Ignore the troll m80. I used to be skinnyfat myself. I bulked on 500 extra calories for 6 months on gslp from the fitsticky and then went on a 6 month cut with 500 cal deficit.

It's not fucking rocketscience. You gotta decide at what max bodyfat% you're comfortable with. If you bulk slower you will gain slower but will also build less fat, if you go heavy on the calories you will gain muscle faster as well but it will come with more fat. Once you have a solid foundation you can cut.
It is your call in the end, give a 3-500 calories bulk a chance, listen to your body and figure out what works for you.
