Hi /fit/, I've had pic related for about a year now.
I recently started SL 5x5 and as I lift heavier I find that my current shoes are making me shift more weight to the side of my foot and curl my toes.
I know this is fucking with my gains. Should I buy Olympic Weightlifting Shoes? Or is there a cheaper option? What shoes do you wear?

got mine for 60 bucks
BAREFOOT
BARE FEET
you don't want shoes with a compressible sole. If you're cheap just buy some chucks or even knockoff chucks. If you want to buy something better look into some dedicated weightlifting shoes like PL2s or Adipwers.

Thanks. PL2 seems to be in my price range although I can't find one in my size on amazon (size 7 footlet here).

What are chucks? Would you mind posting links?

Chuck Taylors. Those hipster shoes. Dunlop volleys are the same thing but less faggy and cheaper
Just do yourself a favour and get a pair of these
Barefoot or flat shoes such as converse or vans etc

First off, do a better program

All of the shoes described below are great, including the cheapest options.
Heel height is personal preference. Though most people benefit from heels for squats, specially novices. It just fixes many issues with form.
I'd advise against using flat shoes or going barefeet, except for the deadlift.
Remember to look for sales. They're very common.
Cheap but Great:
Adidas Powerlift 2 (1.5cm heel)
Wei-Rui Warrior (1.9cm heel)
Wei-Rui VX3 (1.9cm heel)
Do-Win Gong-Lu 2 (2.5cm heel)
Sabo Gym (1.5cm heel)
Do-Win Gong-Lu 3 (2cm heel)
Sabo Deadlift (flat heel)
Deadlift slippers (flat)
Mid-tier:
Adidas PowerPerfect 2 (2.1cm heel)
Adidas Drehkraft (2.1cm heel)
Risto Tiburon 2 (2.2cm heel)
Risto Deadlift (flat heel)
Sabo Powerlift/Weightlift (2cm heel)
Reebok CrossFit Lifter Plus 2.0 (2cm heel)
Inov-8 Fastlift (1.7cm heel)
Do-Win Pendlay (2cm heel)
Higher tier:
Adidas Adipower (2cm heel)
Nike Romaleos 2 (2cm heel)*
Risto Olimpico (2.2cm heel)
Anta Chinese Weightlifting (2cm heel)*
Adidas Leistung (2.5cm heel)
Collectors tier:
Asics 727 Tiger (2cm heel)*
Adidas Adistar 2008 (2cm heel)*
Adidas Adistar 92/96/00/04 (2cm heel)*
Adidas Ironwork 3 (2cm heel)*
Rogue Rippetoe Powerlifting (1.3cm heel)
Do-Win Rogue (1.3cm or 2cm heel)

Another option for flat heeled shoes are Wrestling shoes. Chucks work ok as well.

Look in other websites, like roguefitness and whatnot. I don't know many but google should be helpful.
Or just use the discount coupon adidas gives when you sign up to their newsletter. I think it brings the shoes to 75U$ or something.

that shit is exactly what I've been looking for. going to buy a pair soonish
>>37650868
A reverse image search leads to a adidas page. Would you mind posting the exact link/name of shoes?
>>37650896
I'm making good progress on SL (2 months in) so I don't think I'll be quitting anytime soon. Thanks for the shoes list!
>>37650868
You look like a fucking faggot lifting in that
>>37650765
Even steel toed boots are better than running shoes for lifting.

i found .75 heel squat shoes to be essential for maintaining proper form on high bar back squat. i think this advice is painfully understated, especially for tall people. it's as useful as not rounding your lower back on a deadlift. very few people can obtain the dorseflexion required for proper high bar squat and most olympic lifter wear shoes with elevated heels, some modified higher than the original.
