Worst exercise thread?

I'll start: Barbell rows
>>
>>37598550
Barbell rows (horizontal or 30°, overhand or underhand, constantly holding the bar in the air or pausing on the floor or touch and go)
Upright rows
Any kipping lift (pullups, lat raises, curls, etc)
Any lift for time/max reps (xfit)
Any geared lift outside of competition or competition prep

Barbell rows give you amazing lats. If your an idiot and can't engage your Lat on a barbell row then don't come near a barbell.
>>
>>37598898
yeah just use lower weight with Prosper form and get your lower back swole
>>
>>37598882

Deadlifts and chins do not involve scapular retraction, which is real damn useful for getting your rhomboids and mid traps trained. Also kind of important for benching.

>>
>>37602973
I think you are either dyel, stupid, or both.
Tucking in elbows when benching takes the pecs out of the lift, isolating the front delts and triceps and makes you lift LESS.
Tucking in your shoulders makes you lift MORE because it makes the shoulder girdle more stable and decreases ROM
>>
>>37603138
>Tucking in elbows when benching takes the pecs out of the lift

No it doesn't, it just decreases the workload on them. They are still hit significantly. I bench more with my elbows tucked in than flared. I also find I get a better squeeze at the top when my grip is a little closer and I prefer that.
>>
>>37603160

ftfy
>I bench more with my elbows tucked in than flared.
1) not tucked in ≠ flared
2) no you don't.
3) post form check vid from the bottom (camera on balls and towards barbell) and from side with what you think is close and wide or tucked in vs flared elbows so that we can laugh at your terrible kinaesthetic sense
>I also find I get a better squeeze at the top when my grip is a little closer and I prefer that.

Of course you do, closer grip = longer ROM. But close grip ≠ tucked in elbows. And prefer ≠ more efficient lift

I get more leg drive and my lats come into play more if my elbows are closer to my sides, yes I do. If my elbows hit 45 or greater it feels awkward as fuck and kills my left rotator cuff. Maybe I have a shoulder problem but that doesn't change the fact that:

Same. In my own case I think it's because I get tired in ways I don't notice and my form slips a bit. Like normally you keep your chest pushed forward and your core tight, but on rep 3 I might slip up and breath incorrectly and my core goes slack and my chest moves in, so when the bar comes down it's in a poor position and suddenly it's way harder to push it back up.

Pendlay Rows

I have no idea why Stronglifts has such a hardon for them, considering that entire sections of the world don't even know pendlays exist anymore, because they figured out they're inferior in any way to normal rows like 20 years ago.

A normal row allows you to lift more weight, on a more optimal line, and making it easier to keep your spine straight. Even if you break form, the bar just roll off your knees and onto the floor.

Meanwhile, pendlays may actually be the exercise able to snap your shit with the lowest weight amongst all barbell exercises ever devised by man.

I have no idea whose idea was it to make it a staple of a beginner program, when even an advanced lifter is better off doing normal rows.

>>
>>37605745
I cant start from the floor though, should i stack some plates and do it anyways?
I see he goes only up to his stomach, I do that but thought I was somehow cheating, is it ok?

I admit that I sometimes can use some momentum.
Like some anon said, I will start concentrating on squeezing my scapulae, that's gonna be tough due to my recovering kyphosis

It's maybe the only compound exercise where people seeing you do it will ask you what the hell you're doing and think you're doing rows wrong.
Because it's objectively easy to hurt yourself doing pendlays, and there's no reason to do it when normal rows do the exact same thing without having you need 911 on speed dial while you're doing them.

A lot of people like to be contrarian and do them only because "They're hard so if I do them I'll show them how much of a better lifter I am!", but come on. When every PT in the world stops you to ask what the fuck you're doing, maybe you should ask yourself why you, living in 2016, are doing an exercise that nobody has done since the 80s.

The one that I've upped the weight on a little too much in the past couple weeks, and know I should deload.
I've literally gone through hating every single lift for this reason and I've only been lifting 4 months.
I will say this: The main benefit of deadlifts is they make the other lifts seem way less intense by comparison.
>>
>>37605757
But rows retract your scapula and work your rhomboid.
>>
>>37605839
Not the guy you're responding to, but my advice is this:
1. Pull from a block and work on flexiblity until you can pull from the floor.
2.So long as the bar touches your torso it counts.
3. For strictly bodybuilding purposes you should not use momentum, but George Leeman has talked about how he incorporates a litte bit of body english when doing rows because it allows him to lift more weight. So I guess it depends on your goals
4. Start doing face pulls (if you're not doing them already) to help with your kyphosis.
