My city has a publicly funded fitness center with full gym facilities that are available to the public for free. It sounds good in principle but every time I go I see something like pic related happen, a pod of fat girls comes in, does 10-15 minutes of cardio, and then goes and buys a bunch of smoothies and shit at the snack bar.

I had no real understanding of what they were or anything until I took an elective foods/nutrition course in high school, most people don't even get that. We need a massive overhaul of our education system and just more awareness in general about how easy it is to be stop being a fat fuck. Recovering fatty here. I started at a weight of 315 and a BMI at over 45 nine months ago. I'm currently down to below 265 and 38 respectively, and still going.
I don't look a whole lot different (at least I don't think so), but it feels like night and day. I really do feel a lot better, and I'm hoping to get below 200 and 30 by this time next year.

What's funny is we had nutrition courses in high school but never learned about calories beyond the scientific definition (carbs=4kcal/g, etc.) TDEE, BMI, etc. We learned to "eat healthy and exercise" but never how to quantify any of that shit.
