if its strength related, dont attempt pr until you raise your accessories more.

My C&J has gone from 60-100kg.
Snatch has gone from 30-80 kg.

Reason of rapid progress is my earlier experience with lifting, being "in the game" for 4 years and knowing my strength/weaknesses and how to adapt and improve technique, but i had a break for two months being sick and losing weight (77-66kg) and now i plan on competing in 69kg class.

Im afraid of variying too much technique-wise and ending up with stalling/fucking up my form.


TL;DR: noob lifter with some exp, experienced athletes at my gym, not knowing who's the most reliable and in which one to trust. How do i sort out the bullshit?

Well i know what you mean, i gave a heads up on weird explanation. By basics i mean how the snatch/C&J should look and feel like, but it will never become perfect. I might be worrying too much but i'm putting my trust in the experienced people at my gym, but not knowing who to fully trust, if you know what i mean.

The "kick" i'm referring to is maybe what you call "the second pull" or when you hit/brush the bar with your hip in order to move the bar vertical. Fuck i suck at explaining but you get the point. Question is still standing

I have similar problem but much harder for me to address since I got operated on my meniscus but it still is hurting when squatting even a year later. Most of the time I just focus on keeping my knees out but a huge problem I have is that one leg is a little more muscled and stronger which breaks symmetry.
