arched bench is not a real bench

I've seen too many faggots on here who do only arched bench

You're cheating yourselves , arched bench is much easier than normal bench, power lifting comps shouldn't even allow it.

arched bench favors manlet betas with manlet leverages putting them at an advantage over more properly sized individuals. If no arching was required, almost all of the top powerlifter manlet fucks would be left behind in the dust since they aren't allowed to cheat anymore.

I never thought I'd actually have use for this shit.
>>
This is why i don't believe powerlifting has too much of a future.
All that equipment (even in "raw"), sumo deads, ridiculous arches in bench...
It doesnt make it relatable for normies, they just see a fat man doing as much as he can to move the bar as little as he can.
Instead of 300kg bench press where the ROM is 2cm make it a full bench with 200 and you'll see people actually believing you are strong.
>>
>>37504769

Never seen anything as stupid as in OP's post in strongman.
>>
>>37504782
What do you propose instead? Strongman, wherein they use even more equipment, cheat on ROM even more and do a ton of steroids to the point where it's impossible to enter ever unless you're 6'4, 315 pounds minimum and have access to an entire pharmacy?

Or do you suggest weightlifting, wherein they in fact allow exactly the same amount of equipment as classic powerlifting, where the crux of the sport actually is to shorten ROM and you still have loads of acceptable deviations in form (do you split jerk? squat jerk? power jerk?), nevermind the fact that to be one of the best, you pretty much have to be hand-selected by a communist government and receive copious amounts of world class coaching and roids from the age of 12 at LATEST.

Also, the IPF is growing enormously, maybe not so much in America, but elsewhere it is gaining hundreds of new athletes every year.
>>
>>37504820
What about make rules that arent a joke?
No fucking ridiculous arches, only conventional deads, no knee sleeves, no wrist wraps.
IPF is stupidly obsessed with depth on the squat and making the bench almost a paused bench, why not make benches faster and remove the arches?

>>
Enjoy your shoulder impingement, OP.
>>
>>37504843
>no knee sleeves, no wrist wraps.
Why not? These are just comfort things and don't add poundage (when proper sized, which there are in fact rules to ensure) and you really can't come here and want for "more accurate" tests of strength and then advocate squatting above parallel and bounce-benching, get out of here.
>>
>>37504789

You haven't been paying attention. That's the name of the game in strongman - the weight goes up by whatever means necessary.

Strongman is also the sport that - despite barely having any rules - had to specifically add in a rule saying you couldn't rest the log or axle on your head during a lift. Because, yes, people were trying just that for the advantage.

If a plane can go trough the arch it shouldnt be acceptable. The arch needed to avoid injuries is minimal compared to the ones you defend.
If the IPF has made rules for litterally anything else for every single lift i am sure they'll manage to figure out a way to fix it.
Somehow pic related is cheating but the first webm isnt. Top kek.
>>
>>37502464
>arched bench
Just do decline seriously less bad for your back
>>
>>37504891

The pic you're using was never cheating. What got the press removed from competition wasn't the back bend (which had been in more or less constant use since the 20s) but the development of a double-bend technique that, while legal, made it almost impossible to tell the difference between a legal oly press and an illegal push press.
>>
>>37504870
>Don't add poundage
tip top kek
I like that the IPF is obsessed with depth, i dont like that they make the bench paused because they cant get good enough judges to make it go up when its "motionless" instead of a couple of seconds later.
I find it stupid that they make this so important when they allow other shit (like arches) at the same time
>>
>>37504903
What on earth is a double-bend technique? I cannot for the life of me imagine someone bending their back twice
>>
>>37504912
They don't really add poundage though. I can squat the same with and without sleeves, I just wear sleeves when training mainly, because it helps keep your knee lubricated.
>>
>>37502464
Enjoy your fucked up shoulder joints, fag.
>>
>>37504952
Ive never seen anyone take less than 15 mins to get a pair of knee sleeves on, sure they arent tight as shit or anything.
If they dont add poundage just remove them.
>>
>>37504986
Why though? It's an easy way to prevent injury without actually changing the mechanics and making your stronger.

And people actually were buying crazy tight sleeves, so tight that you needed like 3 people to get them on, but that's illegal now.
>>
>>37502464
If that was true then the bench wr holder would be a tiny manlet. He's not.
>>
>>37504937

You bend back in the start position, straighten up rapidly to get the bar started and then lean back again for better leverage as you press out the rest of the lift. It looks kind of similar to a push press without knee bend and was close enough to it to let people sneak push presses past the judges.

Here's a classic example:

>>
>>37504706
No we don't. Except obviously you care because you bothered to get mad about it.
>>
That posture and that ridiculously small motion range is fucking ridiculous.
>>
>>37504895
Arching isn't bad for your back though.
>>
>>37505128

And an example of the push press bit, the very next lift in that competition:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7erVblY7aiU
>>
>>37504895
There are only compression forces on your spine when arching, since your spine is made to handle those its not bad at all.
>>
I agree OP. Powerlifting should find a way of limiting excessive meme arching, or enforce a minimum for ROM
>>
>>37504854
Elegant in its simplicity.
>>
>>37502464
Nobody does Arched back benches in their routines though. They are shit for training, but they let you lift more if you're doing some competitions.
>>
>>37505325

Most high-arch benchers do train that way. Not all the time, because of the issues with trying to do a lot of volume with that form, but a significant amount of training goes into the form. Displaying strength is, itself, a skill that needs to be honed.
>>
>>37505251
Write me a rule that would accomplish this. No yard-sticks or laser measuring tools allowed.
>>
My jaw dropped what the actual fuck?

Mr. Jeff Cavaliere explained that a little arching helps your back be stable on the bench and puts your pecs into better position to hit them while doing bench presses.

I believe mr. Athlean x, he's science guy of fitness.
>>
>>37505509
Why no measuring tools?
>>
>>37506086

Because they're basically impossible to use in an actual real-life setting. You're not going to have some poor bastard hold anywhere up to 600lbs at lockout for thirty seconds while people fumble around with getting the tape in position.

You can't use laser measuring that well because the side spotters are going to be in the way most of the time.
>>
>>37502464
Fuck off Rasputin this isn't the same as sumo squat!
>>
>>37502551
Having a slight arch is good form. It saves your shoulders and puts the weight in your chest.

>>37508236
You start by placing your feet wide on the ground - you want a stable connection to the ground. Your neck should be under the bar, your butt should be on the bench.

Next you grab the bar and, without moving your ass, slide your shoulder blades down, untill your eyes are under the bar.
Adjust your grip on the bar, tighten your back, as if trying to grab your spine with your shoulder blades.
Your triceps should touch your lats on the descent.

>>37508236
Work towards higher weights when arching, but no maxes to avoid injuries. You just need to get that right spot for you, there is no recipe. If you look at powerlifting, everyone has a bit different foot placement, preparation etc.

For me it took quite a long time and I thought it just wasn't suited for me. Right now I do it like this - I roll back on the bench untill my head is fully behind the edge, and the edge of the bench is around lower neck. I place my legs with knees bent at 90 degrees angle freely on the floor, not too wide, no too close. Then, without moving the legs, I push myself back onto a proper position using the bar, as far as you can go. Note - I don't keep my heels on the ground. Some federations require that, but I don't compete so whatever. I always get terrible cramps in my quads when I try to keep heels on the ground.

You just need to find that one spot where your whole body is EVENLY (important) tight as fuck, ass on the bench for stability, scapulas together, and go.
