Hey /fit/ I need some help. My dad is morbidly obese, about 6'1" and probably around 370 lbs, approaching 50 years old. He is super self conscious about his weight and has really bad pain in his back and knees. His diet is shit, lots of starches and carbs, literally no vegetables besides legumes and corn. His family had a history of heart disease.
How do I get him to give a shit, and what can I do to help him. A few of my friends around my age have lost parents recently, and that's terrifying to me. I just need help.
Bumping for halp
You could suggest doing an activity that would be fun for both of you that gets him at least moving away from the couch. For his diet, just talk to him about it and let him know that you'll help if he needs it. Just know that you ultimately can't force him to do anything
Bring him to a doctor
Make a whole list of stuff that will happen to him if he does not do excerice and go with him in gym or cardio outside
Show him that incredible shrinking man video. Once he sees that someone who is heavier then himself can do it, then hopefully it makes something click that starts a lifestyle change.

What kind of cardio is gentle on joints? I'm new-ish to fitness (about a year of taking it somewhat seriously) and I just get my cardio fix from running

Swimming. But you have keep moving non-stop.

For now, just get him to eat less until he's at a safer size for cardio.
Or hire a PT who specialises in obese people.

If you want him to give a shit tell him
>"I really want my future kids to see their grandfather and i'm afraid they won't get to have one if you don't start taking better care of yourself"
It will make him feel turrible, but it just may work.
