Mine's not as bad as the one in the picture, but it's noticeable, even over clothes. Can this be fixed?
>>
>>37520246
not by lifting weights, friend. Ask a doctor or surgeon?

My friend has that. We drink cocktails out of it sometimes

thru painful surgery yes

I'm aware. However that's not really an option for me. I meant through lifting only? At the very least cover it up somehow?

Completely fix it?
Surgery.
Improve it?
Stretching.

I had it, got the surgery, and have lifted a fair amount. I definitely feel way better, not sure how much better I look. Can post pics if you want.

Here's some I just took now.
I have a very critical eye, so I see all the flaws on myself. My right side is about 3/4 of an inch below my left, as the surgery wasn't totally successful. However, I was down below 50% lung capacity when they decided to intervene, so I count it as a win.

>>37520246
I went to school with 2 people who had this amd both of them improved it hugely by lifting and putting on mass.
>>
>>37520246
Lifting will not fix it. You need surgery unfortunately. Yes it's fucking painful and sucks. Good luck. I was there too, but now I lift just fine.

You should be able to lift just fine afterwards, but if your procedure is anything like mine you're going to need at least a year of recovery after they take the bar out (so after the second surgery).
>>
As others have said, lifting won't fix it, perhaps minimally help.
Surgery isn't as painful as people here make it out to be, morphine will take the worst.

After looking at this, and seeing how my chest has somewhat formed after nearly a year 4 months of moderate lifting, I think there's a noticeable hollow to my chest.

What kind of doctor would be best to help determine if there's anything to be concerned about?

Pic for reference.

As someone that had the surgery 2 weeks ago I have 2 question to someone who already had surgery as well.
Is it painful to bench press after 2 months of recovering more or less? Also does it make it harder to progress than a normal person?

I think I have it, although minorly. I don't have any trouble breathing like OP so my doctor said not to worry about it. I think for anyone who has a minor case like me, lifting will help. Mine seems to have improved a little over the past couple years (which is when I started getting into lifting) but I have like no chest, which I am working on. Hopefully as I get bigger things will get better.

Speaking of which, can anyone recommend some good chest exercises? No barbell available unfortunately.

I think for anyone who has it

No. But you will look very jacked very quickly if your ribs flare out at the bottom too like mine. I have it bad but it's not that unaesthetic. Worse feature of mine is knock knees, which might be due to laying in bed almost 24/7.

my bottom ribs are flared as fuck but i definitely don't have pectus (doctors checked me for it during insurance check-ups,) what could be the reason for that?
>>
>>37524268
you definitely have mild pectus
>>
>>37524290
i thought so too but multiple docs assured me that that's not the case and that my thoracic spine is just a bit out of whack from bad posture. so suing the assholes and getting surgery is the only option? no non-invasive remedies for milder cases?

Out of curiosity how old were you when you got the operation? Mine is fairly severe, and as far as I know it isnt negatively affecting my lung capacity to an extreme extent, but am still interested in surgery. I heard however that getting older is more difficult, and that there are a lot of complications that can arise

>>
>>37524606
>It's not that big of a deal.
I pretty much hate myself for it. I seriously thought about about taking a hammer to my lower ribs and forcing my insurance to cover surgery that way when I was in HS.

My shithead doctors kept (and keep on) telling me there is nothing seriously wrong with my chest and that I don't have pectus so that I had to pay out of pocket for "unnecessary" surgery.
>>
Can someone provide some proper stretching or breathing techniques to not fix pectus but just make it a bit better?
>>
>>37524504
First surgery (to implant the bar) was when I was 16. I pretty much wasn't allowed to lift while it was in, which was three years, for me. Then they removed it, and I had limitations on my exercise for a few months following. I was approximately 150 pounds at 6'4'' when I started lifting, about 200 now.

I've got it though mine isn't severe. My symptoms are cosmetic rather than medical. If you have medical symptoms from it then I would get the surgery otherwise just learn to live with it as I have. I let it hold me back for too long and now I go swimming regularly in a public pool.

