What does /fit/ think of home gyms?

If you had a nice sized garage, would you have a home gym?
>>
I love it, got mine for $550.
Rack, bench, 191 kg oly-weights bar included and 115 kg schoolweights for dumbbells and floor protection. I can do everything I want to do; bench, deadlifts and squats, along with other things of course. All that was $60 cheaper than 2 years at the cheapest gym where I live.

With bench, not everything included in pictures.

All you need for a "home gym" is a pair of adjustable spinlock dumbells and a pullup bar
Obviously theres other shit you can add like a bench, barbell and power rack but you dont need it to get goin
>>
Of course I would have a home gym. Though I wouldn't need much except gym rings and a pull-up bar since

>tfw calisthenticfag
The only weight I need is a weight vest. Enjoy paying a shit ton for all those dumb bells, idiots. I can overload my muscles through variations and adding a few lbs to my vest.

Make sure you can make the standing press in it

It's a dream that's for fucking sure

Absolutely. Moved into a place with a disused garage and made a gym out of it. Total cost for a rack, bench, bar and plates was a bit over £800 (dont know what that is in Gay Bar Shooter Units) - for comparison gym memberships for me and the gf are about £600 a year including transport costs, so come this winter it'll have paid for itself and I'll be lifting for almost free from that point on. plus: no queueing, no pajeets, listen to my own music, lift in my boxers. Feels good man.

I just bought my first house. I currently have a home gym built in the place a I rent. The garage is too low for me to do OHP so every house I looked at, I stood in the garage and raised my hands up. Most ceilings were too low (I'm 6'4) except for the house I bought.

Currently have a squat rack, adjustable bench, 600lbs of oly plates, and an adjustable dumbbell set.

Looking to invest in a pulley system when I get settled in my new place.

Pumping iron for the coming race war, I like it!

I would probably lose motivation. I like leaving my house and going somewhere with people.

>having that many static weight dumbbells when you have all those weights you could've easily used to on an adjustable dumbbell

I don't have a garage but I do have a spare room/area buts it's all thick carpet. What will the damage to the floor be like if I set up my home gym there?
>>
>>37533848
Nice, man. How has it affected your motivation? Is it better or worse than going to the gym?

4500 kronor, bought it from a friend whom I helped pick some of the stuff and helped him put it all together. Only the rack was 3790 Kr., to buy everything in store would cost about 13000 Kr. The barbell is some noname that was part of a 127 kg set but My friend who had the shit before me deadlifted ~180 kg for reps with it and it's not bent the slightest.

Sorry m8, sure I wanna get buff but I hope there will be no race war. Nice pic tho.

I went to the gym in 2010 with a bunch of friends when I was at an internship, but since then I haven't really dared go to the gym. I love doing the shit at home because no one can see me do it, it's like when I run, I only do it in the middle of the night because no one will see me do it. Maybe when I git gud I'll dare to go to the gym with my friends, but money is also an "issue", I can easily afford it, but I'm saving for an apartment so this was a great opportunity.

Oh yeah. It's a must, imo. It pays for itself in a year or so. No pics but;

>7 foot power rack with pullup bar & pins
>0-90 adjustable flat bench
>700 lbs iron oly plates, 200-300 in standard weights
>2 p. nice oly bars, couple of curl bars and 2 sets of db handles
>Wrist roller, ab wheel, V-grip handle and homemade lat pulldown w/ loading pin and dip attachment
>Dip belt w/ chain, belts, wrist, knee and elbow wraps of various sizes

All of this has been gathered together over about 10-15 years or so between me and my family; the only real investment was the rack, the bench and the nicer bar.

Rack and bench were on sale when I bought them back around 2007, so I got out from under for both of those for slightly under $400. Spent an additional $80 on the flooring (just gym mats on top of plywood) and it has never failed me since. If you have the space and the money, go for it.
>>
Is it worth paying for more expensive equipment?
Isn't a power rack just a rack?
>>
P. much is just a fancy rack - but it allows you to train alone with limit poundages, safely. And that's not even mentioning heavy partials, my fave.
>>
>>37534313
If you keep it for some years it will have paid for itself compared to subscribing to a gym membership. It's a lot up front, but it's a great investment.

Just found this video, holy shit:

Yeah, I'll pay the extra.

i have a home gym and love it, but i still prefer the gym.
>>
>>37534639
Mind sharing why?
>>
>>37534626
Holy fucking shit. Yeah, pay the extra for a cage.
>>
>>37534626
Yikes. I was thinking about going cheap and just buying a barbell and benching on a makeshift bench while getting my noob gains.
>>
>>37533599
I have one op. It's great. Bench, power cage and bar/weights. Dbs coming later. I can play whatever music I want and never have to wait for anyone ever again. I could even lift naked if I wanted to.
>>
>>37533599

If I had a big enough garage I'd do it in a heartbeat, but I'd end up spending so damn much to replicate all the useful stuff at my actual gym.

Its cheap enough to put together a cage/bench/bar setup. Gets more expensive if you decide you want stuff on top of that.
