C6W W4 lower day 2 today and I get to try out my knee sleeves for the first time. Should be pretty easy to hit all the reps: squat 285x3, 295x2 then deadlift 355x3, 370x2

As someone who's had pretty severe depression, and still has it pop up time to time, in my experience, anything that you do or don't do is on you. On a lower level, it's like getting insulted over bullshit. Now, you can either cry like a child or you can pay it no mind/laugh it off. I realize that they aren't anything close, but it was an example for my point. The way you act is always in your control.

So, depression is like a pain response - similar to holding your hand over an open flame. You need to look at your life and find out what is causing the mental pain. From there you can take action - baby steps.

You cannot rely on motivation, it comes and goes. However, when the feeling does strike you then do work. Use it to the best of your ability - clean your house/room, go for a run, clean out the fridge, work on your hygiene, read a book. Anything - just do something.

You must leaven discipline with motivation - allow the one to carry you when the other falters.

but I don't understand, I can only act on impulse, I always go with the flow, how could I deny a bad impulse in the first place? Biological imperative is everything, there is no other force that decides what I do. I've tried this before, but all it amounts to is thoughts in my heads that say "I really need to do this, I'm gonna do this, right now, this will be done" but the actions to follow that up never occur, and I don't know what to do to change that.

You need to do something productive. By sitting in front if your PC fir hours on end consuming media, you get In your head too much since there's literally nothing to do but think/reflect on your past.

Find something to do so you have to concentrate on the present instead of moping in sadness doing literally nothing.

This and meditation helped me wonders, albeit it still comes back from time to time. But in life you give and take, there's always going to be some sadness following happiness. Gotta get used to it and keep going.
