why does literally everyone i try to teach to deadlift not even have the flexibility to get into a decent starting position

it's not that extreme of a position.

then i'm like "ok do these stretches" and they never do

damnit
>>
>>37502382
Yeah I get you. Both my brother and girlfriend wanted me to teach them how to deadlift and I eventually just ask them to stop because they're both inflexible and unable to not round their lower back
>>

How about those stretches tho, bro?

Day 4 without lifting

My schedule switched and now I'll be driving all over sd mn ia and ne for the next 3 weeks working more 12 hour shift plant startups.

In more towns without gyms, let alone enough time to actually lift. I still don't get to bring my on meals either, and don't get to choose where we eat lmao

Wew lads. I do love watching my arms and legs shrink by the day while watching my fat tire get worse
>>
>>37502382
Is static stretching enough to increase mobility for deadlift?
Or is it better to get a foam roller and do active stretching instead/as well?
>>
>>37502395

>unable to not round their lower back

Kelly Starrett says that this is hamstring mobility issues. Personally, I've seen people follow Rip's method to the T, after showing them how to tell if their lumbar is tight, squeezing their chest up hard, but their lumbar still rounds before they even pull.

>>
>>37502434
Bodyweight fitness? I usually do it while I'm away from a gym.

It's not even close to what you'd get from a barbell, but it's something.

>>37502459
Yeah that's what I had. Eventually they'd get into the starting position but as soon as they pull (jerk) they lose all form of tightness. I actually have no clue how I learnt by myself without fucking my shit
>>
>>37502395
Yeah exactly. All I want to do is teach my gym buddies how to deadlift and I've been asked to several times but I run into this issue literally every single time. I don't know how people like Rip seem to have success teaching complete newbies to the gym how to deadlift.

>>37502459
Yeah that's what I try too. If you can get their lumbar flat at any point even with the weight resting on the ground you're doing better than I've been able to... Sometimes they get close but like you say it disappears right away

You faggots should at least read SS before trying to coach people on how to deadlift.

Only Hawkings-mode don't have enough flexibility to deadlift. It's a position that doesn't require ANY of the muscles to be too stretched.
The issues the people are having is fixable by having a good coach who knows what he's doing.

>>

Tell that to the bodybuilder at my gym who fucked himself up pulling 100kg
>>
>>37502557
I know. It's especially weird bc the guy I was trying to teach today actually has a pretty nice squat to a good depth so I thought he'd be comfortable in that kind of position.

I know for me it took way longer to feel good about my squat form than deadlift, though maybe my deadlift form was atrocious and I just had no idea.

These fuckers are fast, however, so make sure you sneak up on them and give them the smackeroo when they aren't looking or they'll escape for the next couple of days and appear under your feet while your taking a shit

You know Dan had a 300kg+ squat when he was still natty? You don't have to respect drugaroos but at least acknowledge that taking the doses they do probably isn't at all pleasant for them in their day to day life in terms of side effects and they are sacrificing for a sport they love, just like you and Bodorio etc. Like I don't really think they're all 'hurr durr easy gains I'm so jacked' when they'd probably actually prefer to be off.
>>
>>37504590
It was was like 675 lbs with wraps, guys who are good lifters with roids were likely still reasonable lifters without them.
>>
>>37504590
Steroids at that level must be horrendously unpleasant.

Bleh, that's really a major reason I came off. I'd never want to compete against someone that's willing to run fully a gram of test alone more than me. I have a better shot at being competitive in a tested fed. Also I don't want the deciding factor in win- lose to be who was willing to do more gear
>>
https://www.youtube.com/user/greenanddan99/videos
>>
>>37504626

That depends on the person, to an extent. Some guys are able to run ridiculous dosages with very little in the way of sides, others get into trouble on 250/wk of test.

>>
>>37504626
Yeah, like I'm 90% sure guys like Shaw and Hall would really like to drop 50kg and live normal lives at some point, but they're obviously pushing their strength careers as far as their health can take it. Even memelords like Rich Piana clearly don't enjoy being that big, despite his dysmorphic obsession with size.
>>
>>37504390
Haven't 2 different dudes beat his "records"?
>>
>>37504714

Professional strongmen (most notably big Z, but others as well) are kind of the reverse of most athletes. They tend to shed a fair bit of weight in the offseason precisely because of how much being that size - and using the gear necessary to maintain it - can suck.
>>
>>37504718
Thor is alot smaller when hes not prepping for wsm.
>>
>>37504674
He's natty in the bottom four videos, he started taking gear in Nov '11. Just admit that DG is a cool strong guy Isley.
>>
>>37504626
Do you have any lasting effects from the gear?
>>
>>37504742
he was on like 250mg for a couple of months, he was basically a high test natty.
>>
>>37504718
>>37504723
Yeah, intense. I read some interview about Eddie and he seemed basically desperate to win WSM because the toll on his health is too significant to maintain for much longer.
>>
>>37504742
Apparently none, apart from giving plg ammo to dismiss any and all gains little A will ever make.
>>
>>37504748

And the same shit takes places when setting up for pendlay rows.
>>
>>37505827
Bend over and grab the bar, stick your ass back hard, then pop down into position by simultaneously spreading your knees/opening your hips and pulling your lays hard to keep the bar closer to you. Do not surrender your start position.