I've also had Nuss procedure. After it it's all good. It's generally done somewhere around 17-18 years old so that they may take out the bars AFTER your bones have become fully developed/hardened which is around 20/22 years old. That's the main problem with doing this operation at older age - bones are already maximally dense and are harder to reshape thus the effect might be worse and so is the pain.

That particular image actually belongs to Oliver Richters.

He started bodybuilding afterwards, and Mui Thai kickboxing and BJJ.

He's also 7'2". Not a typo. Seven foot and two fucking inches.

This issue is 100% correctable.

It will take some will to push yourself after surgery and active recovery. Painful as fuck, but worth it.

Lifting during recovery (start LIGHT!!!!) will help bone and cartilage recover better, increased cell turnover, bones in general become stronger etc..

The end result it greatly improved.

Here are some of Olivier now.

I have it, and here is some advice.

Yoga. Yoga alleviated my bowl by almost an inch.

When weight lifting, your back is your main focus. Chest and shoulders help too, but whenever you can, build up your back. It'll help against the posture deforming caused by the bowl.

The ribs are some of the easiest muscles in the body to manipulate. The bottom ribs stick out with pectus excavatum, so this is an exercise I used to help alleviate it even more: Inhale as deeply as possible, and as you exhale, exhale throught your mouth with your lips closed as much as possible, basically creating a tiny hole in your mouth for air to escape.

When doing this, watch your chest. You'll see the chest bowl move up as it puts pressure on the ribs to force air out through the tiny hole in your mouth. Do this for a while, sitting or laying down. pay attention to yourself, and make sure you don't pass out from lack of oxygen, because you can exhale for a long time while doing this.

While doing this, put pressure on your bottom ribs, as they stick out to make up for the lack of space created by the chest bowl.

I managed to make my lower ribs aligned with the rest of my ribs after doing this for a while.

>motorboating enhancement package
looks fine to me, that gyno thou...
>>
>>37532497

That is only if you have it mild.

If it is severe, or really bothers you, then you should go get the NUSS surgery. They put in a curved bar or two, break your ribs back outward. The bars stay in and are screwed to the bone for a couple years. Bones heal. Cartilage heals. Nuss bars get removed far easier than when they went in.
>>
>>37520246
>will training my muscles fix deformities of my skeleton
no
>>
>>37532621

Agreed. Rib cage sunken in requires surgery to fix. Good news is the modern surgery for it is minimally invasive, very effective, and has good results.

Bad news is the recovery from surgery hurts like a fucker.

More good news is you get a valid prescription for Awesome painkillers.
>>
>>37521952
>>37521958

What the fuck. I have literally never seen anyone with this. Are you guys aliens? Deformed Indian babbies? Do you not have ribcages and lungs, like what the fuck.

>>37532612
When they were removing the bar from me they fucked up and cut into some part of my lungs. When I woke up I was in the worst pain of my life. It even with the morphine it was way worse than the actual surgery.
Shit sucked
>>
>>37532668
I had a completely normal rib-cage until I started having symptoms of asthma at 5. The resulting tightness in your chest forces you to breathe primarily with your diaphragm, which causes your pec muscles to weaken and the ribs to get sucked in and out toward the bottom. Being prohibited to do any physical activity/sport by my doctors instead of being sent to physio was a major factor though.

I don't know if the 1 in 100-300 number is just for people who were born with it or for people who also got it during childhood (before the cartilage gets a lot more solid.) I'm guessing the former, since there are a lot more people than 1% who have it by my guesstimate.

>>37520392
stretching will change nothing

>>37520246
lifting helps with it's appearance, mine has been reduced by a couple of mm since starting lifting and swimming. best benefit has been the reduction in rib flaring, much less severe now

it'll also help you care less. i actually kind of like mine now, makes me unique and girls always tease me for it