Stretch hips

Not hamstrings
>>
>>37502546
its the squat doesn't require significant flexibility - the deadlift needs a degree of hamstring flexibility. you initiate the deadlift in a similar position you would do a hamstring stretch.

>>37502546
You're both fucking stupid

>>37505950

Sumo works just fine, because ... well, I guess it avoids the hamstring issue.
>>
>>37506035
You're stupid. Just fix your issues. Muslie imbalances and inflexibility are the reason people get inured.
>>
>>37506035
Tbh I think the other guy was right about SS, the Rippetoe setup is quick, easy, and worked fine for me and my bros when we started strength training. But I mean if you've switched to sumo, fuck it.
>>
>>37506011
Do I need the band for that upper pic stretch?
>>37506012
I am actually working in a full list of things coming the next weeks:
- glute work
- hamstring work
- core work
- stretches for quads / hips and hamstrings.

I have knee pain in the squat that have no apparent form reason, thus I have to stop for some time and adress muscle imbalances that I have (weak hams and glutes probably the most important ones) as well as awfully tight hips, quads and hamstrings.

Hopefully this will help, I don't know.

I can't do the couch stretch as it's simply too brutal and I can't even get into the proper start position.
Apart from what has already been posted, what would you suggest as stretch for the muscle groups I mentioned?
>>
>>37506044
Yea, I think I finally realized it.
>>37506068
I didn't know muscle imbalances could mean so much.
I still don't believe they can make my knees hurt, but I will see.
>>
>>37506068
Stop. You're targeting too much of the wrong shit.

Just fix your hip mobility and all your issues will be resolved.

Yes, buy a band.

Hip mobility > all
>>
>>37506060
I tried it and even had ripp look at the resulting deadlift sets, he claimed they are "all fine".

Yet I could literally feel that my back wasn't fine at all, not during the set and not after. It was hurting like a bitch and it was also clearly visible why.
>>
>>37506096
I can't even squat mate, I have nothing to do anyways.
I understand that hip is probably the most important one, and I will also use most of my time on it.

But my hamstrings have never been worked properly, nor have my glutes.

And I still need an answer to my occurring knee pain, which I hope is related to tight, surrounding muscles.
A tight hip won't make my knees hurt for no reason.
>>
I've been squatting for 1-2 years and the tendon on the outside of my left leg just behind my knee pops out when I get to parallel. It hasn't caused me any issues/

Anyone have this?
>>
love working out in an empty gym

>>37506116
See a doctor mate. Try foam rolling as well
>>
>>37506116
Uhg stretching your hamstrings is just going to be counter intuitive. I guarantee you'll fuck it up, especially since you were asking if you need bands.

If you think singing a stretch for 30 seconds will help you then you're wrong.

Just fucking trust me, I've been through this shit already and all stretching hamstrings did was fuck my back over in the long run.

HIPS HIPS HIPS. So fucking important.

Knees a little different
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=fWse1RmISg0

Also do squat, because squatting makes you more mobile at doing the squat.
>>
>>37506136
I don't have any knee pain in every day life though, it's just in the squatting motion pattern.
I got an MRI once and "nothing was abnormal".
But that doesn't help me, sadly.
>>
>>37506153
Alright, alright.

What about quads though? And what is the shit that you have been through, what were you dealing with and did you fix it entirely?
>>
>>37506170
Going through a buldging/ herniated disc in my lumbar spine
Fixed it purely with these 3 things >>37506011

Before I would stretch hamstrings and my mobility increased. TEMPORARILY. I kept doing it in the hopes it will get better. My hamstrings became sore and tight and locked up my lower back and surrounding musculature.

I kept trying and eventually everything slipped and fucked up because it was too tight.

There was no issue with my hamstrings turns out, it was all my hips.

I've still got the fucked dsic but squat, bench and deadlift pain free from those 3 rehab movements alone.
>>
>>37506154
Deload and work on form? Not memeing here. If your knee hurts while squatting then either fix your issue or stop squatting.

I see, I see. Well, I guess I will go all out on hips and hamstring stretches out for the moment.
But I will strengthen them as well as my glutes, because I believe they are lacking.
>>37506203
They hurt at one pl8, heck they even start feeling bad at body weight squats.

My form was / is fine, my knees track toes, I don't have excessive knee travel and I don't have the weight on my toes.
I had numerous form checks on here and none ever saw anything.

I had one seession where I was really strong and absolutely pain free when I narrowed my stance and angled my feet less.
But then the next week the same set up randomly began feeling like shit again.

I wouldn't know what more to pay attention to regarding my knees than the things I mentioned above.
>>
>>37503913

I'm currently at 130 kg/286 lb for 3x6 on squat.
